  • its funny to compare this to a british made movie like waterloo (1970) where the enemies (french) are shown as fierce and dignified, with the british showing humility in victory. Then you get an american movie depicting british as mindless, brutal, evil and unstoppable (when in fact they were inexperienced, poorly equipped, hungry, outnumbered and made up of mercenaries, kids and criminals). Interesting the way enemies are portrayed differently in hollywood

  • ASSASSINS CREED 3 !!!!

  • with a tow row row row row row row............

  • .55 seconds in - Jeff Daniels! :)

  • @ .55 seconds in - Jeff Daniels I swear to god! lol

  • wait why did they fight like that? who takes turns shooting at each other like that? is that really how it was

  • @eestivanquisher Well the all taking turns etc is a bit romantic, but they really lined up like. They even did it in the ACW.

  • @eestivanquisher

Due to inaccuracy of Muskets, unfortuantely you had to fight war like that.

  • Hey guys who's arguing if the movie is inacurate or acurate did you for get this is damn what's it called ......Oh yea A MOVIE!...dumbasses

  • One british person disliked this video

  • Unlucky for the front ranks. They just stand there and get shot.

  • @Vittorio01 Thats why Scottish highland regiments actually went prone, then rose and just charged with broad sword...

  • There is something gloriously terrible at how wars were fought at this time. Where pagentry and brute slaughter meet.

  • @weirditity

I would've hated this type of war. All you had was a shitty jacket to defend you...

I miss the old days of Rome, when you had to actually fight not just shoot a gun...

  • @RyanBrooksby This type of warfare more often than not ended up turning into melee combat when troops were close enough, especially with skirmishers

  • @aspiringdrummer17

Yes but walking in a line and being shot is stupid as fuck until the two armies meet.

  • @RyanBrooksby Muskets were so inaccurate that it was the only way of making them effective. Most of the tactics used back then seem ridiculous by todays standards

  • @aspiringdrummer17

Hmm. Well I'm glad they stopped doing that kind of shit at the Somme.

Now we have even more ways of killing ourselves.

  • @RyanBrooksby but then your able to give them the old cold steel, they don't like it up em sir!

  • There is more idiocy in The Patriot than the next 10 movies on the subject combined.

  • Wait.. they are going to shoot us!!!!!

Keep staying in a line and look forward damn it!!!!! ( .k.. go it..)

  • is a musket rifle very hard to reload or does it have a bad accuarcy?

  • @Wolfboy2012 They werent hard to reload. British troops could fire 3/4 (sometimes 5) rounds a minute, whereas most other armies fired 2 maybe 3. The brits however were the only army to train with live ammunition, so they were actually used to doing it for real. And in answer to your second question, yes they were ridiculously inaccurate, which is why they were fired in volleys and why rifles started being used in the 1800s (but only for skirmishers and in small numbers)

  • @DermotX22 that's why rifles like the masuer and assualt rifles like the ak 47 were invented

  • @DermotX22 I can fire 4. But we usually charge at a jog then a full run with those pointy things stuck on the end of the musket, never shoulder to shoulder, always 2 ranks. See With Zeal and With Bayonets Only, Matt Spring.

  • got to hand it to the British. Despite we fought against them back then, they were fuckin badass.

  • France is very proud to have fought at your sides gentlemen. Especially against the Birtish ! :D

  • i don't know the flute in this battle. it's very great.

  • ughh his head got torn off

  • some talk of Alexander and some of hercules, of hector and lysander and such great names as these but of all the world's great heroes, there's none that can compare with a tow row row row row to the british grenadiers.

  • The British were actually heavily ontnumbered in this battle. A lethal combination of undiciplined troops, lack of communtication between officers, and General Gates' cowardice led to the Continental defeat.

  • I guess Washington was right about Gates all along

  • @montereypopfestiva67 Gates was an incompetent fuck he never deserved to be placed in command of any army. Charles Lee and Nathaniel Greene were far superior to the arrogant and slow general gates.

