Voting cards. Passports. ID cards. Birth certificates. School IDs. Hospital cards. NSSF cards. Employment cards. ETC. ETC. Does Kenya have the billions required to print all these cards? How about electronic consolidated cards?
"Na hiyo ni maendeleo"!!!!!!!! That method is good for voter registration na ikifika voting pia. transparent boxes can be used for the illeterate group. If you have got nothing to hide, yaani kama wewe si criminal, you shouldn't be worried!
No no no! This is just another way that Kenya is trying to sell Biometric data to America and Europe. Civil liberty at risk in the globalisation age!! This is a back door exercise, and I bet you either America or Britain is paying for this for their own reasons, not to ease voter registration in Kenya!! Kenyans ought to think ahead. How will an 18 yr old feel if he unfairly arrested and then 30 yrs on he can't get a visa to go anywhere because distant governments will view him as a criminal??
This is could be a very efficient way of voter registration but no way to vote. There isn't enough computer security out there to prevent manipulating the system given that voting is done in a single day.I am also concerned about the security of personal information which could be used for other purposes or as MzeeM1 just noted,SOLD.Biometric information also hinges on national security and the government should be better adviced how it may protect this database and what info may be fed into it
Yes you've made a very good point. There needs to be strong infrastructure before rolling this out.Whilst we are at this, maybe it would be worthwhile for Kenyans to comb trough the supposed constitution to see to what extent it protects the civil liberties of Kenyans. This I think is something that should be addressed. Also, the west is doing all it can to keep Africans away, even from accessing education. But what is Kenya doing inadvertently to support this continued oppression by external govts?
Exactly.Even as we should not trammel tech progress, it is pertinent we figure the full implications of their implementation. These technologies, retinal scans(which is superior to fingure print,65% accurate)has been in use in high security environments for years but there is a reason even the developed world are slow to roll them out for the entire population, and is got something to do with the fight against crime.Someone or some people in the GoK is(are)naive or not that smart
The video clip used in this clip is also not that accurate. The US electoral system is still by and large manual and there is a very strong opposition in computerizing the same.Obama actually spent close to an hour filling the electoral form as there are a plethora of issues to vote on in an US election.Bottom line, he did not vote electronically and NTV should desist from disseminating such misleading info
I love the idea - I would even add that if there's a way to track Mobile voting, let's just go straight into that and break new ground. That way, you don't need all those thousands of returning officers and transport costs involved in delivering and collecting all the votes cast - alas.... rigging would be a tad more difficult.
Please let us not fly before we can walk, this is a technology that will cost millions of shillings that we dont have. I see nothing wrong with the old system, we just need to streamline it so that it works better, it is still being used here in the UK. we need to build better schools and hospitals first before we can have a first class voting system that may not even work since most Kenyans are computer illiterate. It never even works better in America remember how bush won first time?
once again, if the political class will not eat anything from this project, they will definitely reject it...Kenya, a country operating in the middle ages...damn

Kenya is not ready for the technology route in making things happen for the better. We needs a transparent ballot box for this.

biometrics, dna, bells & whistles all is necessary
but first, reduce the 'political workforce' by 80 percent. the country can do with very few 'politicians'.
