I found a review of this song in a 1962 issue of Billboard! It was rated as FOUR STARS, with "Strong Sales Potential". This was released on Choice 24, with the b-side "You Can't Make Me Doubt Him". Interestingly, Cissy is listed as "Emily Garland", (Now I can see where son Gary got his last name; though by around 1990, he was just known as Gary Houston). Cissy here is the same age here as Bodyguard era Whitney! It sure makes me cry listening to Cissy's later performance at the expense of Whit.
@pannoni1 Cissy was married twice. Her first son Gary had the name of his father, thus Gary Garland. That marriage lasted only 2 yrs before Cissy divorced. She was pregnant with Gary at the time. When Cissy married to John Houston, Gary's name was changed to Gary Garland Houston. Then later to Gary Houston for short when he performed and toured with Whitney as her bg singer. Probably easier to recognize him as her brother for PR and professional sake.
I have always loved and respected this group for their harmonies and drive. We even had them as a guest on our anniversary one year with the Ward Singers and Imperial Gospel singers. perhaps they were not nationally known because of limited travelling (just a wild guess). I used their recording of Rise Shine as my theme song for many years to start my broadcast. I still playig them and the ensemble, I will always honor their contrubution.
Cissy stated in her autobio, that Lee who managed the group stood firm in not allowing the family to travel. It was clear that the greats on the gospel circuit knew about the Drinkards...as they received offers to tour for years...Lee would say flat no unless if was within New York/ Jersey/etc...area.
This is my family, truly love them!! Sad day to hear Whitney my 3rd cousin has passed away....may God bless our family.

@mcworld999 Gary is whitney's half-brother as opposed to Michael Houston, her "full" brother born to Cissy and John Houston.

Cissy can sing anything and make it her own.