  • @zyzor Lee got screwed hard. Monmouth was a mess from the start, and Lee unfairly took all the blame from it. I believe the war would have been won in early 1780 had he not been court martialed and instead been given command of the Southern theatre. The only reason Gates was given so much and spared court martail was because he had high political connections in Congress. He never deserved command. He stole all of Saratogas credit, which would not have been won if not for Arnold.

  • @montereypopfestiva67 yeah I agree just like they say in this film Gates was a damned fool and exceedingly arrogant. he despised washington more than Lee and attempted to sabotage Washington's command.

  • @zyzor Gates, the "Hero of Saratoga" managed to flee something like 180 mile in 3 days after the disaster of Camden. Among the real heroes of Saratoga was Benedict Arnod.

  • @AWIGrenadier gates in a modern comparison is like the prima dona who wants everyone to notice him and will not only try to place himself in front of others to get recognition but will also talk shit behind their backs and try to start drama in order to advance himself. He was a very poor officer and was guided by his ego much like benedict arnold but at least arnold was brave.

  • British general with strange laugh is Brigadier General Charles O'hara.

  • where I can find this version of the british grenadiers?

  • @Nearkillkira no where except the movie otherwise type in british grenadiers and you will find drum and fife medley from Barry Lyndon score.

  • @Nearkillkira We play it about once a week. redcoat.org

  • The revolutionary war really showed how underdogs ad untrained armies can whoop ass when they have enough cause to.

Question arising: WHY HAVE WE NOT HAD ANOTHER REVOLUTIONARY WAR AGAINST OUR TOO CONTROLLING GOVERNMENT?! LET'S GET OUR ASSES OUT THERE AND DO IT GUYS.

  • @OurSoundMultiplies lol,.. This was a movie. If you think or fantasy that the revolutionary war was won by untrained armys or militia like in this mess of a Mel Gibson movie you are twat.

  • @fluffy1931 alot of the american colonial army was just drunks and armed citizens though. aside from that though, i dont think the guy your responding to has that great of a theory either, seeing as most of the people who hate our government that much are against guns

  • @fluffy1931 Uh, hello? Go read a book.

  • @OurSoundMultiplies ,...go fall off a cliff.

  • 2:06 HOLY SHIT

  • Can you imagine if the Briitsh Army was actually Red Team and the American Continental Army from Blue Team? Reminds me of Team Fortress 2, always have the red beat the blue team lol. When someone launch a cannocball, it must be demoman lol XD.

  • the muskets of the time were horribly inaccurate so the strategy at the time was to amass your troops in rank and file and fire volleys at close range within 200 yards or less of the enemy and hope that the concentrated fire would decimate the enemy ranks. Battle back then were mostly won by numbers, but also the discipline of the troops to obey commands under fire. The british at the time won many battles while outnumbered because of this discipline they were the finest force of the time.

  • @zyzor Very true. Quebec was captured by the British in a mere 7 minutes, due to 2 very close range musket volleys. The French had been shooting for much of the day, but from a longer range.

  • @zyzor not really. this battle like most of the American revolution was decided by the bayonet, not musket volleys. This movie is extremely innacurate

  • @dmax631

well let's see how inaccurate it is (I'm not being sarcastic)

Church scene. OH PLEASE! GERMANY did this in 1940, England never burned churches. Complete lie.

Mel Gibson's character...never existed in history?

British being somehow untrained than Militia. MILITIA, compared to British who fought at India, France, and many other countries including wars against Russia/Ottoman's as well as Crimean War.

Overall Mel Gibson is a twat who doesn't know facts.

  • Dude, It's a movie.

  • @MadeoOnTheRadeo It is a movie, but isn't it harder to be wrong 100% of the time than at least to guess and get it right half the time?

  • @RyanBrooksby - England never burnt a church? ...pretty sure a few catholics and protestants have died in england, churches and all. Your history has centuries of it.

