  • I'd describe this song as... mischievous. Just like a Cheshire Cat. I can't help but make a really silly grin.

  • @DeftCrowMk3 And I thought I was the weird 1? Grin included here my friend.

  • Rush should finish it's legacy by making boss music for the next Mistwalker game.

  • @salasvalor01 Finish?! D: nono... the whole point of a legacy is for it to carry on :L

  • @guitarrich92 Exactly, carry on a finished legacy. Rush's legacy ends when they end- it's theirs.

  • Probably a stupid question, but where are the other parts ? I can't find them in the discography... is it just a funny title ?

  • @Longlivethe4th Yeah, it's part 4 of a trilogy, so it doesn't make sense. If you listen to the following 3 instrumentals in reverse order, it sort of sounds like they would be the other parts.

  • @Longlivethe4th Yeah, it was meant as a joke to be "part 4" of the Gangster of Boats "trilogy". I'm not really sure what they are referring to for the "Gangster of Boats" thing but in all the research and digging I've done, they haven't said anything in interviews. But, don't feel like the only one. I made the same mistake too before smacking myself upside the head thinking "Dammit! The holy triumvirate got me again!"

  • @RushFanatic87 ok, thanks both and praise the holy triumvirate.

  • I must learn this song one day.

Just kidding - these three are the only ones who can play it!

  • Peart, Lifeson and Lee are phenomenal masters of cross-culture sound. And they're not afraid to go against the grain. Definitely, as you stated, southport: "... not even in the same galaxy!" Happy Trails.

  • You know you're in deep shit when the instrumental is the best song on the album folks.

  • @karlmoles65 This song is very good, but Dreamline and Ghost of a Chance are much better

  • @Dillbob1 Well considering those are the only three songs on the album I like I think I'll have to agree.

  • 1. YYZ

    2. Where's My Thing?

    3. La Villa Strangiato

    4. Leave that thing alone.

  • @southport97 lolzzzzz

  • @southport97 La Villa is like the greatest Rock instrumental ever. This isn't even in the same galaxy.

  • Anybody here listen to Porcupine Tree aswell? For those of you who dont know, Alex Lifeson played the solo on "Anesthetize", nothing better than hearing your 2 favourite bands collaborate, and although 2 totally different bands, its nice to see them tie up in the same genre, Alex is a genius, Geddy is quality, Neil is what got me started with music! I love these guys..

  • Fucking awesome.

  • Oh, and 2 people who disliked this video have no 'things' to wonder where they are...

  • I think I just exploded.

The weirdest part: I LOVED IT!!!

  • @SenorSpode May I humbly offer, watching them April of last year, this grown man states yes I shed massive tears, taught little 1 beside me who these guys are? Canadian they are? Check Time Machine? Alex wore flannel shirt in red-neck country, just to appease us? I could offer further comment, however?????

  • @superunt43 You shall, kind sir. I, too, made the pilgrimage this July 2, to the humble venue known as "The Gorge" in Washington state, for their tour closer. Kindly accept a beer from my fridge!

  • @SenorSpode Thank you my friend, kindly accept I will, Molson or? LOL. May I humbly offer witnessing "Camera Eye" "Witch-hunt" live was something to behold. Watched these guys for 30 years I have here & in Ontario, first chance I had to watch both songs live. Speak of humble venues, saw them in Ontario years ago, place wouldn't seat 3,000? Burned the place down they did, not literally, LMAO.

  • i wonder where that thing did go.

  • Love the sound of the snare.

  • Thumbs up if you would love to see them play this song on the next Tour!

  • my thing is in my pants...

  • ... I want to hear the rest of the trilogy.

  • @DanTheManCalter Though not official, it has been suggested that leave that thing alone, limbo, and the main monkey buisness are parts 3,2,and 1. When you think about it their sounds match up part to part

  • Royal Rumble 1992

  • "Where's My Thing?" is my 2nd FAV Rush instrumental, behind "YYZ". It rocks!

  • Kellypridgon_com2

  • The Boys rock...

  • I love my thing.

  • @BetterTasteThanU ...I seriously hope you are not calling RUSH "overrated".

Please don't make this personal but I'm going to tell you something.

I'm a typical 38yr old black man who listened to Hip Hop and Gospel music. I could care less for rock back in 1992 my roommate played RUSH! HOLY CRAPOLA MOTHER OF DRUMMERS! NIEL PEART MADE ME A FAN! The musical skill (hold on, gotta jam to this real quick)....okay, I'm back!.....but 20yrs later, I like everything Yngwie Malmsteen to The Killers.

