There is a wonderful recording of this work (made in the early 70s) featuring the Vienna Philharmonic (in which Schmidt had been a cellist) conducted by Zubin Mehta. It's available either on a single disc, coupled with Schoenberg's First Chamber Symphony, or as part of a twofer with Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony.
Failing that, the recordings by Franz Welser-Moest and Yakov Kreizburg are worth having.
Indeed this is Beautiful Music, and again i am surprised ,
but still i think i am lucky that i have found this opera and that i can listen to a recording,
why this opera is almost forgotten is realy a secret for me,
thank you for putting this music overhere and hope more and more people will enjoy his music .

Just listen to the amazing orchestration! (There's some wonderful writing for the bass clarinet.)

No comments on this yet?
What a shame that the genius of Franz Schmidt is still so little acknowledged (or even known about).

@JekyllBoote I just heard his fourth symphony in a live broadcast of the San Francisco Symphony and was spellbound
