  • isn't it safer to ride with a bareback pad so the horse feels the girth so they don't just feel free..?

  • @horsebackriding4evr it depends really on the horse. If they are always riden in a saddle its a good idea but for a horse who regularly ridden bareback it is usually just fine without:)

  • I ride bareback on a bareback pad. My teacher won't let me ride completely bareback.

  • @Basshuntergirl325 i wanted to get that put its kinda not the same because the horses hair is alot more slippery and without the pad you build more leg strenth but its totally ok riding with a bareback pad.

  • PFFT. I'D be on a horse that means the WORLD to me! So I trust her...I love her probably more than anything else in the world!

:D The bond between us...can't be broken....!

  • I hate riding bareback! Maybe it's because i can't even trot and my pony i s turd when i do because he knows he can get me off easy lol! XD

  • @garfieldzgirl haha i know what ya mean! :P honestly trotting is the hardest part! i've jumped up to 3' bareback and trotting still sucks haha :P

  • @mysecretscankill Oh you're lucky you can even trot let alone jump bareback! xx

  • @garfieldzgirl haha honestly it was sooo hard to get used to it! it feels REALLY different from your saddle you feel like your leaning WAY back haha one of my friends is learning to jump bareback and she hasn't even jumped with a saddle yet :P

  • @mysecretscankill Hahahaha i think it's hard because my pony is really bouncy sometimes lol so it is had and he rushes but rug - back is waaayyy better :p

  • @garfieldzgirl hahaha yaaa i learned on a horse that was used for western before so she can do a jog soperfect to learn on and now i can ride basically anything lol like obvi not everything but everything ive tried haha

  • when i train for the games, i lunge my pony then i ride bareback. although the irish gamees may run diffrently in your country, but the irish games are not that easy.

  • So excited about the games! --The Great American Dollhouse Museum

  • tiger, she wasn't wrapping her legs around her horse hard.EVERYONE rides different. And horses are dif.some horses respond to that as speed up,or some respond to that as stay at your normal speed.

  • I have a question, i just purchased a 4 year old off the track thoroughbred, she is a bit hyper and strong. Small horse, but she is strong, I am working with her, but I am trying to find some techniques that can help the horse to stay calm and not jumpy or hyper... any suggestions? Is there any way you can do a short video on how to tame a hyper horse?

  • try lunging before you ride her, i'm sure you can find a video of how to lunge on youtube some where.

  • @atojaytrippleseven hey, i thought maybe i could help. I recently trained a 3 yo off the track tb. She is also small, but still strong, and was very frightened. I startd with lots of free lungeing in a round yard, lots of riding in the round yard, buildng her confidence and my own. If she gets out of hand, one rein stop, pull the horse in a tight circle with one rein. In these beginning months it is important you trust each other, and develop a bond :) hope that heelps a little :) PM me

  • ermm she sayin still with bridle on you dont have to depending on the horse i always ride bare back in the field and i mean completely bare back, i love the feelin canterin bare back with out saddle or bridle or head collar its amazing feelin

  • do you somhow sit closer to the horses neck then when u have a saddle on?

  • You and the saddle will most likely rest into the same spot. I would say to avoid the withers considering that is a painful place to be sitting. xD

  • Ahahahaha! Yeah... once tried that.... I WAS TROTTING!!! XD Yeah, very painful. Thanks!

  • you only wrap teh "above teh knee" part of oyur legs on the horse or else you are giving them the signal to go faster

  • A good horse back rider knows how to wrap their lower leg around their horse without making them go faster.

  • yeah i rode this pony bareback she was great but i wrapped my legs under her and she went nuts so it probs just best to use a good grip but wrapping your legs and give them the wrong signal

  • @emmahorse if you have a horse whos not a challenge to work with they usually are okay with very little grip if you keep a good posture and don't grip with your knees then your leg can basically hang relaxed or at least in my experience they can. just remember a nice DEEP seat and you should be fine :)

  • Most of all horses speed up when you wrap your legs arround them. You always want to have a little pressure on the bit and never to much on the leg. If you DO wrap your legs arround him make sure you dont put alot of pressur on the bit because he may get confused.

  • I liked everything except for when you said that you need to rap your legs around the horse.. Cause no matter how used to the horse you are, with alot of them if you rap your legs around them they may speed up to much, espicially for the new bareback riders.. Like with me i have a horse that i trained myself and we get along great but if i hold on with my legs he takes off hes just a very sensitive sided horse..

  • you are always supposed to have your legs around the horse. to keep them from speeding up, you need to keep your contact on the reins and maybe have a little more contact.

  • Well. Im a WESTERN PLEASURE rider.. I dont believe in much mouth contact.. AT ALL. The horse i have i jump on him bareback, Keep my leg contact off him when i dont want him going fast, keep the reins hanging loose & low, letting him have his head, and he does great. he wins any pleasure class. Now if i were to get on him bareback, rap my legs around him, and keep contact, hed 1. speed up, 2. get confused, 3. get pissed. NOBODY trains the SAME way. What you think is right i may think is wrong.

  • that's ok. you don't have to get all worked up about it. i didn't know what discipline you ride. i ride english equitation and i am just taught to always have my leg on and add contact at the same time =] i don't know you or your horse

  • erm... sorry. this is breakfast monkey. i forgot to log back on to my account

  • yea exactly! i hate it when people see you do something different than they do on a horse they tell you you're doing it wrong! My horse needs a whip when riding bareback or else he will not turn.

  • Yeah. I have 3 horses, Each i trained, And each one is for diff. things. One i go on hacks with. The other i show, and the other i give my friends lessons on. The horse i hack on, is fairley responsive, but not really. and is used to anything, the show horse, i show western pleasure, and i do use spur-stops, just so it looks better. but if i keep my legs on he gets pissed. the other, he listens if you know what your doing, if not, he ignores you and does his job.

  • @horsesrule43096 I completely agree! and not only is the training different more importantly the horse is! half the horses i ride will toss their heads and be frustrated if they cannot feel a bit of contact in their mouth you can't tell someone exactly how to ride their horse if you don't know the horse,

  • totally agree =) but i guess it does depend on the horse

  • I'm not sure I've never notice them speed up, though I do agree with you, but I don't agree with that method because when I do it, my legs get tired and I have to catch myself, so I end up squeezing and quivering and so on straining my leg muscles and my horse sees that as me tensing up constantly, afraid of something, so he thinks he should be afraid too, and that's when things get bad -,-

  • nice video!