As for miltia beating a superior enemy...where have you been the last 70 years.

Mel is an actor playing a role, so are you.

  • @weirditity

No but the church, even the very design, is EXACTLY the same found in 1940 when Germany burnt the french church.

I'm saying IN AMERICA, England never burnt a church.

Mel is a shit actor. Last 70 years doesn't count due to Nukes being involved.

  • @RyanBrooksby HOLY SHIT DO I NEED TO TEACH ANOTHER HISTORY LESSON TO YOU AGAIN?!?!?!

  • @ww2guy100

What? What are you talking about?

You're saying Modern weapons are more ineffective than 18th century weapons?

    WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING?

  • @RyanBrooksby cant we all just enjoy the movie

  • @pankace4pros

Not if the Movie is shit.

  • @RyanBrooksby They burned plenty of churches in Ireland

  • @jmcfintona999

    Ireland Ireland Ireland, fucking Ireland.

    I'm talking about America here.

If the orders were to burn Irish churches, I couldn't give a shit.

The Catholic religion is evil. Catholic's tried to assassinate our Leader's.

    They fucking deserved it.

  • @RyanBrooksby Freedom fighters who tried to kill a king, his lords and barons, with their fat knees on the necks of the poor. Any man that tries to claim lordship over another should put up against a wall and shot!

  • @jmcfintona999

WTF are you talking about!? The Catholic's weren't poor, you dumb fool.

They were Imperialists wanting to control the poor.

What you speak of is Elitism.

    Which is a disgusting habit.

  • @RyanBrooksby Well then u putrid vaginal discharge Im sure that during the Queens diamond jubilee you will take the streets waving the Butchers apron with the other moronic butt monkeys

  • @jmcfintona999

You are saying every man should be Equal, in all rights, and name.

Now tell me, wasn't there some world-peace threatening Empire who did that?

Are you REALLY a believer of that shit!? Communism; Really!?

  • @RyanBrooksby Socialism is not communism. All i would say is of common sense, this is the age of reason and these are rights of men kick off the chains of religion and monarchy.

  • @jmcfintona999

    "chains"?

Oh, what, and let the Masses rule?

    Yeah, because that's smart.

Oh hey, why don't we just hand over Britain to the EDL? And then them to the Masses, who will just make it an anarchy?

All forms of what you're saying devolve, degenerate, degrade, whatever you may call it, into Corrupt Dictatorships.

Monarchies have done better than anyone.

I don't see the USA helping the Commonwealth - over 1.2 billion people?

  • @RyanBrooksby Free the people let them have their say. Some Monarchies are still doing quite well. One cashes a dole cheque for a few million every year, another picks his girlfriend now his wife up in a Chinook

  • @jmcfintona999

I'm sorry, but the last time we did that, it turned to an Anarchy in Somalia.

So unless you want people to have legal right to break into your house, there has to be Order.

Stop with your fucking Communist obsession. "Right of the masses" = Communism.

  • @RyanBrooksby Its called the British Common weakth for a reason u owe them for the years of rape robbery and murder

  • @jmcfintona999

OH NAME ME ONE NATION ON EARTH WHO NEVER MURDERED.

Woop de fucking do, British murdered people. How else do you get a fucking Empire?

What, there were no Empire's in India? MUGHAL EMPIRE? that "united" India by killing many Indians?

  • @RyanBrooksby India doesn't want or need your money they want that big diamond that was stolen back and Greece says to tell the British museum they want their stuff back too

  • @jmcfintona999

    Rape, robbery, murder.

Hah, yeah. India was squabbling tribes, although Britain didn't know it, they united the Indians.

Besides, if India supports those Terrorist lover Ruskies and their Iranian fuckbuddies, they deserve to be invaded.

"Oh, it's not like Hezbollah ever killed anyone innocent!"

    Pakistan = In the right.

    India = In the wrong.

