Great looking car and I kick myself for not buying one a few years ago. I was so into 60s and 70s muscle car I didnt look at the future collector cars. The one I looked at needed paint and decals I passed on it for $1000....Still kicking myself.
@winningcirclemedia i think all fixed and depending on condition( i could be wrong) but around 2500-5000 possibly. The trim does matter in the price weather its a ghia or a 302 ect...
my gramp was gonna buy one of these, he took it for a test drive, and a truck blew through a red and hit him, 14 stiches in his head and totalled the car.
This isn't your typical mustang folks this is a rare bird. All pace cars are and if you have an officail pace car from a nascar or indy event hold onto it because they will be worth a lot of money one day. What he is asking for it is def a fair price.
@darktrouter301 Yes, that is what I want to know. Not a real collectible car if you ask me. When I was a kid my friend had one of these (though he had the V8 version) and we had a LOT of fun in it driving around in the Pocono mountains with it. He ended up totaling it.
@darktrouter301 We drove it around mostly in the Bushkill falls area. There are a lot of curvy roads and we would be out till 3am twisting and turning through those curvesl Those were the days (87-88)
solo 105 millas this i think is the only mustang at this conditions, all new, all original, i'm a colombian guy so pleas use a traductor or something because this is a berry good car that i can't descrive better in english " es un auto favuloso parece sacado de tienda solo que tiene 31 años pero igual sigue nuevo, mi padre tuvo uno igual turbocargado y en mi opinion un motor de 4 cilindros turbocargado que ofrece casi la misma potencia de un motor v8 y que consuma menos es una maravilla.
@mikesteen1000 The very first of an approximate of 11,000 1979 Ford Mustang Pace Cars got a factory-tuned small-block Ford 302 with a likely prospect of fuel injection and possibly a Paxton supercharger from the 1968 Shelby GT-350. That first example was used for Pace Car duty at that year's Indy 500.
Very nice car man, too bad you had to sell it. Hope someone got it who will enjoy it and not rip it to shreads. If I would have bought it, it would get more miles. Cars are built to drive. It would have only been a sunday curiser though. Thanks for the post.
This is not a real pace car! The real pace car had an 5.0 L V 8. With a sun roof lether raped steering wheel (with Cruise) and Recaro Bucket seets. This is a 4 Banger turbo with stickers added to it.
The real original Indy Pace car wasn't a 4 banger turbo but a V-8 5.0 L with Lether rap wheel. BS on the wheel mine was lether rap with cruise. This is Not an official pace car its just had stickers and a body kit added.
that izz amazing, my dad bought me one of these for my 16th birthday, but its nothing compared to this one, has alot of work still needed to be put into it, previous owner misstored it....left out over winters and such ):
I owned a 79 pace car in high school (1985). I bought it for $5,000. Worth every penny. I miss it. It was a 302 and while only had 145 HP, it sounded fast. My friends had a 79 Trans Am 6.6 and a Camaro Z28. All with about the same horsepower. We used to drag race down a major street. It was fun and pathetic because they were all so slow by todays standards. I miss her.
I just bought one like this for 18k. Never street drive 43 miles. Equipped and painted identical to this one. Sticker price on mine shows $10,035. Freight charge was a bit more. It shipped to a Bill Austin Ford in Miami.
amazing....! love the 1979 pace car! i'd love to find a clean gem someday! i've owned around 100 mustangs & this is my favorite fox-body, hands down. i recently sold a 1984'1/2 gt350 1 owner convertible that the owner replaced the front end with the pacecar front clip. he had a hanger full of svo's, mcclearns & turbo cars! someday i'll put all my money in one car and get something all original. but, i keep my 3 car garage "TOYBOX" full. the projects keep me busy & it doesn't feel like work! 5*
I had an 81 white notcheback turbo pacecar. I belt sanded the ponies off the side and painted it blue in 90 when it was passed down to me. What a mistake. I still cant find anything about the 81 pacecar. I did see an article a few years back in a stang magazine saying it was the one of the rarest mustangs.
So what is the story behind this car, does anyone know? Was it deliberatley salted away as an investment, or did something tragic happen to the original owner?
That sure brings back memories - I had one just like it. I traded it in for a brand new 89 Mustang - the stupidest thing I ever did. If I had an extra 20 G's, I would buy it. You should keep it though, that is a real treasure you have there.
So are you selling it for msrp or below? lol jk... Beautiful car. Not sure if you mentioned this I didn't watch it all but how much are you asking? Good luck with the sale.
Hi, Thanks for your interest. Well I would like to get in the low to mid $20's for the car but all offers will be really considered seeing as I want to sell it quickley. So anyone feel free make an offer. Just pick up the phone and call me 570-875-7109 to discuss price and offers. Thanks, Marty
Marty, I love that video. The buzzer reminds me of our 1986 Ford Mustang LX with the 3.8-liter V6. I have a video about the history of the Fox Body Ford Mustang from 1979 to 1993. Sorry about the music, though. Click on my YouTube user name and it will take you to my videos.
Hi, everyone YEs the 105 mile pace car is for sale again. I took it back in a trade for another rare ultra low milage Mustang I had with cash of course. So yes it is for sale again as of 08/20/08. If anyone is interested or has any questions please emaiol or better yet call me at 570-875-7109. Thanks, Marty
Beautiful,Pristine mustang you have there. Sounds as good as is it looks. That has to be the lowest mileage Pace car I've seen. The price tag is well worth penny.

The reason you can't find anything on it is because IT WASN'T A PACE CAR. The 1981 Indy pace car was a BUICK REGAL, not a Mustang.
