Always when I feel the need to just cry everything out, I listen to this or something from The Cure's Disintegration. The sad songs are the best ones.
this is amazingly beautiful; would've been perfect on "mellon collie"...a lot of their b-side songs have become favorites of mine: cherry, ugly, the infinite sadness...and now this lovely gem...
@shblck222 I can't see it working on Mellon Collie. Doesn't even fit Adore that well. This is certainly a one-off, and I love it. Not for the fair-weather Pumpkins fan though.
The lyrics to this one GREAT song could have easily been 5 okay songs. I am personally drawn to " i'll often speak of you
but the you was always me
'cause when i speak of me
it's me i ask of you" ~sighs~ I love this especially....BTW, who is the guy in the dark? I'm sure someone has already asked but I hate reading comments because I know some will surely piss me off.
@crazyexstacy actually i don't think anyone asked. but it's just me, no one special. i had this worthless clip that i just stretched out to this huge length and i was like "great now what's a GOOD song i can use?" and i remembered this song. a couple cuts later, and this existed.
This song always takes me back to 03' sittin in my backyard takin a couple of tokes and thinkin of what life had in store for me. " A child is who I was, A child is who I'll Die"
i love his songs that grow with the lyrics, the piano jus plays over and over and his lyrics distort its beauty...thirty three he did the same with, and best video they ever did.
you can tell that billy just wanted to say everything he could and wanted to in this song...it's so repetitious and long.. but, for example there's no "repeating chorus"...know what I mean? It's just 6 minutes and 40 seconds of him divulging his thoughts.
that's what struck me as so strange about this song at first, but you're right, and i love it.
i also really am fond of the very last chorus "I hope for resolution" and so on because of how, even though it fits, it's melodically different from the other verses.
So Beautiful. The Pumpkins have always pissed me off with their "hit and miss". I have been a fan since Gish (Rhinoceros my fave) but they have a lot of stuff I just can't listen to, to gay or slow or forced. Then they have THIS as a b-side as one of the most beautiful pieces of poetry and musically inspired. Hard to believe that only ONE guy writes it all, Billy must be bi-polar. I got this on Rotton apples, what album was it from originally, Melancholy?
This song is too good to have been written by a human. It's like it was channeled or something. Probably like 33, when Billy tuned his acoustic to a rare old country-type tuning. After strumming some basics chords, seeing what melodies grabbed him, he was suddenly struck by one of those epiphanies that seem strike him so often. Next, he said the words just "literally fell out of me" & that the entire thing was written in like 30 minutes or so. Lyrics, music, structure. It just 'came to him.'
definitivamente este video, no pudo quedar mejor con esos pequeños movimienos que haces de lado a lado.. sintiendo esta melancolica cancion,, asi como estas en el video escondido es como yo siempre escucho esta cancion... sola y en la obscuridad...
I spent a couple hours figuring it out and can play it on piano. Really only 2 sections. Email me and maybe I can put it on Finale/Sibelius and email it to you. Great song.
i will never forget the person who introduce me to this group... i will never forget how i felt as i listen to each of the songs he exposed me to. i will never forget how the words of billy corgan touched me in ways no other songs has. i will never forget it... especially how this song and the person who exposed me to this song go hand and hand... i am free to spread my wings thanks to him...
One of my favorites songs (if not the most) of the smashing pumpkins. But this song isn't that famous right, it's only on their latetst (with the original SP line-up) album ?
the only album you can buy it on is "Judas-Ø" which was the bonus disc to Rotten Apples, the Greatest Hits album from 2001 that was released after the initial break-up.
so, yeah, it wasn't too well known. but it's amazing.
i wish somebody put the piano sheet on ebay...or youtube "how to play"...i need to learn it, pleeeeaaaseee, no i am not that talented to catch it by ear :(
this song reminds me of being in music class high and putting it up through netphoria and reading the confessions, so long ago... drinking strawberry wine
The new shit doesnt suck :O. The Rose March, Tarantula, Neverlost, SuperChrist, Bleeding The Orchid, Starz, Bring The Light, Gossamer, all great songs. I love this song
well i'm glad someone can apapreciate it, but if you listen to the old stuff, even before MCIS... it's 100 times better. i mean p iscariot, essentially a b sides album, runs circles around the new stuff. i've been a fan since '93, seen them 18 times live, met billy 3 times... don't get the wrong idea and think i like sum 41. i just have the capacity to critize something i know well.
i don't have to save myself. but people that keep whining on how artists change n blah di blah are just annoying. i've also been a fan of the pumpkins since 93, to the point that i ended up working for them backstage for 6 months, n evenso i don't go bragging around saying i've got the "capacity to critize" just 'cos i've met them. everything changes and the past never returns, and that is exactly why memories are like a treasure box... don't get so fixed to the past, give them a chance
yes, it is a great song :D at least we can agree on something!! seriously no bad blood, just i really wanted to like them this time around... but i don't like the new lyrics and the music is mediocre at best. maybe their next album will be better. here's to hoping!!
Well I agree that the old stuff is a hell of a lot better, but still, I'm just happy they're back making music again. I was too young when they were touring in the original band, so I'm glad they're back around so i can catch them now. And while Zeitgiest was far from their best album, they still have time to set the world alight with their music again, and i have faith in Billy and Jimmy to do that. Maybe I'm the only one, but still, I'm optimistic about it
All I know is that thanks to the ZEITGEIST tour, I'm gonna see Billy live for the first time. I've dreamt about that since I was 11 & now I'm 25... I'm ever so happy :))))
Um, it doesnt matter who is in the smashing pumpkins. Billy Corgan makes and does everything concerning the songs and music. The bandmates are really only there for tours. Except for jimmy, billy needs an amazing drummer to make the songs great.
I've noticed that a lot of Pumpkins fans have commented that since SP reunited, it's not the same as it used to be. I think that every song all the way from "She" to "Stellar" has had a certain emotional element. Yes, it's disappointing that James and D'arcy didn't come back, but, as the old saying goes, "The music must go on." I think, in the long run, he doesn't need them. As long as he has Jimmy on board, SP will have everything they need to carry on.
my all time favorite SP song, thank you for uploading this! It's a shame this song wasn't officially released. This song confirms the fact that Billy is the worst horrible song selector for an official album release
