  • brilliant!

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you!!

  • dude it works~! thanks!

  • Outstanding. Power to the People!

  • The true lesson in this video is "don't buy a macaw - they're really loud"

  • I have a HL-2040 and this trick worked wonders for me too, despite my cartridge being quite old it still had toner left.

  • I am so grateful. After shaking the cartridge and cleaning the corona wire to no avail, I was getting ready to buy yet another replacement. (At this point, I've easily spent more on replacement toner than I did for the HL-2141 itself.)

I still miss my late, great Brother HL-2140 because its toner lasted a whole lot longer. Plus, if you shook its cartridge after the yellow "Toner" light went on, the cartridge generally lasted quite some time until it truly gave out.

  • Sweet. Thank you very much.

  • Like a charm! Thanks from Argentina =)

  • I really wish I would have seen this BEFORE spending $80 on a replacement toner... at least I saw this when getting ready to replace it so I know to save the old one!

  • You're hot.

  • throw out the piece of shit. the software will never get deleted from your hard drive, no matter what you do, even if you run uninstall and delete is 30 times.

  • worked! thx

  • Dude! You are my hero! Thank you so much for posting this! Saved me a ton!

  • Thank you so much for making this video!! You TOTALLY helped me!!

  • you are the man!! my printer LIIIIIVES!!!!

  • I cannot get my drum out of my newish HL- 2140 .

    Can someone help please .

I have the new cartridge .

  • great :D

  • Thank you so so so much for posting this video! My toner lasted another 7 months after following your instructions! :D You're a life saver!!

  • Hey, thanks very much mate it really helps!

  • Hey, Thanks for taking the time to post this solution! Saved me a trip to the store over the holidays - and my daughter got her college paper printed before heading back to college! Now I wish I hadn't thrown away the old "empty" cartridges.

  • People go to Ebay and search for TN-330 and TN-360 toners. They run for as little as $20 and are compatible. I use one and it print perfectly, once every couple of months it start printing with ink stains in the paper but you just take the toner out and clean it a little, problem solve.

  • Great job dude.....keep it up

  • it worked! thanks a lot! i just spent $70 on a new cartridge and turns out there's still ink left in the old one...

  • Thank you so much,

  • Thanks... I have 4 ' empty ' cartridges to try this on.

  • Tried this and it totally worked! Thanks man. Saved me so much money.

  • A lot of the Brother printers actually have an override in the menus for when the replace toner light comes on, don't know if it applies to your printer.

"You can set the machine to continue printing after the LCD shows Replace Toner.

The machine will continue printing until the LCD shows Toner Ended.

    The default setting is Stop.

If you continue printing in the Continue mode, we cannot guarantee the print quality

  • I'll be the other manufacturers do exactly the same thing, but we've just found a way around the Brother.

It's great too because this printers kick arse!!

  • Dude I just recycled my toner at staples. But thanks for the heads up

  • Thank you so much!!!!

  • I've used the same printer to print out my pharmacology notes a couple of years back aswell. It's a beast of a printer, has lasted me 2 years but after seeing this I think i can squeeze a bit more from it !!!!

  • if you get a chance, do an upclose shot of the sensor area. I'm old and gray and took me a bit to figure it out. probably not bad for the ol' brain, though. ;) and THANKS! it worked!!!

  • Dude it did this to me too but I am clueless about printers.

  • Dude, awesome. You just got me out of a bug jam. Thanks.

  • i have a 2242D, what do i do!!!!!!!!!!

  • YES white masking tape worked - toner had been blinking for ages then it came on solid would not print at all - taped and perfect pages printed.

  • 5 workers from Brother have seen this,

and let me say 'F.U.' for them

  • @YoungYunCho I hope you mean that directed towards Brother and not towards me :)

  • @YoungYunCho yeah the brother worker seen this and they DO IT TO

  • Thanks great money saver for a student!

  • THANX THANX THANX THANX !!!!!!!!!!! a ton

  • Good one, lucky i didn't throw out all the other 5 cartridges :) thanks mate :)

  • @galaxypromotional Uh oh, be sure you don't become a hoarder!

  • Also, if it's starting to print unevenly, you can take it out and smack it against your hand a few times side to side to even out the toner distribution. Makes it last even longer!

  • @rjc34 Absolutely, I noticed it making dark streaks down the pages at one point and shaking it gently from side to side did the trick.

  • Just tried this. and it works like a beauty:) Thanks mate.

  • Thanks for making the effort to publish this simply delightful practical tip. I also needed to know that to get the cartridge out in the first place, you need to have the printer switched on!! Judy in Sydney Australia

  • Couldn't get this to work for my 2240, but this vid helped. In case anyone else had a problem.

    "HL-2240D Toner Solution Tutorial"

  • Thank you thank you!!! Great help!

  • thanks it helped me too!

  • Thanks! That really helped. Now just trying to figure out when it does run out how to make the "compatible" generic toner fit in (it's about half the size).

  • There's a sad doggy there =[

  • Saved my butt! Thanks :)

  • thank you!!!!!