  • @RyanBrooksby Ah but how do you know that? for all we know America burned churches xD

  • this movie isn't meant to be 100% historical... just historical fiction, Benjamin martin never existed but he is based on several people, and the British DO seem more trained than militia, the only thing that the militia was better at than the British is their shot, and the fact that they know their terrain. Sure the British never burned a church full of civilians but they did slaughter hundreds of surrendering soldiers, did place prisoners in a cold, infected, dirty ship where they died.

  • @RyanBrooksby not to mention that in this particular battle we were grossly outnumbered and out gunned and we still won. here it looks almost equal. bloody gibson, why does he delight in fucking up british history?

  • @albertjester

Well, he's a bad actor. Look at his films, the acting is atrocious.

I think the only man I like in it is Tavington. He looks the best, and he did not -actually- burn a Church.

Mel will probably release a film about how British = Nazis or something.

I mean, that's his style. Insult everyone else.

He doesn't deserve to be called "Scottish" in that dreadful film.

  • @RyanBrooksby dont even mention that hatefull pile of shite. being scottish and pro union would have been hard enough withought that xenophobic crap being shown at every bloody oppertunity to any young impretionable scot who would watch it. know i become a bloody pariah to my own family every time i call my self british.

  • @dmax631 Yep, flat out running bayonet assault, not to mention that Britain's global empire was threatened by most of Europe by the time the war ended. Not to mention war costs lots of money.

  • @dmax631 Yeah, well, saying Mel Gibson movies are historically inaccurate is like saying water is wet. Anybody who really thinks about it know's it's true. These movies are all about the spectacle. The stupid, stupid spectacle.

  • @zyzor plus, most British soldiers were "lifers," as many had signed up for lifetime duty. They were well trained, diciplined, and were used to war situations. Continental soldiers, on the other hand, were mostly young men who had never fought before and signed up for one to three year commitments. They were much less trianed and diciplined, and not used to following orders or being under fire.

  • 1:15 He was once a soldier, then he took a bullet in the knee

  • @RoyalDog214

I am sorry for this comment, I now realize that even if this is a movie I should still show respect to this tragic event. Oh yeah, I am not a gaming asshole lol.

  • "HE SPENT TOO MANY YEARS IN THE BRITISH ARMY" says Mel's character lol! -you mean like Washington who was overlooked for promotion WHILE IN THE BRITISH ARMY and decided he would find another way to get promotion...

  • @Fartsurmonde And what a promotion that turned out to be! Got a pretty cushy post war gig too...on second thought...not so much!

  • @joe579003 -Yes but doesn't it put it all in focus in ordinary human focus as most things in history can be traced right down to the lowest denominator for example:-the "War" of independence caused by a loser who wanted promotion lol

  • My name is Camden

  • ya ya ya, we'll see you at cowpens.

  • @TheImperialistStates See you in 1812 running with your tails between your legs.

  • @MarkramUK Alright, see you in New Orelans ;).

  • @TheImperialistStates Wouldn't you rather go to Washington? I hear they have good firework displays. 24th August, 1814, I heard that was a particularly good night.

  • @MarkramUK Nah, I heard about that tornado that killed all of those redcoats. I'm gonna stay away form there. So i'm going to go to York in Canada and have a parliament burning party there. Thanks for the offer though :).

  • @TheImperialistStates There is a great party going on at Quebec, would you like to come on down, we have roasted general Montgomery for sale. It´s very tasty or would you like to try burned grapeshot.Straight from captured American guns!

  • @TheWellington1014 Nah, come to fort McHenry, we are playing a hard core game of battle ship. Th British were going to come, but they got blown up :(.

  • @TheImperialistStates All the tickets are sold out. There must have been one hell of a party going on :(. shame. But you should go to Brandywine creek.William Howe is having giant party going on, There is a large bonfire with all the captured powder and unwanted arms and shot. Some Americans wanted to come but.....some of the cannons and muskets shot themselves and they all died: (. But come on down, it will be fun.

