Something is amazingly screwy with the beat and riff; try playing and singing along with this record; it will drive you insane. Still can't figure it out completely!
Two films with this song in them: Wes Anderson's Rushmore and Wim Wenders' The American Friend. I think they both have good taste. Ray Davies, a lovely songwriter, a lovely human being.
the rolling stones had a couple of good cds, the beatles were way too cheesy, and the doors were all buzz. The kinks on the other hand, made some good songs, and some very good songs, before moving on to making some of the greatest rock albums ever
@Tuzotonic :) :) I'm biased...I think he is THE greatest, not just one of. :) I always use the word 'brilliant' when discussing the music of the Kinks too...it truly is the most fitting word. :) :)
Bill is amazing. I ran into him about two weeks ago. For some reason he punched me in the face. I asked him why, and he said "No one will ever believe you," then he smiled and walked away. And he's right. No one has believed me so far!
@2pacisgoDIamOJ there are plenty of animals and plants which multiply without sex. so they are in a way gay.. but, of course, i meant gay as in kitsch.
This song never really got recognized properly until Rushmore. Its from the somewhat forgotten album Kinda Kinks. This came out around the time of those other neglected gems Kinks Kontroversy and Kinks Kinkdom. Maybe basing their marketing scheme around the letter K didn't work as well as they thought it would. If that plan to get Murray the K as the Fifth Kink had worked out, we might remember that period better today.
If I had to pick 2 out of 3 out of the Kinks, the Stones, and the Beatles, I would have to pick the Kinks and the Stones. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Beatles as well, but those are the two I really like the most.
when was this recorded?

Wes Anderson seems to have a serious infatuation with The Kinks. And who's the jackass who disliked this song. Must of been high on pcp.
