Indeed. There's also similarities between Orthodox Christians and Muslims. Both pray while kneeling to God, men wear beards (mostly priests), women wear head garments (only in churches), and we follow the old Bible with the initial teachings of Jesus.

I am not militant though and i have absolutely nothing against religious people. In fact most of my friends are very religious, including a Syrian buddy of mine. He taught me the true meaning of Islam - peace and understanding.
I love this music...I am a roman catholic but believe it or not I feel more like converting in to orthodox.... @syriano1946 Hi, actually, I think it's the other way around... Byzantine chants were the original chants being sung in the Middle East because Christianity came before Islam. Christian chants were derived from the original Jewish chants which are obviously Middle Eastern and use quarter tones. When Islam came about, it borrowed heavily from Christianity in the Middle East, and so ISLAM WAS INFLUENCED BY CHRISTIANITY. Even veils for women are taken from Christanity.
It doesn't matter which Church you belong too. As long as you believe in the One and only God. And believe in his word. Be good people and love thy neighbor as thyself. Arguing and hating each other is against the will of the Lord. Love him and so others the love he teaches. Don't create a separation from him by arguing whose church is better or the "right" one.

One church is the Church of Lord, because Lord found it,Roman catholic church was found by Bishop of Rome,Protestant church by Luter and so on, but that churches are not the Church of Lord, only orthodox Church is found by Lord personally....so it makes matter a lot my friend

As an eastern (Iraqi Chaldean) catholic, I must say that although at heart I have more tender feelings towards the Roman Catholic church, I find the tenets of Eastern Orthodoxy to be more spiritually profound, and more in synch with my personal exegesis of scripture in several regards.
Some of you say that the church does not matter, you say that what truly matters is that you follow Christ. Well, the church is the source of our personal growth. The church is what tells us how to lead our spiritual lives. Without the proper guidance of the true Christian faith we do not know how to lead a life towards Christ. Having Christ in our talk, and saying over and over again that we are following Him does not actually mean that we are. Through Orthodoxy we can follow the true teaching
About the talks of Orthodoxy vs. Western Christianity i think we should look into what Fr. Seraphim Rose says of "Modern Christianity" (Western Christianity). If you are Orthodox and claiming that unity with the West is what is needed, then i strongly suggest you look deeper into the Faith and see for yourself that the only way to stay within track of Truth is to keep things the way they were from the time of Christ. The only church that provides this, IS the Orthodox church.

Then after you understand the basics of how to be an Orthodox Christian you should pick what sect of Orthodoxy you want to be (Armenian Apostolic, Romanian Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Georgian Orthodox, Coptic, Greek Orthodox, etc.). I also suggest you look at the Society of St Pius x, The Fraternity of St Peter or The Institute of Christ the King the Sovereign Priest and their masses and gregorian chant before believing that the entire church believes in 'modern mass man crap'.

If u were attracted with Eastern RIte, you can just go to Eastern Catholic Church, there are so many Eastern Rite which in full communion with Rome. Their liturgical celebration has no differ. The only difference is, the first is full communion in One Body of Mystical Body of Christ, the other is not.
Dude no offense, but from a mythological standpoint, having a purgatory is much better, than not having it. In orthodox christianity, people/children who die without being baptised go to hell. The papacy didn't give sense to catholicism, nor did the patriarchy to orthodoxism. The saints did, the scholars did. Catch up a little on Dante Alighieri and Nicholas Kusanus.

@1macboo You have no idea what you are talking about. The Bible gives specific directions about appointing leaders in the church(1 Timothy 3:2). The Apostles themselves appointed bishops on their travels through the middle east and Anatolia. This is how we have the 4 ancient Patriarchs. Without order and Hierarchy there is chaos and the door is left wide open for heresy. Peace.

@1macboo The Orthodox Church is the unbroken Church. Our Patriarchs can trace their succession right down to the Apostles. The Orthodox Church doctrine has been the exact same since the fourth ecumenical Council in the 4th century. this is easily researched. The Orthodox Church does not have a Pope and we do not make up new doctrine like Catholics. The Orthodox Church is the true Church of Christ. Hopefully, you will see that one day. Peace.

@1macboo Jesus started the Church my friend. Go and pick your bible up and read it. The holy spirt descended on the apostles on the day of Pentecost. That was the start of the Church. The holy spirit has guided the Church since that day. We have an unbroken hierarchy, history and an untouched doctrine. Jesus favorite apostle Peter would not have chosen Bishops if he did not see the need for structure and Hierarchy. Peace.

