I love PNG! I spent a month doing service work in various towns/schools around Port Moresby. The only place I have been to where Christians bomb Mosques. The faith and generosity of the people I met during my short time there made me feel ashamed for my country (U.S.A.). I would love to go back and visit the Highlands and the Irian Jaya border (genocide and atrocities still there) next time. I hope it is my calling. One could get "lost" in places where the people except you as their own.

@glitchable Christians were entirely responsible for bringing 'civilization' to Papua New Guinea. Had they not been introduced to Western civilization, they wouldn't have guns or even know they existed.
The Christian missionaries who have come to the place since its discovery (and still do to this day) by the Western world, probably meant well. But their intentions don't matter because irreversible damage has been done and the place is now as ruined as everywhere else.

@HDNighster1 Yes, I'd recommend you visit there. The reasons for why I think Papua New Guinea has been damaged shouldn't necessarily stop one from going to visit. If anything, the crime in most of the towns should be the only thing deterring travelers. However, if you've done research and are cognizant of the potential dangers and think you can manage, then enjoy your trip.

I love PNG! I spent a month doing service work in various towns/schools around Port Moresby. The only place I have been to where Christians bomb Mosques. The faith and generosity of the people I met during my short time there made me feel ashamed for my country (U.S.A.). I would love to go back and visit the Highlands and the Irian Jaya border (genocide and atrocities still there) next time. I hope it is my calling. One could get "lost" in places where the people except you as their own.

Some of the poorest areas in Detroit don't compare to what I have seen in PNG and other countries. "Run from your problems" sounds like something your parents say to you a lot. We criticize the things we want to change about ourselves while criticizing others. When you get older maybe you will understand suffering and volunteering. Get out and see yourself.

The problem was that the PNG's own police/goverment were corrupt and the weapons fell into the wrong hands.
