you said it was nothing but flipping and bending their spines in half, ya and i said sure coming from someone who's just jealous of the talent and hard work they did that you could never do
This is a weird debate because; dance is SUPPOSE to tell a story using the skills that you do. Gymnasts do what they do for power, precision, and to be judged. Gymnasts aren't supposed to be telling a story, they're suppose to be perfect. In a dance you don't get deducted if your turn wasn't all the way on releve, or if you overstepped coming out of your leap. They're both equally hard, but completely different.
Gymnastics is about feelin great about achievin somethin like ur very first backwalkover and ur back tuck etc but everybody is sayin ballet is elegant but for the the ballerina inside, there thinkin i just want to get this over with and feel like stompin around because of practrisin so much i should no cause im and 11 yr old qymnast and i feel good when i achieve my tumbling thumbs up pleaz

@XxtwilightxX45 I don't agree with gymnastics only being flips and back bends. It is passion, because every sport you need passion to strive for perfection and to achieve your goals. And there are 7 types of gymnastics, including artistic gymnastics for males. Some gymnasts (like the gymnast in the 60's - 80's and Nastia Liukin f.x.) had beautiful and gorgeous lines. For me gymnastics is a perfectionist sport while ballet is more of an artform, where you need perfection, passion and beauty.
@amigozz4l very very late reply here, i totally agree with you now. i tryed gymnastics after watching all these videos. and its so much like ballet but so different and I LOVE IT
@XxtwilightxX45 That is so disrespectful to all the gymnasts out there who put their blood and sweat into perfecting their routine, just like ballet dancers. I agree that ballet is harder, because you have to make it look easy, but that's no reason to belittle gymnastics:(
@XxtwilightxX45 Nothing in the world has ever been accomplished without passion. Think before you post/say anything about gymnastics not requiring passion. -_-
You can´t compare gymnastics, RG and ballet because the 3 are very different and beautiful; a lot people are sayin that in ballet you have to be more than just a ballerina an actress and the performing magic, but maybe you just cant get that the gymnastics can be that passionate and perfect, gymnastic and RG are magic and wonderful as ballet maybe is just that yo havent felt it yet, the 2 requieres a lot of wish and work...by the way im a ballerina and a gymnast feelin the same passion 4 both(:
ballet all the way!!! you have to do everything gymnasts do!!!!! ALSO, you have to put grace into it!!!!!! plus you hurt ur feet by going en pointe!!! on top of all that, you have to stay in character and tell a story!!!
no offense to artistic gymnasts but it is kinda gross. it should just be called body contortion. ballet is so much deeper and passionate. Ballerinas take all the strength and flexibility and make it look beautifully befforless. gymnastics looks forced and strained.
@lovlyanime Yes, in artistic gymnsatics you compete on balance beam, uneven bars, floor exercise and on vault. In rhythmic gymnastics you compete on floor with ribbon, hoop, clubs, rope and a ball and the exercises consist of flexibility rather than tumbling and power. Also you can compete with a team but artistic gymnastics is more of a individual type of gymnastics :)
@Gymnasticseverywhere I'm not comparing ballet and gymnastics in this montage ;) I originally made this when I was first doing YouTube videos. This was made for my friend who did ballet and myself, but I don't even do artistic gymnastics so it's not like I can even compare these two sports! These sports both deserve respect, these athletes are tougher than many sports you can compete as a professional!
Ballet ftw. Gymnastics is more about technicality. To me... ah well... gymnastics is kinda boring if it doesn't freak you out a bit. Ballet is more about the stage... the feel and the act... The moves just make it a lot cooler. You have to BE the character. Most of the best gymnasts are probably really talented or flexible already. But in ballet, you require more... Your body, your looks, your flexibility, your strength and stamina both mentally and physically. ENDURANCE.
i dunno... i think u can hardly compare the both. i mean ballet is more artistic cuz u gotta dance on points which u shouldnt underestimate, act and hide the effort and be completely 'lost' in your role which is extremely hard. but on the other hand i, as a ballet dancer, couldn't ever do those salti on a balance beam without crashing my bones out. i like dancing more cuz to me its the more elegant, graceful art but no one who just does one of the both could ever judge which one's harder.
