No disrespect, but this was a joke of a comparison. As mentioned, you were comparing the bootup times to a Windows version that was still in beta. And that was the LONGEST I've ever seen Windows take to bootup. If my computer took that long to boot Win 7, I'd throw it out the window. Average times for bootup for Win 7 is about 41 seconds. And that's from a cold boot.
This is inaccurate bios != Windows 7, in the video it's clear as day that the bios which shouldn't take long takes longer on your machine. Mines 1 - 3 seconds, Windows 7, load, login. All in about 15 - 20 seconds, faster than your mac OS boot time by about 40 seconds on older hardware than what's in the mac mini cpu wise.

but you can buy much more powerful pc's in the price range of your mabook pro. your macbook pro will most likely use a dual core whereas many laptops now use i5 and some even use i7 cores. there is a packardbell laptop for 700 pounds that uses an i5 core on the pc world website. so that laptop would be quicker at all the programs than your macbook. that is a bit of an issue for alot of users
I got very sad news for you Mac fanatics, what if windows boots a little slower, performance is not based on booting time, as any REAL COMPUTER BUILDER knows. Besides, if I wanted to improve my system, a quick processor upgrade is all it takes, unlike the brick boxes macs are sealed in, you can't really upgrade anything on it, except maybe your Ram, and some burnt wired from all the over heating from the lac of ventilation. BTW, macs are only good for digital photo frames.

This is a bad experiment. To get accurate results you have to keep everything the same except for the control. Meaning, you can only change one thing at a time. I learned that in frekan 6th grade. To do this correctly, you first load Mac OS X on the PC, test the time, load the windows, test the time, do the same with the mac. Then i would believe the results. I'm not saying windows 7 is better then Mac OS, but i'm not saying mac OS is better either, because this test sucked...
yea dude your Intel Core 2 Duo is about 3 times faster then a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+. the 4200 only has 2x 512 kb 200 mega herz dose make up for 3 mb of extra cache.

Very unscientific. Perhaps consider making a Bootcamp partition on your Mac and installing Windows 7 there. Then, at least both operating systems could be compared on the same system.
I examined your other videos and noticed your many mac videos. Again, consider your bias (if it exists) towards macs. Please do not rate operating systems irrationally.

As an additional tip, on a future windows 7 bootup test, click on Win+R and type in "msconfig" and startup tab and disable all startup programs. This i only fair because the Macs have a different system and thus startup programs hardly affect the it.
Do not mistake me for a windows fanboy as I have used Macs before. I understand why many people would tend towards Macs after the first impression. However, i found that macs didn't end processes after the x button. That made me go windows.
7-Please rate the windows 7 release candidate or the most recent build Windows 7600.
Again, please reconsider your test and correct the inconsistencies because they are obvious and will only make you lose your credibility. Windows users will only think you are doing this on purpose. Mac users will appraise you but deep down they know the mistakes on this test.
Also, please explain the startup window that popped up prior to the loading of the windows account.
5-It is no question that the mac will boot faster with the lowest effort because of the hardware the mac is limited to. Because of their isolation from the rest of the operating system world, the Mac is optimized to run on the hardware it is purchased in.
6-The Windows 7 Beta 7000 build has debugging code that is only present in the betas. This will undoubtly make the operating system even slower.
3-If you really wanted to test a windows 7 bootup and shutdown, I want to see you do that with a clean installation of windows 7 and a clean installation of the mac os X. Do not blame microsoft for poorly written software developed by thirdparties.
4-I am guessing that you did an upgrade installation of windows 7. Upgrade installations will almost always cause inconsistecies and errors.
i appreciate your attempt at a boot test however, I must point out several flaws:
1-The HP computer showed a BIOS screen. This does not count towards the time it takes to boot up the operating system. It is rather counted towards the time it takes to start the processor and hardware of the computer.
2-I noticed that the BIOS was on for quite a long time. This amount of time for the BIOS will usually indicate that an external hard drive or other removable hardware was attached to the computer.
While some may argue that you are running a beta version of Windows 7 against the release version of Mac OS X Leopard, but in reality this is an unfair fight for OS X. Leopard is Apple's old OS. A fair fight would be Windows 7 vs Snow Leopard, which (according to Apple) is faster and shuts down 75% faster than Leopard.

ok well i don't know what's wrong with your laptop because i have windows 7 beta (getting RC soon) and mine boots way more faster then that does and i almost filled up my hard drive. I have Celeron M and 786mb of RAM so it's a moderate laptop but it boots up in less then 30 seconds and i need to get around to cleaning it. So please check that both of your computers have the same memory, space, and processor please. Even though it is still a very well made video.Nice job.

yea dude your Intel Core 2 Duo is about 3 times faster then a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+. the 4200 only has 2x 512 kb 200 mega herz dose make up for 3 mb of extra cache.

