Not to discredit the new actor, but the way David put Doctor Who down is the only reason I liked the show. If the new actor can't fill the energetic, crazy role it'll be the end of my Dr Who fan era methinks.
That being said I've only watched season 1-4 and I don't know any other doctor than Tennant or Eccleston.
Alas poor Aero089, you've missed a few amazing Doctors. Take it from someone who has seen them all. Yes, Tennant is probably the best one yet, but who knows, the best maybe yet to come. I will be watching.