  • What tune is the British band playing here? I would like to download an mp3 of it

  • @doodle272 i do believe it is the british grenadiers song :)

  • @Weirdo7310 Yep, and one awesome version of it :D

  • @doodle272 march of the grenadiers i think not sure?

  • @doodle272 ITs goes To the tow row row row of the british graniders, great classic.

  • @doodle272 britistch grenadiers tune

  • @101jobs all i see is a bunch of merceneries fighting a dirty war against people who would much rather be left alone and alive than having the 'honour' of getting a bayonet in their chest.

  • The exertion required for the prize to be won was quite obviously greatly in excess of its true value, for sure we would have kept the whole of N. America but we would then have had to have kept the people of the America's; and this was a burden too great even for we British.

  • That reminds me of my cousin laugh.

  • i see now what you said about strange laugh in the end. XD

  • gotta love the "evil" British laugh at the end.

-these rustics... so inept, nearly takes the honour out of victory... nearly

  • Seventeen hundred battles = The world's largest version of Russian roulette..

  • Being soldier, you have no value, especially in wartime... when you die,you are another deleted number.

  • Cornwallis was a very great general, unfortunately he was fighting an impossible war

  • @101jobs yep now its just fucking bullshit with mines and assholes without uniforms btw ( im australian and we lost 3 diggers today by a rogue soldier that WE are training in Afghanistan)

  • @Weirdo7310 So u want to see people die like this.........its like u hate for peopl to live through wars

  • @Weirdo7310

It's ironic, Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger (God rest his soul) are both Australian.

  • I agree with Ledger. There is no honor in throwing so many young lives away. Even Sun Tzu would not like this.

  • in all honestly America wouldnt of got indepence from Britain if it wasnt for the Native americans / french + the british had there army stretched or over the world,

i bet back in them days if you see a redcoat you shit a break.

  • @OGZxH4CKZOR1

    Thats a common misconception.

The colonials wouldve won the revolution but not as fast as they wouldve liked without France.

The indian confederacy of NY if you remember was allied to the British.

Daniel Morgan's men never showed any fear of redcoats, only the morons who were dumb enough to face redcoats in the field where the British army was usually numerically superior had such feelings.

A redcoat wasnt even a high enough target for a rifleman in this age.

  • RULE BRITANNIA!!!!!

  • After firing a musket my self, it takes a long time to reload

  • The biggest inaccuracy in this movie and honestly the only one that I could tell is that the Americans NEVER faced the British on open ground.

  • @gunnernrd94 Saratoga.

  • how long does it take to relod a musket?

  • @Wolfboy2012 from memory i dont actually know exact but i believe the brits could fire 3 shots a minute or something but on youtube ive seen 3 shots done in 30 seconds

  • @Wolfboy2012

I'm not sure about the speed at 18th century, but during 30-year war the Swedes firerate was 5-6 shots a minute, which was considered as a very high rate of fire, and it was one of the reason for the Swedens success in the war.

  • @Pikkabuu That would be a shot every 10-12 seconds which isn't likely in he first place assuming the muskets where loaded properly, but it's particularly unlikely given that 150 years later when there had been some advances in technology in particular not using the musket rest like they would have done in the 30 years war and the invention of Flintlocks the best infantry would only be expected to fire 5 rpm at best and only if they spent little time aiming and if not a prolonged period

  • @Delogros

Swedish had some sort of less complicated way to reload and they trained on reloading a lot. 5-6 shots sounds like a crazy ammount but it is true that Swedes were able to attain that firerate. Many officers who fought against the Swedish at the 30-year war commented on their very high rate of fire.

  • @Pikkabuu I'm not going to argue the point (I wasn't there after all :)) I just don't see how a wick lighted (sorry I forget the technical term) musket which has to use a stand due to the weight and uses a wooden ramrod could ever attain that sort of fire rate.