Anyone can see that he cheated by looking at the video. He makes a video named "windows 7 vs Mac OS X". In that case he should have clocked Windows 7 from the bootmnager menu and not the ever so slow BIOS, because the BIOS has nothing to do with Windows 7, so yes, he cheated.

The second thing that makes me say that he cheated, is the fact that he ran both operating systems on different hardware. Imagine ZDnet or CNet doing this; they woudl be out of business in no-time.

ok, so why dont i just start my mac from the part where it shows the apple and the circle and then test it?!?! even if a few seconds were wasted and not spent loading at the boot menu, that time wasted is nothing compared to the time the mac beat the pc. and anyway, if there is gona be a bootmenu, everybody is gona have to press OK or whatever which is still gona take more time for any person to start up.

You're a clueless noob, this is not the Pentium era in which the number of Mhz would tell a user how fast a CPU was. A core2duo is a superior design compared to a dual core.
In your view an iCore 7 Extreme 3.33Ghz and $1000 at Newegg would be slower than a Pentium D running at 3.6Ghz...idiot.

actually even if he were to go by ur logic and start from the boot menu, which took time to LOAD, the mac still beat it because it was so far ahead that it was further ahead in time them the time it took to get to the dock menu anyway. even if he did cheat, the mac still beat the windows. u fail at life idiot

Very unscientific. Perhaps consider making a Bootcamp partition on your Mac and installing Windows 7 there. Then, at least both operating systems could be compared on the same system.

As an additional tip, on a future windows 7 bootup test, click on Win+R and type in "msconfig" and startup tab and disable all startup programs. This i only fair because the Macs have a different system and thus startup programs hardly affect the it.
Do not mistake me for a windows fanboy as I have used Macs before. I understand why many people would tend towards Macs after the first impression. However, i found that macs didn't end processes after the x button. That made me go windows.

7-Please rate the windows 7 release candidate or the most recent build Windows 7600.
Again, please reconsider your test and correct the inconsistencies because they are obvious and will only make you lose your credibility. Windows users will only think you are doing this on purpose. Mac users will appraise you but deep down they know the mistakes on this test.
Also, please explain the startup window that popped up prior to the loading of the windows account.

5-It is no question that the mac will boot faster with the lowest effort because of the hardware the mac is limited to. Because of their isolation from the rest of the operating system world, the Mac is optimized to run on the hardware it is purchased in.
6-The Windows 7 Beta 7000 build has debugging code that is only present in the betas. This will undoubtly make the operating system even slower.

3-If you really wanted to test a windows 7 bootup and shutdown, I want to see you do that with a clean installation of windows 7 and a clean installation of the mac os X. Do not blame microsoft for poorly written software developed by thirdparties.
4-I am guessing that you did an upgrade installation of windows 7. Upgrade installations will almost always cause inconsistecies and errors.

i appreciate your attempt at a boot test however, I must point out several flaws:
1-The HP computer showed a BIOS screen. This does not count towards the time it takes to boot up the operating system. It is rather counted towards the time it takes to start the processor and hardware of the computer.
2-I noticed that the BIOS was on for quite a long time. This amount of time for the BIOS will usually indicate that an external hard drive or other removable hardware was attached to the computer.

While some may argue that you are running a beta version of Windows 7 against the release version of Mac OS X Leopard, but in reality this is an unfair fight for OS X. Leopard is Apple's old OS. A fair fight would be Windows 7 vs Snow Leopard, which (according to Apple) is faster and shuts down 75% faster than Leopard.

dude i installed windows and deleted it off my hard drive in about a week because it took space and was and epic fail and i only play starcraft on my computer everything else on my xbox or if i really want to play a windows game which their arnt really that great of games ill play on my desk top :P

ok well i don't know what's wrong with your laptop because i have windows 7 beta (getting RC soon) and mine boots way more faster then that does and i almost filled up my hard drive. I have Celeron M and 786mb of RAM so it's a moderate laptop but it boots up in less then 30 seconds and i need to get around to cleaning it. So please check that both of your computers have the same memory, space, and processor please. Even though it is still a very well made video.Nice job.
