Agreed. This band was sickly underrated. I would've like to have seen Tears for Fears try to pull off what Talk Talk did with Spirit of Eden and the Mirror Man lp
What a great video! May offer you the banding in the picture is an artifact from changing an NTSC or PAL video to a Progressive one. If you still have this video source, you can use a command like "De-Interlace" to get rid of the banding artifact. This video's part of music history! Best Wishes,

Wow! First time I've heard the live version and this footage is in great shape! Such joy. Thanks a million for sharing it!
@unlikeanyotherhuman - they were def ahead of their time. This is the type of music that followed into the 90's so I think it's safe to say, they helped the 90's music scene... Great band live too !!

Sprit of Eden is one of my all time favs. I was just downloading my cd copy of Asides TALK TALK Besides and decided to look at some You tube videos. laughing stock is a listen as well.
i went to youtube and typed "life's what you make it" and fucking Miley Cyrus popped up... need i say more? music has become such a joke that real artists such as TALK TALK take a back seat to the untalented kid of an untalented father .. billy ray cyrus.
I'm 46 years old today. I remember being in complete awe the first time I heard this song. Today, I watched this video and I was flooded with great memories and a reminder of how absolutely fantastick this band was. I'm so happy they were a part of my youth, and so sad this band isnt creating more incomparable music. What a voice!!...such a unique tone!! Somebody out there, please create music as good as this!!!
I think they are all still alive - It's up to them, but I think they still have so many Fans untill now. Mark Hollies - go on and call the boy's for more good music !
And look at all that covers around here on youtube
I think the thing with Talk Talk is that they were an art band that the record company desperately wanted to market as a pop band-and Mark's obvious distaste for videos of the time shows in almost every setting-except live. Then its amazing. I wish we still had people around who wrote songs like this-Mark Hollis, Come back and Save US!
@kingscoop Thanks alot and thanks for posting. I've actually bought loads of their stuff over the years but mostly locally, wouldn't know how to buy this and don't order off the net much. Cheers
An Extraordinary band in 86` but the next 4 years saw them move to another level on which none of their contemporaries could even see let alone follow. Comercially they hung themselves, spiritually and emotionally they were a revelation to the few who kept the faith.
What a fantastic comment! They certainly did go on to scale new heights and 'Spirit of Eden' is without doubt one of THE most amazing albums ever made. All these years later there is little out there that can even come close to it. Thanks for commenting and take care, Tim
@kingscoop Has their ever been any outtakes circulated from Sprit Of Eden (he asks, drooling in anticipation) ? The only associated extras I have is the 12" I Believe In You.
I can't agree with you more! Color of spring was the start of something special...but Spirit of eden was nothing short of a musical miracle, beautiful melodies and some of the most emotive vocals I've ever heard.
@splicer45 I thought their first two albums were already very special but then I'm a synths fanatic. But to each their own, I agree Colour Of Spring is a wonderful album, and I would also perhaps agree Spirit Of Eden the most stunning of all five albums. Cheers
@chrisk61 it's truly amazing to listen to their evolution/re-invention. Much more of a radical departure than Radiohead, for example. Almost like a game to see how much of the music can be removed without it collapsing. Minimalist genius.
@chrisk61 Truly amazing band i was priviledged to see them in 84 whilst living in Germany and met the band after the gig--still THE best band ever to have graced us with their brilliance
.....and just another enlightement for your: If you ask a person knowing about the nature of "music" and the physics of "sounds", they will frankly tell you that all "sound"-waves ARE actually NOISE from a physicist´s scientific point of view, ha ha....! i always find here that people with "closed channels" seem to have the one or the other problem whatsoever....but could they please keep it to themselves??
as u don´t have an open channel i cannot judge what u understand by "difference" bewteen music and noise. and i don´t listen all day long to talk talk & if u visit my channel you´ll see i have very different things inside.but it is silly to hint at rumours from the 80s (i don´t even know if they´re true..)that mark was a part-time heroin-addict.that is nobody´s business as long as he makes fantastic music.many people find talktalk in certain situations VERY uplifting...
@72acquarius:..and cheerful.especially the atmospheres in Spain are really impressing, but of course the huge square in Salamanca was only filled with drugged people...nonsense! and even it were true that mark had been an addict, that´s his own business!i rather prefer such people making music on stage than attacking me on the street for money. & their lyrics& songs are very positive and in no way depressive.could it be that u have ears & eyes wide shut?
@MrSKINFLICK Actually I find some of their music depressing and some uplifting. And lots of it both at the same time!! That's because they produced music with great emotional depth. I'm not knocking lighter pop or rock music, I like quite a lot of that too, but I think Talk Talk stand out because not all music groups touch on emotions as deep as they did, notwithstandng that we are all different and moved by different things. Cheers
Brings back Great memories of Radio Caroline at sea, when they pioneered this amazing band. Led by the brilliant Mark Hollis. For Gods sake reform soon guys and bring us some more Great music ,instead of the crap nowadays....
oh my god! how can I have forgotten a mastepiece like this? I don't know why but this afternoon Talk Talk are back on my mind and what a pleasure to re-discover one of the gratest bands of all the time! thanx for posting this gem!
Fabulous band, the best thing to come out of the '80s. Shame this recording doesn't do them credit. The 1986 Talk Talk live at Montreux dvd is great - both the band and the audience having a great time! :>)
Man, there isn´t a single thing these guys did that sucked, everything you listen from them is excellent, classy and memorable. Great great band, that is more than you can say from a lot of garbage we listen to these days...
They hopefully will not consider any re-union projects. The fact that they split in the early 90s made them a myth. That's the kind of band I adore...
@75Adrock I, too, would hate them to do a reunion tour, and they would never just do that anyway, but I would't say no to a regrouping to produce another studio album.
@chrisnoaro1 Since their music is just great and timeless, I agree with you. It's a shame anyway that a genius musician such as Mark Hollis completely disappeared from the scene...
I saw this band support Genesis in about 1982 in Milton Keynes bowl. Just as in this video they played a perfect set but were not accepted by a rock audience. They were booed and bottled off stage. I would like to think that it wouldn't happen these days. The band must have thought the audience were a bunch of ignorant tossers and I have to agree
@strawhouse65 That's quite sad. Although my greatest love is the punk and new wave era I recently got into a lot of Genesis's back catalogue and there is some beautiful keyboard work in there. It's sad that the dumb audience couldn't appreciate some of the wonderful keyboard sounds emanating from Talk Talk in 1982. Remembr though that a small few may have but they would have been in the minority. Cheers
just love the moody electrical guitar. To me, songs like this make me reflect on so many things - life, love everything - just in the tune of it. Uplifting and trance like.
Every decade seems to give birth to it's own unique "sound." Talk Talk is one of the groups that nailed down the "sound" of the 1980's. It was a fantastic era for music.
Definately an album that shaped me - as the rest of their albums did.
I just wish Mark Hollis would find a great reason to break the silence soon - I miss the voice, the tapestries of music... and simply the beauty of his voice & music.
muchos gracias!...its just a dream for me to find this video..'my dream come true'...i was at that time 14, was in Salamanca and saw Talk Talk's concert,That was on Sept 10,1986,during the 26th broadcastting chain festival or the Festival de Radio Cadena Espanola that was held in Plaza Mayor de Salamanca.....thanks a whole whole lot Kingscoop...muaaahhhhh!
I saw Talk Talk in, or about 1984 at the Greek theater and they opened for Berlin. I can honestly say that they were the best sounding band that I've ever heard and they blew Berlin away! Does anyone know of any thing recent that they've done, and where it can be found? Man they have such a great sound!!!!!
TALK TALK were on Sky Arts the other night. I was an old fan in the 1980'. I am back on board again after watching their live performance. Iv'e never heard anything like it.
And: Radiohead?? What the hell have they got to do with this music? Dont always compare them. Talk Talk were/are independent. And nobody on this planet has a voice like Mark. And thats one of the reasons for me to listen to them.
@RRGG463 Yes, I also disagree when people who say an older band paved the way for some modern band, as if that's all they were good for! And as if music is some timeline or progression of styles that are being developed and getting better and better which it mostly clearly isn't!! I love Radiohead AND Talk Talk (personally I think Talk Talk are better) but they are different bands and such comments seem to devalue the music of both artists for me
@Tjellevejrup Great decision! Their fist album is very different in musical style to their last, but I feel confident that if you give them time, you will grow to love hem all.