  • @navyman4 "Those who wish to be must put aside the alienation, get on with the fascination the real relation, the underlying theme" ...It does´nt matter if you´re from a different culture or from a different race, it don´t matter if you´re like certain genre different than mine... If what i like makes you happy, and vice-versa you´re always free and very welcome to share your experience... Besides, diversity is what always makes great bands come to life! Best regards from Brazil!

  • @BetterTasteThanU ..If you are INDEED calling RUSH "overrated", let me tell you something buddy!!

ANYTIME A SONG CAN TAKE YOU TO ANOTHER WORLD:

    1. Without Drugs

    2. Without Alchohol

    3. Without a rocket

    4. Without leaving the ground

    5. but WITH my eyes closed I get there faster..

You are hearing a masterpiece that appeals to all cultures, all backgrounds, and all tastes.

The BASS, the vocals, the guitars rifs, the dru..dru...dru..Oh Lord I cant type Neil's instrument without almost Eargasming!

  • @navyman4 Indeed my friend, indeed. I could not have said it better? You for all intent summed up my thoughts. 3 guys ride around and make life better for all of us, do they not?

  • @navyman4 You, my friend, RULE. Please accept all the beers out of my fridge!

  • Actually it's from 1991.

  • Is it just me or does Neil have his snare drum tuned higher than normal for this album? Like he almost has that Stewart Copeland crack to it.

  • @ilikehairbands It almost sounds to me like an electronic drum sound. He was getting pretty big into sequencers, click tracks and the electronic setup around this time. On the other hand, you could be right. The snare DOES have a nice, tight CRACK to it.

  • essa música faz o cara viaja pra mtoo longe q doidera ehehe

  • another underrated rush song...

  • They're such skilled musicians it's awe inspiring :)

  • I remember this played at the end of Royal Rumble 1992. Shame WWE have changed the theme on the DVD.

  • Don't ever let anyone tell you that today's music is better than what was written back then, this is epic.

  • @SuperUltimateSean anybody who says that is so stupid, they probably cant find their own thing.

  • @SuperUltimateSean This song is from 1990, that's 21 years ago, Tom Sawyer is a RUSH classic, from 1980, Finding My Way, Working Man from 1974

  • Needs more cowbell....

  • Neil really lives it up on this track

  • Only decent song from the album

  • I was disappointed when I saw them during the Time Machine Tour...they didn't play one song from Roll The Bones! That's one of my favorite albums:(

  • @BigLotz15 Same! I wanted them to play this, Ghost of a Chance, or Roll The Bones... but no dice!

  • @BigLotz15 They played one or two at my show, SUMMERFEST

  • GREAT SONG!!!!!!

  • WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

  • The one guy who disliked this video is not smoking some weird shit

  • @TheLightbender12 Actually, he was probably smoking his socks. Ew.

  • i saw this tour and this song live...awesome!!!

  • Listen too that EPIC ! space opening up at 37 seconds and at various points in the music. Just amazing how they ( Rush ) can fill your minds eye with this zenith like space and 360 degree panoramic scope...If you dont like Rush then I don't think we'll get on to be honest...G...

  • goofy song but cool

  • This is one of their best and most experimental instrumentals. I'm torn between this YYZ and Leave That Thing Alone. They are all epic.

  • @southport97

    shit, Limbo too

  • Oops! I meant to say "bring this song back to live p[erformances". Sorry for the typo.

  • I hope Rush brings this song to live performances. This and more songs from "Roll The Bones" during next year's tour, if there is one.

  • @TheMusicGuy88 Next years tour? I can't see them touring in 2012 after already having been on tour for almost 2 years but I hope they do. Saw them last week and they were outstanding.

  • @irena7777777 2012 they release Clockwork Angels... so they might do some tour for promoting that album, even if it's just a "small" tour.

  • @BlastHardRock Hope so, it'd be great to see them again.

  • go rush

  • I have eight other tabs of Rush songs open right now and this is the first one with a dislike haha not a bad streak

  • I'm glad this album is finally getting praise. I remember when it was first relased and the "title song" was the primary target of ridicule. While I agree the title song is a rather generic pop song, the rest of the album is pretty damn good.

Especially this song and Ghost of a Chance.

Ghost of a Chance was one of their last top ten songs. Ghost to show the ablum was not as underrated as most want to believe.

