Paul Abbot created both. The US version is far more cinematic. And it's grittier. This is shot more like a soap opera, but I like it. Also , they seem way poorer in the US version.

So pardon my ignorance of the BBC - this show is/was aired for free in the UK, correct? In the states, only pay channels are able to air programs with profanity and nudity. Do shows like this air late at night with some kind of warning or rating system? Just wondering...

Don't attack me (for the love of cheese puffs) but I don't think the American version is that bad. And yes, I watched this version first, and yes I hate when Americans steal from England (like in the case of Skins) but at the same time it isn't bad. I watched the first twenty minutes of episode 1 and they got most of it right.

I think that the us and uk versions are very different and cannot be compared because you can clearly see the different backgrounds and if the producers/director/ actors of the us version are smart enough to evidentiate that than we've got a good show if not than the copy is not worth mentioning.
