I'ts an extreme honor when a legend such as Doug is a guest in your home for a weekend and personally test drives your Steel! Honest truth...It indeed happend few years ago.
I've asked Joe Wright about this, okay, the pedals are set up Day or Emmons but the knee levers...when you can play like that no matter which, that is a great player. It isn't like a guitar, the tuning is the same, however, pedal steel is so personalized. That is impressive!
Just wondering if this is the same Doug Jernigan who was brought up in the Pensacola Florida area. Looks like him and has that smile. If he remembers Leroy Morris and Lynn Tony, then it's gotta be him! He was good back then. He's awesome now!
@andis59 I had a Sho-Bud once and funnily enough, mine sounded nothing like Lloyd Green's either! Do you think they sell us those guitars with a few of the 'special' chords missing? LOL
I would like to point out that he is not playing his own steel guitar. He plays a Zum. He is no doubt borrowing someone's steel guitar since he is playing in Canada and if you notice it is almost too high for him based on where his knees hit the knee levers. Yet, without any excuses the man simply tears it up!
Doug is one of the if not the BEST that ever touched a Bar,I have an album with Power in the Blood on it GOODNESS!, Doug BURNS IT UP!. He is not playing the Steel He was playing with it!. the Man is a total Pedal Steel Monster!,Thank You !.
Thanks HB1964. I know all this is just personal feelings, and I get almost "too much on my soapbox", on some of this stuff, but I just feel that fervently, sometimes about these players. Doug is such a great player, such a nice man, and probably because I just heard him last weekend in Arizona athe steel convention, he just dazzeled me with his playing. Thanks for the "thumbs up" and take care. Sincerely, Marc Trainor.
This is one of the best steel players that ever walked the face of this earth. I don't care what anybody thinks about that statement, and I still love my manin man Buddy Emmons, but, Doug is right up there with my "main man". He's just that good. Marc Trainor.

If you never heard the "Hillbilly Jazz" album... buy it right now. Doug burns the strings up, down, and sideways. He's a devil with a tone bar.

I first heard of Doug through Vassar's recordings. Tremendous work on "Hillbilly Jazz."
It would be great if more and longer clips of his performances were available.