ballet isnt so much a sport, i would hardly call it that but an art form. ballet requires you to look beautfiul, keep techinque, and act on stage. dancers are on stage for a prolongued period of time whereas gymnasts have one routine (sorry if thats not the right word). but they are very different, i think they are equally hard especially rhythmic gymnasts with the props. they are both beautiful in their own way.
gymnastic is a sport, it is undiniably very hard, and i mean duh!! it goes with the oympics!! but ballet is an art form. performing arts, ballerinas are artist not athlets unlike gymists....
slso dancing is acting, i mean like every ballerina has the natural fire like Kitri or the automatic lovableness of Giselle! lol so i think they are both amazing!!!!! also ballet isnt about how high ur leg can go, or how many turn you can do, or how big your arch is...it is about the beauty that radiates from your body when you dance, and being the camillion to change roles easily, and gracefully, gym is about the wow factor, lets face it...
they r both hard. Ive done gymnastics for 3-4 years but has done ballet all my life. Ballet requires some gymnastics gymnastics require some ballet. They r different. But require similar things. Flexibility Strenght Gracefulness. They both r pretty much the same. Both r Do It Right or Get injured
@amigozz4l oh noo! ballet is art! you know the names of arts : music dance painting sing etc.... ballet is dance and of course it isn't sport..thats why it isn't in the olympics!
@marakisweety but it's still a sport! you need strength, power, stamania and dedication to do ballet. and yes it is art. but ballet is far more than just a sport or art! and not all sports are in the olympics ;)
@marakisweety dancing SHOULD be in the olympics, but it's so broad and there are so many things to judge. the other thing is interpretation. the dancer may interpret a song one way while the judge takes it another, and if they dont see it the same way, the dancer could be scored low. it would have to become regulated and less free if it became a sport. but it's still just as difficult to be the best of the best in ballet as any other sport
@emo2theheart Ballet is a sport that requires alot of hard work and you do the same but in ballet you can go to Broadway and play in amazing plays and gymnastics u just go to the Olympics.
@DanceGurl7099 You're right. In ballet you become a professional dancer, that's why they don't have ballet as a sport in the Olympics, because you can't compete if you're a professional athlete. But a ballet dancer couldn't do the skills on some apparatus like the gymnast and the gymnast couldn't perform the ballet like ballet dancers...
BALLET!! You can express A LOT of your emotions and beauty in ballet. I did gymnastics for a little bit but I didn't like it. It wasn't fun for me. But I tried ballet and it was SUPER FUN!!!
not to offend any one but i think ballet is harder only maybe because i am a ballet dancer and ive been doing it since i was 3 and now im15 but ive also done gymnastics and i just never saw it a challege it is hard dont get me rong it just i would choose ballet ot alot of people can do 3 and 4 shows in a row on point and smile every night
you're right. ballet is more like a show sport, you know? their hair is always fancy, their toes always pointed, their dress always perfect and so on! gymnastics is more like a tecnique by controlling faster and more powerful mover, not that ballet isnt strong and powerful ;) they are two diffrent sports and i think no one should compare them unless they know them both like the back of their palms!! ;)
I love dancing and I love gymnastics. But, I think that ballet is something completely more than a sport. Ballet has the ability to take you into a fantasy world with romance, passion and adventure that gymnastics just can't take you. I'm not saying that gymnastics can't be artistic or isn't worthwhile, but I feel that a floor routine, the most expressive of the apparatuses, cannot transport you into a story, you cannot lose yourself in the emotion or passion.
you're right, gymnastics more a 'WOW' sport, but this isn't a ballet vs. gymnastics it was a montage i made for me and my friend but dont get me wrong i really appreciate your comment ;) but rhythmic gymnastics more like ballet than artistic, i really like ballet though ;)
I would just like to say that I dance ballet and did gymnastics and they were both very challenging. Gymnastics shows a lot of the effort the gymnasts have, ballet you try to hide your effort as much as possible. We have a rhythmic gymnast in our class of ballet and she tells us how different yet still challenging it is.
i think the opossite...i think that ballet is harder...u have to be not only a dancer...u have to be and an actress,,,u have to stand up on ur tips of ur toes...and u have to hide all the difficulty and the strenght that it needs...!!!!!!! and some other reasons that i can't explain because i'm grom Greece and i don't know so much English....
you said it was nothing but flipping and bending their spines in half, ya and i said sure coming from someone who's just jealous of the talent and hard work they did that you could never do