  • Thanks, I brought up an issue of emergency

  • Thanks Do you know any tricks for the drum? My drum light has been on for 2 years now. Honestly i don't know what to do about it. I have a HL-2040

  • Thanks man. Working really fine.

  • Thanks!

  • totally worked, thank you!

  • That is amazing! Totally works!

  • Thanks a bunch!!!

  • THIS IS AWESOMEE...THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • help me it did not work

  • This will be great right up until the point that sticky tape becomes more expensive than toner cartridges.

  • Thanks! Not only was your video informative, it was amusing! :D

  • You just saved me! and gave me a laugh with the pharm notes and the stack you printed.

My toner went out in the middle of printing the exact same along with path stuff.

  • This is great! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge with us!

  • you blew me away bro

    thanks a lot

  • This was brilliant, thank you!

  • Thanks, guy. It totally worked for me. Really appreciate you taking the time to do this and to give voice to your macaw. :-)

  • My printer wasn't printing and was about to order cartridge for $30. Thanks for the video. I will change my toner when it starts to print faded pages.

  • Cheers mate, nice work. I was going to buy a new toner cartridge tomorrow until I had trouble pulling the cartridge out of the machine, then searched the web for how to remove cartridge and found your video. Not only did I learn how to remove but how to prolong! Cheers again!

  • thankyou so much. it worked fine.

  • ty =]

  • awesome. thank you!

  • Doesn't work for me. What I'm doing wrong?

  • Thank you for this video. I've been trying to get my Brother printer to print more out of it's cartridge and the tape trick worked perfectly.

  • Thank you so much! I was getting streaks of toner down the sides of every page....troubleshooting up the yin yang. Did I need a new drum? The printer was less than a year old, blah, blah, blah. Turned out to be the generic toner cartridge. Luckily, I still had the original, put tape on it and I'm back in business!

  • Thank you so much. Really. I almost went out to buy the new cartridge for 50 bucks at BBuy.

How bad is this that this company tries to trick every customer like this???

    Once again, Thank you.

  • Thanks for posting, you are right it stops printing when the quality is still perfect for many pages to come! You are very generous in posting this video. I love the fact that you are not just saving us from unnecessary money spending but also from so much extra garbage, if our ink cartridges print twice as much, then we generate half the garbage! What you are doing is of great service.

  • I made the fatal mistake of trusting my printer to print a document the morning it was due, and this video saved me! Thank you! Way to stick it to brother!

I will buy you a beer if you wish. You win the internets!

  • Worked. Thanks!

  • It worked and the quality is still perfect, man thanks for posting!!!

  • Thanks for posting! I was just about to get a new one and came upon your video. Going to try the tape fix now.

  • can I trick my brother MFC-240c into believing that I put a new cartridge in it.

the error reads install yellow no matter what I do

  • I replaced my toner with a brand new toner cartridge and still got the toner out error. I used this tape up the sensor trick and new one worked. Kindof wished I didn't open the new one and used up the old one first. Thank you so much!!! Geeks like you make the internet so valuable!!!!

  • Thanks. Great idea.

  • Thank you so so much for posting this!! I knew my printer couldn't be out of toner, and that the printer company was trying to rip me off, but I didn't know how to trick the printer into realizing that the toner was not, in fact, out. Thank you very much for educating me! :D

  • Thank you so much!! ^__^

  • amazing. thank you!!

  • you sir are the man.

  • Thanks so much! I wondered why I needed toner when I hardly ever print anything. My son came over to help me order the new one and discovered your video. You saved me the trouble & expense of ordering, AND eliminated the delay before I can print. You are a hero to multitudes! (And as my son said, without the VIDEO, it would have been hard to figure out.)

  • I saw this video about a year ago while looking on the internet to buy new toner. One thousand pages later my toner is finally really dead. The error history of the printer (prints after pushing the blue button several times) puts it this way: "Page count: 1645. <error history (last 10 errors): 1: TONER LIFE END Page: 646" Apparenttly my toner virtually died 1000 pages before it actually did. And I still managed to print this report christal clear! THANKS!

  • Wow. Thanks bro for saving me some bucks. I was about to go to the market to buy a toner refill when I decided to search on how to refill the toners. I came across this and now I can print again. God Bless You!1

  • Worked for me. Look for two little clear windows about the size of a pencil eraser. Then use dark tape. My novel was half printed out and it is now finishing. Thanks!!!

  • Thanks a lot, my friend. It worked like a charm, and goes to show how big firms go out of their way to cheat us into buying long before it's needed. Many sincere regards from Denmark.

  • Thank you kind sir...more please!

  • You are such a legend. I discovered you vid as I was unsure how to even get to the toner cartridge to change it! Not only did your video teach me how to find and change my toner but how to save money. A very sincere thank-you!

  • Thanks so much for the tip! Works great!

  • You are amazing!!! Thanks for sharing this!!! :D

  • Ah, thank you so much!

  • I did this 10months ago. Finally replaced the cartridge today. Not sure at the exact count of extra pages I got out of the original cartridge, but I reckon I got over 1500.

  • you are awesome!!