  • Anyone who would comment about Rush that they are "atheist creeps" is failing to live by his own religious tenets. Very nice. Is your family descended from witch burners? Rush knew how to put those hypocrites in their place, too.

The fact is, atheism is far more reasonable to believe than your religious nonsense.

  • @peacefuljeffrey While I agree totally about throwing judgement at others sucks balls, not sure about the reasonable thing....kinda like believing you car was assembled by nobody. You don't see the manufacturing of it, it just shows up to the car lots....And Rush rocks....thatis all.

  • this just a funky sort of jam alotta fun listen to.....

  • it makes me want to go on a chase

  • really slapping the bass lol what a song tho :)

  • I love this album. Such an underrated band

  • Would really like to see this return to the setlists, if only for hearing it done with even more swing (of the pre-T4E songs, this one probably has the most swing drum part).

  • A lot of mid to late 80's instrumentals were an influence or vice versa Paul Harcastle?

  • humms, as to soothe a grandchild's heart and solace

  • @squibbsbear Those degenerate, atheistic Commies!

  • @squibbsbear what an enlightened comment.

My guess is that you'd have been the first to throw a stone in the parable as well.

    Hypocrite.

  • @squibbsbear lol what difference does it make?

are you one of those weak pussies, that look to songs for spiritual guidance? can't accept others opinions? think that bands like rush are out to destroy the world? and your children?

is it that wrong to have an opinion other than yours?

by they way, you are probably dead wrong....you just seem like an idiot

  • @squibbsbear

who says you have to like them as people to enjoy their music?

  • Good stuff!

  • Great

  • I always think of this song as one that has awesome riffs for lyrics ... specially the part I always think as the verse

  • Ric Flair with the belt ;)

  • this album and presto had no bass to any of the songs...

  • i love the animation playing behind this during time machine tour

  • The whole "Part IV, "Gangster Of Boats Trillogy"" thing was a joke. There never were any previous "parts" to the supposed trillogy. It's all a gag.

  • I can see why this song didn't win a grammy compared to cliffs of dover, but how the hell did YYZ not get the best instrumental.

  • It reminds me a little of "Telstar" by the Tornados that was done in 1962.

  • NEIL

  • 'pt. 4 where's my thing? gangster of a boat trilogy' or something like that

  • I remember this being played during the closing credits of the WWF's 1992 Royal Rumble. Great Song

  • @ThePresident45 :O really?

  • @ThePresident45 That's the first time I heard that too, of course it took me almost 20 years to figure out who played this song because I was 6 year old when that Royal Rumble happened lol.

  • Loving this, reminds me of jamming on a tuesday night with Babylon 5 on in the background early 1990's; anyone else feeling that? Oh yeah!

  • YYZ is my fav I dunno why it just gets me REALLY into it

  • Who is the one person that clicked the thumbs down button?

  • @biantai888 They just missed, because it is impossible not to appreciate the musical talent in Rush.

  • Watch!!!! Don't waste your life, godammit

  • This is my personal favourite of Rush's instrumentals. "Leave That Thing Alone" and "Limbo" certainly come close though :)

  • isnt "leave that thing alone" part two of this song?

  • who else could describe so easily on the musical scale the joy of being here and now and fucking winning too goddamnit?

  • Love it! Thanks a lot! Put a thumbs up if you think

  • the one person who disliked this needs to figure out where his thing is for good music

  • at 0:40 i feel such an extasis... i unique sensation that lift me above the stars... i see myself playing drums on space... leaving all darkness behind me ...

  • roll the bones is rush's born again album. they faded in the 80's like now!

  • @MeYouView the didnt even come close to fading...

  • @MeYouView rush never faded and never will!!!!!

  • @MeYouView

70's Rush is a tough act to follow.

  • @JonP1961

Rush in any era is a tough act to follow lol

  • This and counterparts is an era of Rush that is far too often over looked.

  • @diazcamille Sadly, this is true. I would go out further and call Rush's Era #4 (Presto > RTB > Counterparts > Test for Echo) the one that doesn't get the love it deserves. Even though Counterparts was #2 and their highest charted even better than Moving Pictures, it's either era #2 from Permanent Waves to Signals or the newer stuff that sadly gets the priority on their live setlists and gets most talked about anywhere. What was wrong with Rush's stuff in the 90s?! NOTHING! It's all good!

