  • great tip number 43

  • got reason5/record 1.5. and the sidechain effect works fine, thank you.but the threshold in the combinator doesn´´t work. i can use the threshold only in the mixer (2:54). don´t know why

  • Lousy vocal sound for an "expert" recording tutorial

  • ive got a ? 4 u

how do i make my strings sound real?

i love reason just dont fully understand it

    cn u help me?

  • it's kinda lame that some amateur producers made this tutorial (and some pretty good ones) way before this major label.

anyway, im just saying they couldve done it a long time ago so people could learn with the pros.

  • Kat Vs. Gauge @ 2:54 Good Taste Mr Bernard .... Good Taste.

  • @AmerianWealth07 I was going to reply..come on think for yourself because its not really that hard but if you need to be told, one way could be to use audio merger/splitter and route the percussion to a new channel and to the side chain input on the compressor. or duplicate the percussion instrument

  • Please upload a refill pack BE SO USEFULL

  • Who'd of thought something like that would be be so simple! Thanks for more tricks of the trade - looking forward to more!

  • gotta love combinators!

  • may you upload a refill packer tutorial?? Bless! :)

  • I feel quite foolish... I figured out why the mic sounds a bit muffled... umm.. helps to actually be speaking on the correct side of a cardioid pattern mic. I was a bit thrown off by the shock mount which has a notch/groove which fits the mic in one way.. (pattern front facing opposite) but did not realize you can TWIST the mic after you insert it into the shockmount.... needless to say the voice WILL sound better from now on... OOPS!!!! See.. everyone makes mistakes!

  • i.... LOOOOVVVVVEEEEEEE reason

  • yeah james you got the same microphone as me :D:D

thanks the sidechain effekt is what i searched for

  • your voice was clearer before!

  • @tintala I literally got the mic about an hour prior to doing the video.. so I think I have a little more tweaking and settings to adjust.. but believe me the end result will be better. After looking at files I think I over compressed and had some major peaks when I was doing a sync clap... plus I am going to try using a few other of my audio interfaces to see which one has the best sounding Mic Pre. Fear not.. I'll get it sorted.

  • Your voice was clearer before

  • Speaking of compression, what is one supposed to do about the transients, or clicks, that result from it?

Soft clip is just brute force which results in distortion, if anything, it makes the transients sound hard as polycarbonate. The lookahead brickwall setting on the limiter still lets through clicks above the threshold when fed a sufficiently strong signal, even if soft clip is enabled, not to mention it has a slow release, and seems more than a little inconsistent.

  • @Tokeijikaku I've found that increasing the attack ever so slightly until you find the sweet spot between it sounding 'clicky' and sounding 'slow' really helps. (When you're sidechaining anyways)

If you're talking about regular compression causing clicks (or too much 'punch' or 'crunch') - I suggest you take a look at parallel compression.

I find the compressors in the mixer in record are MUCH better than the M-Class compressor in Reason. My favourite compressor for side chaining by far!

  • @LaustinSpayce The problem to my experience with parallel compression is that it doesn't do anything about the attacks, the transients just accumulate instead. What I'm getting to is that the problem isn't that there are clicky transients, its that there are transients at all, that are substantially louder than the compressed signal. I want to level the transients down to the same as the compressed signal somehow, and how to do go by it effectively is beyond me.

  • @Tokeijikaku Ah ok, what about doing parallel processing, but using the limiter with 4ms lookahead to chop your peaks out? Even by using the soft clip, the clip should hopefully be masked by the unprocessed transient. Then when summed back with the original, you should gain 6dB on everything that isn't limited?

I've used some excellent peak limiters, (The Reason one isn't bad), but the really really great ones I've had to rewire into a DAW for (Massey L2007, Waves L2 etc.)

  • @LaustinSpayce spot on, I got back on to tell him the same thing

  • i wasted 2 whole years on reason.. the reverb effects on reason is terrible.. not allowd to have plug ins.. all about FL stuido/logic/cubase :DDD

  • @TSDREX You know you can rewire Reason into FL/Logic/Cubase and then use your Lexicon 480L as a reverb on that yeah?

  • Hey James, sorry its me againt but i have a serious problem. I want to do a professional filter sweep (that mau5 stuff /watch?v=d-G6ZHFJZNk 0:28). I've tried this over weeks and i am almost loosing my hope, i can't find a serious tutorial about it. Is sampling the only way to achieve this? Or is it impossible to do such a thing in reason? I tried everything, noice osc, unison, delay reverb and so on... Could you please pls help me with an tutorial or a link to one or book or sth? thx so much

  • @theoneandonlyhut That sounds a bit like a reverse cymbal & some noise running through a band pass EQ which rises, then crashes.

  • Mic sounds great

  • New mic doesn't sound well.

  • this is the best software i had ever used. it is the reason (no pun intended) i made commercial releases, the reason i have over 80 completed pieces of music spanning more than 4 albums and countless remixes. i have to thank you propellerhead. you successfully turned this pirate into a lisence holding believer, and ten years later it is still the best money ever spent. long live Reason/Record and the Props!

  • @Rane909 How Ironic your post is... because on props forum there is a very heated debate as to wether or not Reason/Record is able to achieve pro results...lol...... your post prooves it! Reason is incredible.

  • I love how you referenced magnetic mans I need air track, love it :)

  • @kittehjam Yep. I like me some Magnetic Man...

  • De-Esser Please!!!!!!!! lmao

  • @bigdawgandrewm

    look here:

  • ah, so this is the effect on the latest britney spears single!

  • I honestly think your voice sounded clearer in the previous video

  • uh oh, Daedmau5 watch out! thanks for this.

  • I love this effect! Always wondered how it was made! THank you JB!

But, do we have to use a redrum? what if we use KONG for our drums, also can we use this for other sounds or instruments? thnx!

  • @tintala rinse a repeat.

  • @tintala You can use what you want. A Redrum, a Kong or a sampled sneeze of your grandpa loaded into the NN-19.

And keep in mind: You don't have to do anything, because reason is all about experimenting.

  • Love the sound of side-chaining!! And love the tips!! Keep it up!

  • You people who download software which took loads of hard work to produce deserve a slap. You would only moan if somebody took credit for something YOU did. Buy software and stop being such a cheap ass

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah... Go on.... Get it for free... Install that virus on your system!!!! Yayyyy!!!

  • Get what for free? If u want record u have to buy it u idiot! And if u are looking for cracks I wouldn't go on propellerheads YouTube channel to talk about it! If you people don't start buying the things u like to use, one day there won't be any cool software anymore cuz it won't be worth making if everyone steals it!

  • @MrGac95 I appreciate you coming on to this thread and confessing that you are going to pirate our software. Guess I will have to feed my children Ramen noodles and save the rain water for drinking.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrGac95 if you drink rain water you must be running your pirate software on an atari

  • @greeny1200 fail but nice try lol well except the rain water part

  • @MrGac95 I bet you cant
