When the film was done they didn't have a lot of money and when it came time to do the mask they had no budget left. So the props guy went to a costume store and bought a Captain Kirk Shatner mask. They painted it white and teased out the hair and it became their killer.

The first half was too slow, the second half was like a point for point remake of the original, covered in dirt and blood with a longer chase scene at the end. @nudaydawning admittedly, the original movie made Michael out as nothing more than pure evil. he wasn't really a man with a mental disorder. he was a force of nature instead. he was almost...supernatural in his evil.

but it depends on the viewer if Rob Zombie's version (that Michael is just a man with a mental disorder) is better or not. personally, i prefer the original interpretation - that Michael was pure evil and there's nothing that any psychiatrist could have done to 'fix' him.

IMo one of the things that made the original halloween SO GREAT is what Carpenter did with so little in terms of resources...the man was what someone called almost "a one-man band filmmaker" and I agree. And one of the things that made is a good movie was the little information we got, it added more of a mystique, which always is preferred to getting ALL the info on a killer...he didn't humanize mike myers very much, and I like it that way.