Personally I am orthodox, and it gives me a strong connection to God and Jesus, to be able to follow traditions that have been arround for many centuries, dating back to the first is something i find very interesting(even tho everything might not be 100% the same). Some people are meant to experience God in a different light, and there is NOTHING wrong with that. To judge harshly like that is to be undignified of the eternal love of Christ, your own self-damnation
The schism happened because of a clash of beliefs, some followed the old traditions, some followed new ones. It is like that for a reason, to say the pope is the antichrist i myself find very offending (even tho i STRONGLY disagree with his ways). The judgment is up to God to undertake, not anyone on youtube or anywhere else as a matter of fact, doing so, makes you fail lesson #1 of christianity.
.. Its why they split in the first place, because their views of christianity differs. And they shall both remain apart forever. Its like saying, lets kill red and blue, and make one colour. Both colours are co-existing. The only thing we have to learn is to co-exist in peace, and that doesn't go for roman catholics and orthodoxs alone, it goes for everyone, of every faith and background.
Orthodox keep old traditions. Roman Catholics are more easy over the whole thing, which is open to debate wether it is good for todays society or not. Something that cannot be argued is, religion is far more than just a few prayers. It is many many many traditions that have been passed down for generations, which the roman catholic church seems to undermined immensly. The schism might stop one day, but if you think the Orthodox faith will unite with the Roman catholic keep dreaming...

As a catholic I see the progress in orthodox-catholic ecumenism with joy. In the distance there could even appear an end to the schism that cost Europe so much, keeping the orthodox structures intact and preserving them, even enriching the catholic church with it.
Im an orthodox christian, and it shames me to hear people slandering the Pope like this. Calling him the antichrist is a sin. Although i do not agree with him, or the Catholic church, he is still a holier man than any of us, especially since he does not stoop down to this level of name calling and ignorance. It is this kind of mindless insulting that caused the freat rift between the churches, and this ignorance that forbids a recovery. I pray we may move on, and that the Holy Spirit guides you.

While I disagree that calling the Bishop of Rome the antichrist, or any other name, is a sin. I do agree that it is behavior unworthy of anyone professing to be of the Christian faith. As an Orthodox Christian of the Greek persuasion, I do not acknowledge the infallibility of the Pope, nor do I believe that when he pontificates, he is speaking the words of the Holy Spirit.
Our patriarchs and the Patriarch of Rome (The Pope) are men. They are the administrators of God's church on earth.

Indeed. There's also similarities between Orthodox Christians and Muslims. Both pray while kneeling to God, men wear beards (mostly priests), women wear head garments (only in churches), and we follow the old Bible with the initial teachings of Jesus.

But after speaking with a catholic priest and a ortodhox archimandrite and reading some books of Fathers of the Church I realize something that maybe can help you in you spiritual searching: The Church is One, Catholic (universal), Holy and Apostolic. @syriano1946 Hi, actually, I think it's the other way around... Byzantine chants were the original chants being sung in the Middle East because Christianity came before Islam. Christian chants were derived from the original Jewish chants which are obviously Middle Eastern and use quarter tones. When Islam came about, it borrowed heavily from Christianity in the Middle East, and so ISLAM WAS INFLUENCED BY CHRISTIANITY. Even veils for women are taken from Christanity.

It doesn't matter which Church you belong too. As long as you believe in the One and only God. And believe in his word. Be good people and love thy neighbor as thyself. Arguing and hating each other is against the will of the Lord. Love him and so others the love he teaches. Don't create a separation from him by arguing whose church is better or the "right" one.

About the talks of Orthodoxy vs. Western Christianity i think we should look into what Fr. Seraphim Rose says of "Modern Christianity" (Western Christianity). If you are Orthodox and claiming that unity with the West is what is needed, then i strongly suggest you look deeper into the Faith and see for yourself that the only way to stay within track of Truth is to keep things the way they were from the time of Christ. The only church that provides this, IS the Orthodox church.

@ThaTruthSpeaker I suggest you start with the Eastern Orthodox Church (Byzantine Orthodox). Then after you understand the basics of how to be an Orthodox Christian you should pick what sect of Orthodoxy you want to be (Armenian Apostolic, Romanian Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Georgian Orthodox, Coptic, Greek Orthodox, etc.). This is a good start... Good luck (I am Serbian Orthodox). Remember always... God Wills it and ALL of the Orthodox churches are awesome!

@ImperialGuard9001 Forgive me for butting in but I suggest you study church history and a little theology before rejecting the Catholic church just because many in it no longer have a proper understanding of tradition. I also suggest you look at the Society of St Pius x, The Fraternity of St Peter or The Institute of Christ the King the Sovereign Priest and their masses and gregorian chant before believing that the entire church believes in 'modern mass man crap'.

If u were attracted with Eastern RIte, you can just go to Eastern Catholic Church, there are so many Eastern Rite which in full communion with Rome. Their liturgical celebration has no differ. The only difference is, the first is full communion in One Body of Mystical Body of Christ, the other is not.

Dude no offense, but from a mythological standpoint, having a purgatory is much better, than not having it. In orthodox christianity, people/children who die without being baptised go to hell. The papacy didn't give sense to catholicism, nor did the patriarchy to orthodoxism. The saints did, the scholars did. Catch up a little on Dante Alighieri and Nicholas Kusanus.

