Without entering into any controversies i wish to react to Mr.Savvy subbu's comments. As a lay mani wish to say that the scales of Marwa and Sohni are same and it is in the prayog they differ. Marwa is a slow progresive raga with lower ocatave sancharan. as sung or played coming out with a different mood.
I wish savvy is not very harsh on people who err here. After all knowledge is a progressive discovery of ignorance. Unless we expose our ignorance how do we correct ourselves?
Please listen to my new song that I've uploaded on my page. I would really appreciate it if you would be able to let me know what you think about it. Thanks so much.
i heard this keerthanam sung by ranjini-gayathri at thirunakkara mahadeva temple, kottayam on 25th March, 2011.Before rendering it, as an introduction they announced to the audience that the raga of this keerthanam is SOHINI.
SOHINI
(53 gamanashramA janya) Aa: S G3 M2 D2 N3 S Av: S N3 D2 M2 G3 R1 S
whereas
HAMSANANDI
(53 gamanashrama janya) Aa: S R1 G3 M2 D2 N3 S Av: S N3 D2 M2 G3 R1 S
In SOHINI, suddha-rishabha is absent in the arohana
Thanks Carnaticopia for posting all MMU 2010 videos of Ranjani Gayatri ! I missed the telecast on JayaTV. but this more than made up, sans the TV ads too :)
This raga is carnatic hamsanandi.. The mapping to hindustani is not unique. Based on their rendition, I am guessing it is closer to "raag mArvA" and not "raag sOhini". Please do not post incorrect equivalents in hindustani. People who learn from these postings learn it wrong and carry it forever.- Thanks
a beautiful krithi in hamsanandi with a lean on to be more hindustani.carnatic itself is beautiful without fusion with hindustani.
