She herself lived in Rostov-on-Don region. We have plenty of Ucrainians here in Rostov-on-Don. Each third is Ucrainian or has at least some Ucrainian blood. The affected areas were Ukraine (the main one), the northern Caucasus, the Volga Basin, and Kazakhstan. Those are the only areas that Stalin deliberately starved to reduce people's resolve. Other areas were left alone.
I guess I stand corrected, but those areas I listed were the main afflicted areas, Ukraine being the most affected of them all. 15 million people died in the famine, 6 million in Ukraine. Stalin was trying to collectivize and he thought these people would be a opposed to it, so he decided to starve them into submission and ended up killing about as many as the Holocaust.

Regardless, once the famine starts there is nothing which any government could do about a famine of that size since penicillin was not available.

She herself lived in Rostov-on-Don region. We have plenty of Ucrainians here in Rostov-on-Don. Each third is Ucrainian or has at least some Ucrainian blood. Ucrainian is my native language, as well as Russian. That's why I get angry when some one tells idiotic number of 2, 4, 8 or even 10 mlns victims of famine.

He was forced to publish articles he knew to be a lie & started using the printing presses at night to disseminate authentic information. He somehow survived his sentence while many, many other 'enemies of the people' he spent his sentence with did not.

The affected areas were Ukraine (the main one), the northern Caucasus, the Volga Basin, and Kazakhstan. Those are the only areas that Stalin deliberately starved to reduce people's resolve. Other areas were left alone.

I guess I stand corrected, but those areas I listed were the main afflicted areas, Ukraine being the most affected of them all. 15 million people died in the famine, 6 million in Ukraine. Stalin was trying to collectivize and he thought these people would be a opposed to it, so he decided to starve them into submission and ended up killing about as many as the Holocaust.

No, while the Ottoman Empire was eroded away at, the Armenians suffered the aggression of the Turks, because Armenians were trying to get more representation, sometimes using violence. The Ottoman government depicted this as an act of treason to justify the massacre of them. There are thousands of Turks and Kurds (the latter of which are also victims of Turkish nationalism) in eastern Turkey but almost no Armenians. Why? An Armenian killing virus? @dozjik The idea that it was 'committed' by the soviets is rather silly, this was a point only posited by the Hearst Press in 1935, remember, a pro-Hitler press with an apparent anti-Soviet bias. Investigation by Ukrainian officials has confirmed that it is not the fault of the Soviets but some internal management irregularities within the Ukraine. Regardless, once the famine starts there is nothing which any government could do about a famine of that size since penicillin was not available.

Having looked at your page, I sense that you are an intelligent person. Intelligence demands empirical data/facts. The reality is that there are ways to hide empirical facts. I'm well aware that photos from other periods (that is, the famine of '21) have been used in such 'documentaries'.

@TheCommunard What I DO KNOW is that this Holodomor was during a bumper harvest & Ukrainian peasants were opposed to Collectivisation. See if you can find any information from the first census taken post-Holodomor (taken in '39). The numbers crunchers & others involved in the census 'disappeared'. I am not speaking as a chauvinist. I have agenda other that truth & have no reason to doubt eye-witness accounts from family & friends.

@TheCommunard We have no reason to believe the self-censorship that has long been practised in Western journalism. During the era we speak of, there was an uncomfortable alliance between USSR (under Stalin) & the imperialist Western powers. Thucydides is recognised as both the first 'objective' chronicler of history. We know that he was NOT objective. I don't have the right to tell you that you're ill-informed. By the same token, you have no empirical proof that my relatives were liars.

@irynski Well, I posted what I did 6 months ago based upon the following: I viewed information which suggested a famine, and had 3 characteristics: 1) The impact was harsh on the Ukraine 2) The famine was jumped upon quickly by German and American anti-Soviet press & inhumanely manipulated many ways for benefit 3) Blame from said press was directed personally at Joseph Stalin and at the principle of collectivisation.
My objection is not to 1), but to 2) and 3). Those who starved deserve truth.

@TheCommunard A very reasonable objection. I won't harangue you any further as to the matter but can tell you that, despite it being played as a political tool on both sides (and I have no love for the Western press and its objectives), it was a horrifying event. History should be acknowledged and lessons for humanity preserved (we are a global community and should not allow the oligarchy to perpetuate concepts of Nation-State). Sadly, most documentation has long since been destroyed. Cheers!
