  • My brother taught me to appreciate people like this. For that I am forever grateful. He is amazing. I don't like rap or any of that crap. Elliott truly understands people though. He was real.

  • Listen again?

    Listen again. 00:00

  • It's people like this that make me keep writing music, even if no one sees it. This is beautiful. He deserved so much more.

  • *sigh...speechless*...

  • <3

  • love? i wish he could understand

  • spelled his name wrong hunn:3 it's like my name. Elliott:D

  • I've always loved Elliott Smith, but I never knew about this Elliott Smith song until I had found it in a Google search for "songs that would apply to Holden Caulfield". The song is simply magical...I've been in a trance for an hour listening to this song over and over and over again. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard...RIP Elliott Smith. <3

  • <3

  • i love it!

  • This song makes me cry, it makes me think about all the things ive done wrong. And what people have done to me. I hate this song because it's so beautiful.

  • This song has been just a perfect lullaby. I'm so in love with Eliott's music...

  • Thanks for helping me finding this song Yiruma.

  • this guy is amazing, my uncle got me started listening to him and hes extremely good

  • In the beginning of the new millennium i bought a music magazine included a CD. It was in my point of view s new kind of music. It was something like beautiful melancholy. The beginning of something new in music. Now I know that two of the best songs on that CD, the so called 'frontmen' are dead. Suicide. And I thought about the 90th. Curt Cobain and Michael Hutchence, INXS. I like so much Sparklehorse, Mark Linkous, the song 'Hey Joe'. And like this much. So sad R.I.P. you guys. Miss you all.

  • I like this song so much. And the best interpreter of this song is the guy that wrote the song. Mr Elliott.

  • I just have died.

  • Person: This song is lovely.

    Egomaniac: This song is lovely.

  • its so beautiful when you can connect you life to a song.

  • i don't knwo why.. but for some reason i think afi got some of there inspiration from elliott smith.. they sound a bit a like. atleast in this song

  • Comment removed

  • love it.

  • L00:00VE it :)

  • Beautiful is all I can say...

  • Whenever I start craving Meth again...whenever the urges get too bad I put this song on. The pain he sings about is sung as if written specifically for me. I listen to it with my eyes closed and before I know it, the cravings go away and I continue about my daily business.

  • @gbeach85 whenever I think about using stimulants, i instantly think about the horrible crash afterwards and I wouldnt even consider doing them again... doesn't that deter you some? I don't see how anyone could like stimulants

  • @DylG1111 I was just talking about this the other day actually in regards to birds chirping. I use to hate the sounds of birds chirping for awhile after I got clean because when I was using it signified the sun rising, me coming down off of the stimulants and knowing that soon I would be depressed and in physical aggony. It's sad that something so pretty could carry such negative weight for me.

  • @gbeach85 oh man... I know exactly what you mean... I use to hate the sun coming through the windows after a night of binging on ecstacy.. those were the darkest mornings I've ever had..

  • @DylG1111 Thank God those days are ones that we look back upon and not a current state of "living."

  • i also discover new artists right after they die </3 well rest in paridise my sweet atleast we have a voice of a angel to listen to

  • RIP Eliott Smith <3 your music is like a second god.

  • I cried.

    This song is me

    but more beautiful.

  • I think Ive raped the replay button over 1000 times, I absolutely love this song

    R.I.P Elliot <3

  • WHY IS REBECCA BLACK IN RELATED VIDEOS?! Seriously, have some respect for the dead...

  • @DestinysNinja the bastards that made youtube made a really stupid "related" system

  • I love his music, but I feel for the man behind it. He clearly suffered in a prison of his own mind. Wasn't the first time he tried to suicide, it is reported that he once threw himself off a cliff and impaled himself on a tree, plus purposely tried to OD a number of times. So sad, as he is clearly a musical genius. Maybe he asked her to do it, doubt anyone will ever know. RIP Elliot, many people miss you, even though they never met you. XOXO

  • real talk i understand what he sayin and das some deep shit he sayin gotta give him credit man

  • btw he sounded awful live

  • @dontwakeme288 FUCK YOU! THIS IS REAL MUSIC!

  • His voice is so smooth. It just flows.

    Truely a musican.

  • Does anyone else feel like he's singing right to you?

  • Justin Beiber + Katy Perry + Lady Gaga = meaning-less music (at least for me) i need this mellow music. <3

  • <3

  • I really wish this song was longer.

  • @TheGraduand

    me too

  • @TheGraduand and I really wish his life was longer. Funny how that works, isn't it?

  • @TheGraduand This song is perfect the way it is. Elliott wrote the perfect amount of lyrics for a perfect song with a perfect meaning. It's fucking PERFECT haha.

  • <3 <3 <3

  • This song is amazing,<3

  • @CrazyChicVids

    Madeline Peyroux

  • My English Teacher played this song in class for us today, and i fell in love with it instantly. Elliot's voice is so chilling and amazing. And his life story is awfully similar to my dear Cousin Adrians. amazing. Simply Amazing.

  • @LaFantasmaVirtual you have a cool teacher! :)

  • @LaFantasmaVirtual

Yeah, Its so sad to know that people with that big talent lived in such darkness.