  • Nice!...Thanks!

  • Legend, this absolutely works (down here in Oz too)! Thanks a heap :) What pricks Brother are for doing that in a world where we are supposed to be looking after the environment...

  • Works beautifully. Thanks!!

  • Thank you much sir!

  • Another happy printer. Thanks, pkok3!

  • I don't have a printer, no idea how I ended up here, but heeyooo, liked / favourite for a cool guy that helps people save cash.

  • Thank you sir

  • Nice job explaining and demonstrating! I could tell toner was left in my cartridge, but of course the printer won't print with the "toner LED" on - leaving us users "at the manufacturer's mercy." Since I've only had this printer a few months, and the claim on its TN360 cartridge is that it'll print 2600 copies, I was using the low-dpi + toner-saver modes AND tallying my copy count to verify that claim. Well, I only got to 900 copies; so I'm of course grateful to find your YouTube tutorial!

  • Thank you sooooo much for this video! I just added a new toner to the printer and it still was flashing low, which was frustrating! I looked everywhere and this video did the trick!

  • you're my hero. THANKS!

  • just tried it and it worked perfectly! thanks!! this will give me time to save some money to buy the toner when it actually runs out! :)

  • how many prints can toner do

  • WOW thanks a bunch dude

  • This works!!

  • "Don't buy a macaw. They're really loud." These are all pro-tips :)

  • This really works! Thanks for the tip!!!

  • You are amazing!!! Thank you SO much!

  • If you read the instructions for the printer you can see what you are actually supposed to do to override that problem instead of using tape...

  • Thanks a lot, Bro.

  • Thanx 4 the Tip. Do a video of your Macaw some day.

  • Just did this and it worked perfectly. What does Brother have to say about this video I wonder? Screwing consumers AND the environment in one shot. What a sad waste.

  • I'm having the same issue with you. Tried your method and it worked.

  • Fucking thank you!

  • Thanks mate, after about 1000 pages the toner-led flashed up. Now i'm going for another 1000 with the tape! :)))

  • yay!! thanks

  • Thanks man - you saved my ass!

  • Thanks for telling!

    God bless.

  • Saved my last minute presentation! You're awesome!!!! Thanks a bunch! :)

  • Brother "on my side" my ASS...

  • Wow man what a rip off that printer.

  • Man you rock :) Used clear tape and a thick paper to cover holes.

  • I just printed 170 more pages on my "empty" toner cartridge. Thanks!

  • Thank you very much.worked like magic

  • This fix worked as shown for this Philosophy major. Many thanks, friend. Good luck with whatever life throws at you.

  • Thanks so much. Worked like a charm. You have just saved me a lot of money.

  • can you put tape over the macaw?

  • @seejohnhere LMAO

  • Hey thanks for this. It works!

  • I did this to mine - and a shit load of pages out of it!

  • thx for this hint, it is awesome and really works. but only one question: since i used a tape to make my printer "blind", it smells strange and gets more hot while printing. i'm scared the printer is getting to hot and burns then....any experiences with that? pls help!

  • Thank you so much!!! I can't afford to buy a new cartridge and uni starts this week, and now I can continue to print. What a ripoff, asking you to buy a new cartridge at 600 sheets!!!! Thank you again :-)

  • Thanks so much! It really worked! :)

  • Great video! Just saved me some dough :)

  • This is absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much!!!

  • THANX MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • IT WORKS! Thank you for this video!!

  • @MAFive0 @KSBKmojo thank you for your stories! Stories like yours make me so glad I decided to take the time to make this video. I read every comment posted on here and smile every time I was able to help somebody avoid catastrophe. Thanks to everybody for watching!

  • @pkok3 I tried this and apparently I've not done it right b/c I still get the low toner message. I have the HL-3070CW but it looks like the cartridges are the same. I've only printed about 400 half-pages (invitations and envelopes) and it is already low toner. :( wish this had worked for me!

  • @pkok3 Hi I'm in Australia and have a (probably a dinosaur even though it's new!) MFC9120CN multifunction printer - colour. I've tried covering 2 dif holes, but to no avail. any hints please?

  • THANK YOU! It's Sunday night. All the stores are closed and I'm printing a bunch of documents for work that needs to be ready first thing on Monday . . . and the printer stops . . . toner needed. I remembered reading about your YouTube video so I watched it and followed your instructions. I worked like a charm. You saved me money and not having to explain why my documents weren't ready.

  • Great video!

  • Thanks dude!! You're freakin awesome!!

  • can you help me how to reset the drum of Brother DCP 7040..tnx

  • :P It work!.....and my printer is almost new ....No way that's a ''production problem'' since Brother didn't do anything in 2 years, all about money like usual...

    Anyway Thank! :P

  • I don't know if they modified something or what, but I couldn't get it to prevent the optical sensors from working. I thought maybe the tape wasn't opaque enough, so I used two pieces, but still got the empty light. I considered covering the actual sensors, but I was in a hurry to finish what I was doing. I'll see what happens next time.

  • it works!!

  • Sorry for my French but you are f@cking brilliant!!! Thank you so much!
