Everyone, just be patient. Sometimes depending on the type of lychee seed you have it might take a month or two or even longer to germinate and sprout. Mine took almost two months before I noticed anything.

I left my lychee seeds in a moist paper towel for 1 week and still the seed didn't sprout -.- what am I doing wrong?

@hamid954 put the moist paper towel (with seed in it) in a zip-lock bag, blow into it (carbon dioxide helps growth/germination), then close the bag. repeat carbon dioxide step every 3 days or so. enjoy.

@hamid954 Hmm... the only other thing i can think of is the possibility that there was too much water in the paper towel. Usually I start out by putting a (dry) paper towel with a seed into the zip-lock bag, then pour water into it. I determine how much water is needed by pouring out the excess (water) down to the last drop; from my experience the amount that stays soaked in the paper towel after all the extra water is poured out is the right amount needed for germination. I hope this helps.

@nikkilp07 I agree. I used simple wet paper, soaked in water and have it cultivated in makeshift greenhouse made of a glass bell. The guy here makes it work, and it is the importen part. I didn't know which way the sprouts would grow, for instance, so I planted 10 seeds in 10 differente angles. After seeing this video I am going to rearrange them all accept one which is growing nicely. Looking forward to 3 weeks time. Going to be amazing.

My friend gave me lychee fruit. I never had them fresh. Just as a goof, I took a seed and put in soil...its growing. Looks great. I know they get big but I have it in a small pot on my terrace. I didnt do anything special at all. Its the first fruit seed I ever planted.

Do it like an avocado. Just cut a slit in the seed coat and put tooth picks in the slits. Suspend the seed above water for a couple weeks, wait for the shoot to get about 8-10 inches/20-25cm. Then plant it. You don't have to use a tampon....

That is not a tampon. It is called a pad. It would be pretty darn hard trying to get a lychee nut in a tampon.

Thanks for the advice anyway! I use kitchen paper towels and if I forget for a couple of days to water them, they dry out which is very bad. A pad will keep them wet.:-)

@razorblade42069 Yes they do, I am in San Diego and I grown few lychees from seeds, also longans but this ones took longer time for me. I sent 3 baby lychee trees to Mexico and I am growing 2 more here for now...ooh and I just drop the seeds on good soil and prepare the water with fruit plant food....no pads...loooool!!! Good it worked out fine for the video guy. This are expensive fruits, so are worth the effort...Good Luck!
