Panhandlers beg for money. Metal detectorists work hard at finding money that people have lost. Big difference. You should have asked him what else he found that day, or what his best finds of all time are. You probably would have been shocked. I've found gold and silver jewelry, old silver coins, and lots of other interesting and valuable stuff. So, don't knock the hobby if you don't know anything about it, because it just makes you look ignorant.