  • 2'18'' of bliss

  • Elliott....You are forever.

  • I love this song, but i heard a woman verison of this somewhere. Someone help me find it!!! :)

  • @CrazyChicVids

Was it Heykelsey? If not, you should looke her up anyways. She's really good.

  • @CrazyChicVids

    Is it this one?

    watch?v=MWFS3t2rK04

Her name is Madeleine Peyroux. She is simply amazing!

  • this song reminds me of someone I used to love very much, every single time I hear it.

  • dope music

  • It fascinates me, listening to her at night in the profound silence of everything is magical and damn touching. Clench your fists on the pillow when I end up something beautiful is only a searing pain.

  • This song makes me want to cry, not only because this song is absolutely beautiful but because it describes how I'm living my life right now and my personality, being I seem to be drinking in order to make myself happy, I am having a hard time fulfilling the potential I could be, I'm always making promises to myself to change, but I never do, my self esteem is practically zero.I sit up all night thinking about things that don't matter, but seem to eat at me.

    Oh,Elliott you were so beautiful.

  • @jessicakennon I understand you ... unfortunately ...

  • @jessicakennon

You have the thoughts. Fill in the missing pieces. You will be amazed of where your potential will make you land. Find the will. Implement. Give it more time. Hang in there !!

  • @jessicakennon What you have to remember is that ellot wrote this because he was staying upat night, and thngs were eating away at him too. He used music as his outlet. He wasn't strong enough in the end, but everyone has the potential to better themselves- they just have to want it enough

  • bellissima♥

  • This song draws me in, the more i listen to it the more i can feel him echoeing through time

  • rip

  • What a beautiful man.

  • I always think of her when I hear this. I wish she was still here or that I could've been there to change something.

  • This song I believe is about his alcoholism and couldn't have randomly discovered this beautiful song at a more cosmic time. Thanks Elliot....

  • His voice is incredible.

  • <33333333

  • Too bad I didn't know you, You were great ! <3

  • Oh , putain je Keaf !

  • how and when did he die????

  • @safari0024 He was found dead in his apartment that him and his girlfriend shared, they were arguing and she left the room, heard a scream and when she returned he had two stab wounds. There was a possible suicide note but its not certain if it was suicide or homicide.

  • @TheCelicagtsman nooo! :'( *sniff* I found him and fell in love with his music to find out that he's already dead??? WAH!

  • @safari0024 he died at 34, in 2003 from stab-wounds to the chest. The coroner couldn't decide whether they were self-inflicted or not, but many believe, due to his alcoholism and depression, that they were probably self-inflicted.

  • @Rogermiler NOBODY STABS THEM SELF IN THE CHEST.

  • @ianssupercool elliott fucking smith does.

  • @ianssupercool I was just quoting wiki. Yeah, I agree, it does seem strange to stab yourself in the chest, but then again, if it WAS suicide, you've gotta give him points for originality.

  • @kkmatt

I think that it doesn't matter how he died his music lives on and we at least owe him rest where his death is not questioned for giving us such beautiful music that we can relate to :)

  • @rvmm2 are you fvcking kidding me? if there is a possiblity that anyone was murdered the only thing that should be owed to them is at least investigating and finding out if they were indeed murdered.

i'm not denying the fact that he made beautiful music to relate to. i celebrate it, but don't tell me that in order to respect someone we can't question how shit went down. or you can. i just don't have to listen. this is just my opinion of course.

  • @kkmatt

I know what you mean but Elliott Smith was a man who thought his music was the only thing about him worthy enought to be on this world, and while i disagree with him as he was a great man, he would still only want us to reflect on his music. Again i understand what you mean but anyone isn't Elliott Smith :)

  • @Rogermiler :( not cool

  • this man makes me cry

  • reminds me of him all over again.. "and i'll make you okay and drive them away. the images stuck in ur head.." this is all me </3. i miss you baby...

  • Lovely...

  • I love you Laura Mae.

  • Drink up baby, look at the stars.

I'll kiss you again, between the bars.

  • Tomorrow's his death anniversary...

  • @mychocolatemusic really!!?

  • @mychocolatemusic It was the 21st noob.

  • makes me so sad ...

  • I love you Dana.

  • just saying, youtube needs a replay button just for this song

  • The lyrics are so simple on the surface, but the whole meaning is so complex. Got to love that..what an amazing song.

  • The potential you'll be that you'll never see...

  • I'm so glad that this video doesn't have one dislike :)

  • how did he die?

  • @workyourblondexo It was reported that he committed suicide with 2 stab wounds to the chest

  • @pstylez05 omg poor boy... i've been listeneing to this song for an hour on repeat. he has a beautiful soul and mind

  • @workyourblondexo he reportedly stabbed himself in the heart. its a very symbolic way to die, he must have really meant it. he was really sad, but all the most beautiful people are.

  • Imagine what would happen if he were still alive... I would donate myself.

  • ELLIOTT not ELLIOT

  • @aribo05

Yeah, apparently by suicide, he stabbed himself in the chest...that was something bad..., but before that he was very deep into drugs, and he was always thinking about suicide.

  • @aribo05 On October 21st of 2003.