Definately an album that shaped me - as the rest of their albums did.
I just wish Mark Hollis would find a great reason to break the silence soon - I miss the voice, the tapestries of music... and simply the beauty of his voice & music.

The percussions are awsome in this live performance ... even better than the studio recording !
bretmaverick 3 years ago 4
is this David Rhodes on guitar? I thought it could be him, beacuse he always holds his guitar quite low.
elefou 3 years ago
they are the best in live performing and the best the 80th had to offer to us...i grew up with theire music..nice and beauty voice marc has too
kaddourM 3 years ago 3
GREAT!!!!
And: Radiohead?? What the hell have they got to do with this music? Dont always compare them. Talk Talk were/are independent. And nobody on this planet has a voice like Mark. And thats one of the reasons for me to listen to them.
RRGG463 3 years ago 4
@RRGG463 Yes, I also disagree when people who say an older band paved the way for some modern band, as if that's all they were good for! And as if music is some timeline or progression of styles that are being developed and getting better and better which it mostly clearly isn't!! I love Radiohead AND Talk Talk (personally I think Talk Talk are better) but they are different bands and such comments seem to devalue the music of both artists for me
chrisnoaro1 1 year ago
Amazing.. I'm gonna go by their albums :)
Tjellevejrup 3 years ago 3
well hope u have one of the best bands to pave way for radiohead
jasonspurs 3 years ago
@Tjellevejrup Great decision! Their fist album is very different in musical style to their last, but I feel confident that if you give them time, you will grow to love hem all.