For the Prussian army some years later to come close to 6 shots a minute all these firearm advances had to happen so unless each Swedish soldier came with his own fast forward button I can't believe they could attain that rate.

  • @Pikkabuu The key word their was believe - It's my opinion only at this point i have no factual evidence other then the complexity of the process of loading and firing for one way or the other.

1/5 the fire rate for a Lee enfield rifle (400 years later) at the very birth (i.e. transition from arquebus to muskets) of the musket simply doesn't make sense (to me :)) specifically :))

  • @Delogros

Yeah no worry. I coudn't believe the firerate also when I first heard it, but it is apparently true. I have to check few books about the Karolinian army though as I'm not that certain on 17th century history.

  • if you dudes wonder why the cannons didn't have any direct hit earlier(0:39), it was part of the strategy.

  • @joey143anna Can you further on explain that strategy please? I can't comprehend why they wouldn't want to inflict damage on the line.

  • @krustykelvin im guessing idk here but just a scare tactic to show what the british can do and what they have artillery wise and attempt to do least amount of line battle time as possible

  • @joey143anna In order to mark the territory or to play psychological games with the enemy ?

  • @AmersfoortTristan if the director will make a direct hit, wont it be applied as murder? unless you're out of budget to pay those stuntmen, yeah direct hit is considered.

  • @joey143anna If you looked further on in the battle there were several "direct hits" (of course stunts but you catch my drift).

  • @AmersfoortTristan it was just my hypothesis, why? actually cannons could make more kills according to the enemy numbers, a cannoneer could have a direct hit with his eyes closed. the other cannon took kills on the rear but why not in the middle? 2:02 that's a hit.

  • @joey143anna I am not sure about your hypothesis but we've got to remember that this is Hollywood. What we would need for this is an historian.

  • @AmersfoortTristan i know, star wars has more facts than this.

  • @joey143anna Too put it mildly :)

  • @joey143anna for the americans or british?

  • @dominoz22 brits...(no contrariwise please)

  • @joey143anna wtf does that mean?

  • @dominoz22 it means fuck off........ Just kidding dude! i meant i don't want to argue..

  • @joey143anna fuck you! jokes and why would i start a argument im brittish so yea

  • @dominoz22 Same to you, by the way Merry Christmas......

  • @joey143anna thanks you to. :)

  • @joey143anna why? isn't it just a waist of energy and ammunition?

  • @DrmrGuy1979 We weren't under rule of any "rioting kids" they were just looting which isn't ruling at all. But I tell you now we did rule a third of the world.

  • Nice head shot it should of been the brittish

  • @Pieman317

That was a luck shot, round shots (the kind of ammunition you saw being fired from the cannons) is supposed to hit the ground in front of the soldiers and roll/flip, taking out their legs or taking them out in rows

  • subscribe pls

  • 2:08 HEAD SHOT BITCH

  • @yourmomface21 ahah pitty it wasnt a 360 can u subscribe? plz

  • @yourmomface21 "Head Shot bitch?" What are you some kind of gamer asshole? How about showing some fucking respect, even though it might be a film, there's no need to be insensitive about it.

  • im just say " gg/ good game

  • @jonassejersen1967 i call it a slaughter

    ahah

  • If it wasn't for the French you would still be under our rule.

  • @Infinite689 haha yeah i agree subscribe plz haha

  • @Weirdo7310 do you know the title of the music that's being played?

  • @joey143anna yeah it the British Grenadiers song

  • @Weirdo7310 i kinda like the music, i wish someone would teach me. Thanks 4 the info dude!

  • @joey143anna no problem if u want me to upload another scene just ask and ill do it

  • @Weirdo7310 an englishman dude just gave me the title, it's fifes and drums.

  • IVE ALWAYS WONDERED THIS- whos the man always beside Cornwallis? The man who laughed at the end

  • @Karl88ful the persons name is General O'Hara real person interesting person actually look him up

  • I'm british but really, Savish, calm down. We can all live in peace now :)