  • where is it? look in Geddy Lees @#$

  • @BetterTasteThanU bend over geddy lee wants a sythasizer XD

  • I loke progressive rock because they know how to use a bass! most bands now days , you can't even here the bass.

  • YYZ rocks! So does this.

  • Here in Chile, this music is used as a theme for a radio show called "minute 88.9" where they talk about football (US soccer). It is said they are coming here in October. Hopefully, I'll be there if it happens

  • @dorsh24 Futuro, la radio del rock. La única radio que importa en Chile.

  • en chile conchemimareeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @vivaelrock34 ¿confirmado en octubre, verdad? WEEEEEEENNNNAAAAAA!!!!!!

  • Now, what is this mysterious thing? Apparently, we are supposed to leave it alone, despite wondering where it is.

  • I know where my thing is. :O

  • holy horse cocks this song is good

  • @RelapseGalore55 ahahhaa its love :p adding you nigga ass

  • lista Trójki

  • best instrumental ever written

  • @HollowLiquidProjects but i digress. leave that thing alone!

  • I just wish they would play this song more in concert and give it it's PROPER due!!!

  • Let's get ready to rumble...

  • Mine is in neighbor's wife's mouth right now...OH SWEET HEAVEN

  • @DrBojayGupta lol

  • I thought they chose Cliffs of Dover over this because Eric Johnson's guitarwork was truly astounding, and took many, many years to master, whereas this can be created on Garageband on a mac.

  • LOL. I love EJ and Cliffs of Dover but man you are fucking out of you mind to make a Garageband Mac comment about this brilliant song.

  • lol I'm pretty sure any given member of Rush has more chops and songwriting ability in one toenail than you or any retarded band you like has in their entire bodies, combined. So talent is definitely not a factor in why Rush wouldn't win something.

  • Eric Johnson? Lol, what kind of talent does he possibly acquire? Oh God he made a simple guitar solo song and got popular from Guitar Hero! Isn't he just the fucking master! Listen to the song La Villa Strangiato, and finally realize what creative, compelling, and talented guitar work actually is.

  • @stallionplaya52 Word. Check my channel for my guitarist La Villa Strangiato cover on U-Tube if you want a close up on what Alex is playing.

  • @stallionplaya52 Eric Johnson is a very talented guitarist who has won many awards in the past.... you can't disrespect him with a guitar hero argument. BUT, he is no Alex Lifeson, that's for sure.

  • what use have they for you? Another toy...

  • man, these guys wouldve won a Grammy for this had cliffs of dover not have came out...

  • I love "cliffs of dover", but after a while the repetitive notes and meandering sound begins to eat at my brain stem.

  • As to why they chose Cliffs over "Where's My Thing?" has to do more with politics as usual with hating RUSH, rather than the pieces of music themselves. IMO, objectively, "Where's My Thing?" is just better for many reasons.

  • I just thought of something that would be really cool. What if Rush played a sort of "instrumental medley" incorporating every instrumental they've ever written. It could start out with La Villa, then YYZ would lead into Where's My Thing, then they'd break into Leave That Thing Alone and so on. They could even incorporate the instrumental portions of 2112 and Cygnus if they wanted to get really carried away.

  • Didacts and Narpets.

  • Diggggg it so much !! :)

  • Class instrumental by the best band ever!

  • I miss my ROLL THE BONES CD!

  • lista przebokow programu trzeciego

  • Got to love that Wal bass!!! Sounds awesome.... Go Rush!!

  • relabel this megalomaniac part three moving behind the who no don't mind me fumble suggested witch clothes don't even fit me...

  • @ePhilosopher9 What?

  • "WASzzzunN"T RIGHT!"

    THESE#THINGS#JUST#CAN"T#BE#TRUE

    Love,

    The Average

  • understood

  • The instrumental that became known as "Limbo" should have been part two of this and titled "Look at the Size of That Thing!" in keeping with the "thing" motif.

  • And either "Malignant Narcissism" or "The Main Monkey Business" as part one and called "Things Aren't What They Used To Be"

  • @schmittelt you're forgetting that Leave That Thing Alone came before Limbo

  • @burningxdimx The unfinished 4 part Gangster of Boats Trilogy (just like the 4 part "Fear" trilogy) are numbered in backwards order. The exception being part 4 of Fear, which actually did come in fourth position. And in case you're wondering...you can have as many parts to a trilogy as you want. Stop making sense, right this very instant!

  • @schmittelt Hahaha nice call.
