So glad to be back on youtube once again. Did the Manhattan Transfer. Once you see these groovy cats, you will never want to "transfer to another group.
I don't know if I commented on this yet.... I trhink I should have o.o That being said!
...three people missed the like button. And if they didn't, they have no taste in music whatsoever >.> This is just awesome. Purely awesome. And this is coming from a 21 year old who knows a thing or two about good music considering he's heard something from pretty much every musical style.
@realworldgaara, most people my age, 38 barely remember Manhattan Transfer or know of them, unless they are into Jazz. Judging from your channel, a 29 year old with an interest in Graffiti, hardly qualifies you to critique such a group.
Are they still together. I remember them from back in the 80s and I always admired their fire, their voices, and the way they handle the songs so well. A great group who got it going on. Great clip and I am so happy to see they were still together and doing it three years ago.
@ellegeejay19 " i wonder if they are improvising? I bet they could! "
I understand improv varies with them. They rehearse a lot and pay care full attention to the arraingments, but they also push the boundaries. there is some scat in this number that is probably outside the rehearsed arringment
Some of the comments on this video display a spectacular ignorance of the important legacy that MT have brought to the vocal harmony genre. They are the most consistent professional group of the last 30 years, able to deliver fantastic performances in any number of different styles. Before you comment further I suggest you go and examine the evidence in more detail. There are plenty of albums to choose from.
Manhattn Transfer is a vry well-respected jazz vocals group of all time..their core competence as jazz vocalists hv been sustained since d 80s; d only difference now, is they hv aged, but their enabling gift is still as exquisite n as classy as ever. Ive seen their live concerts in 2006, 2001 n 1992 - d performance was deeply penetrating n magnetic.
Hahaha, If this music REALLY annoys you, then how come you sought the video out? They are extremely successful at what they do and lead very affluent lives. It seems your the one that needs a JOBBBBBBB!
Very funny! If you can't hear the bad intonation, I'm not about to play "online music lessons". It's fine. Regardless though, they are singing out of tune. It's not an opinion.
Alright so they got a chord out of tune, and I admit there may have been some other intsances where this may have happened again during the performance, BIG DEAL. They are still and will for ever be the greatest exponents of Acapaella singing, so that beats the small 'intonation' and 'tuning' lapses, wouldn't you admit?
Trisk, no, I'm sorry. You're completely wrong. Manhattan Transfer is not an acapella group. They play with a band. They are a vocal harmony group. In my opinion The New York Voices, Take 6, Lambert-Hendricks-Ross, and many more far surpass them. They just had commercial success in the 80s because they were grouped with the right management team and producers. That's that. They are not gifted vocalists. They happen to have found a niche.
They're an Acapella Group when they don't have a backing band, I have heard them sing without instrumental accompaniment, believe it or not. Ok so they're a 'Vocal Harmony Group" when they have a "backing band" fair enough.
" They just had commercial success in the 80s because they were grouped with the right management team and producers. That's that. They are not gifted vocalists....."
WRONG! Just ask John Hendricks or Annie Ross if they are gifted or not.
Again, you are wrong. They always have a backing band with the exception of one recent Xmas. They always tour with a backing band. I don't have to ask John or Annie. I have my own set of ears. Obviously yours need some tuning.
é de arrepiar...Eu amo Manhattan Transfer...E quando eu nasci eles já estavam arrebentando de sucesso...em 1985.

Almost. The vocal ensemble parts are horribly out of tune.

Out of tune! l'llll give you out of tune, what do you use to tune your instruments, let me guess.