The Catholic separation from the Orthodoxy world, in the 800's A.D. allowed many other christian religions to form claiming to be the "the one and only" true religion to Christianity ... BLASPHEMY! As for MANY branches of christian churches out there, many have actually CHASTISED the many Orthodox churches based on its appearance, icons, and even people of Orthodox faith! @1macboo You have no idea what you are talking about. The Bible gives specific directions about appointing leaders in the church(1 Timothy 3:2). The Apostles themselves appointed bishops on their travels through the middle east and Anatolia. This is how we have the 4 ancient Patriarchs. Without order and Hierarchy there is chaos and the door is left wide open for heresy. Peace.

@1macboo The Orthodox Church is the unbroken Church. Our Patriarchs can trace their succession right down to the Apostles. The Orthodox Church doctrine has been the exact same since the fourth ecumenical Council in the 4th century. this is easily researched. The Orthodox Church does not have a Pope and we do not make up new doctrine like Catholics. The Orthodox Church is the true Church of Christ. Hopefully, you will see that one day. Peace.

@1macboo Jesus started the Church my friend. Go and pick your bible up and read it. The holy spirt descended on the apostles on the day of Pentecost. That was the start of the Church. The holy spirit has guided the Church since that day. We have an unbroken hierarchy, history and an untouched doctrine. Jesus favorite apostle Peter would not have chosen Bishops if he did not see the need for structure and Hierarchy. Peace.

Where, oh where can a wretch like me learn of Orthodoxy? Oh G*d how I have craved to at least have a faith that I know is the original faith. CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME?

Personally I am orthodox, and it gives me a strong connection to God and Jesus, to be able to follow traditions that have been arround for many centuries, dating back to the first is something i find very interesting(even tho everything might not be 100% the same). Some people are meant to experience God in a different light, and there is NOTHING wrong with that. To judge harshly like that is to be undignified of the eternal love of Christ, your own self-damnation

The schism happened because of a clash of beliefs, some followed the old traditions, some followed new ones. It is like that for a reason, to say the pope is the antichrist i myself find very offending (even tho i STRONGLY disagree with his ways). The judgment is up to God to undertake, not anyone on youtube or anywhere else as a matter of fact, doing so, makes you fail lesson #1 of christianity.

.. Its why they split in the first place, because their views of christianity differs. And they shall both remain apart forever. Its like saying, lets kill red and blue, and make one colour. Both colours are co-existing. The only thing we have to learn is to co-exist in peace, and that doesn't go for roman catholics and orthodoxs alone, it goes for everyone, of every faith and background.

Orthodox keep old traditions. Roman Catholics are more easy over the whole thing, which is open to debate wether it is good for todays society or not. Something that cannot be argued is, religion is far more than just a few prayers. It is many many many traditions that have been passed down for generations, which the roman catholic church seems to undermined immensly. The schism might stop one day, but if you think the Orthodox faith will unite with the Roman catholic keep dreaming...

I want to be an Orthodox but it is hard to become one because I'm a Catholic and I'm living in 90% catholic.

As a catholic I see the progress in orthodox-catholic ecumenism with joy. In the distance there could even appear an end to the schism that cost Europe so much, keeping the orthodox structures intact and preserving them, even enriching the catholic church with it.

Im an orthodox christian, and it shames me to hear people slandering the Pope like this. Calling him the antichrist is a sin. Although i do not agree with him, or the Catholic church, he is still a holier man than any of us, especially since he does not stoop down to this level of name calling and ignorance. It is this kind of mindless insulting that caused the freat rift between the churches, and this ignorance that forbids a recovery. I pray we may move on, and that the Holy Spirit guides you.

Ah he is so holy as he sits in his golden palace or his popemobile with bulletproof glass and promotes jesus' message that TOTALY goes agains hoarding of wealth and greed. The vatican is basicly slaughtering jesus' message. They are like the gangstra rappers of christianity with all their gold and silk haha.

While I disagree that calling the Bishop of Rome the antichrist, or any other name, is a sin. I do agree that it is behavior unworthy of anyone professing to be of the Christian faith. As an Orthodox Christian of the Greek persuasion, I do not acknowledge the infallibility of the Pope, nor do I believe that when he pontificates, he is speaking the words of the Holy Spirit.
Our patriarchs and the Patriarch of Rome (The Pope) are men. They are the administrators of God's church on earth.

You say that pope is still holier than any of us, but do you know that the pope is heretic and not only this...because I would have agreed with you if he was heretic, but men like us. He is teh head of an entire heretic doctrine that continue to spread like a desease, full of worldly poisons accepted by him. The pope is not the Church. We have only One Church and Jesus Christ is the head! Be christian! May God help you find the way!

@applepot52 Although some may call him that out of ignorance, the truth of the matter is that anything posing as Christ or of Christ, but not being so is an anti Christ. Any diversion from the Truth is falseness. When falseness proclaims itself Truth, does not not become a mockery? Is the anti-Christ not just that, a spiteful mockery? I'm not saying this with cruelty. This is simply theological fact. You should never water down your Faith in order to seem more politically correct.
