check animenewsnetwork for ratings. Deathnote is higher rated based off a bunch of ratings. I hadn't watched the one you mentioned though

I suppose it depends on which ratings you look at. Right now, Death Note is higher on animenewsnetwork but TTGL is higher on myanimelist. Generally, they both get ratings of about 8.9.

Of course, I could have just been posting a personal bias, since I don't really like Death Note much (it ruined AMV Hell 4 for me, at least)
