@jsmorel86 I guess so. But i'm not much of a bike guy so I wouldn't really know a whole lot about them. I guess it does make sense however especially since the cam is much lighter in a bike than in a vehicle.
@Blackrier93 Dont talk out your arse, these bikes usually have a 11.0-1 compression ratio, they rev high because of a very short stroke. They are not quite f1 standards, (f1 cars are not very reliable, so arent any good on the road anyways), but what Honda learnt in f1 they used to develop these motorcycles.
@Blackrier93 What the fuck are you on about? That's the most stupidest comment I've ever seen and it made me laugh because it is so silly. If it had no compression, it would probably not start let alone rev so responsively. The CR on most of these machines are in the regions of 11:1 - 12:1. Mr Honda realised that investing in racing had several benefits and anything that revs in the regions of 18 000rpm is F1 territory. Involvement in racing does push technology forward.
@Daschickenify lol i know the difference between a moped n motorbike and yes i ment one r. its crap now compared to how they used to make them, they have made it sound like a moped with the single cyclinder. The tuned ones in asia are the only decent 250r's now
@airsoftwarrior666 Not to worry when in the higher gears, but to rev it like that in neutral, I'd be worried just in case I destroyed the crankshaft, flattened the cam lobes or blew the piston rings. I reved my ZZR600 to about 7000rpm in neutral and that I didn't feel happy about.
@playstation3fukxbox uuhh the rev limiter is at 20.000 rpm so the engine doesn´t go into the "danger zone" where it can actually be revved til it breaks
@sneakyabcd Damn, 4000 only? My '61 Chevy truck with its 235 I6 gets full power(only 136hp) at 4800! My '77 280Z is factory rated at 7100rpm(all 170hp at 5600 though and above 6k is a waste on the stock cam) Or were you trying to say 40,000? haha
any other motor is puss, 19,000 starting redline should be the standard for modern bikes. these things kicked out that number in the damn 80's. why did it stop, the new r6 can't even make their 17,500 rpm quote. and the gsxr 600's are only 16,000. the bigger the CC the lower the redline. these are the greatest bikes ever made.
@313foxbody420 Ofcourse the bigger the capacity the harder it is to rev, more rotating and reciprocating mass (bigger and heavier pistons, crank and valve train components) its much harder to make a 600 rev to 16,000 than a 250 rev to 18,000. This is an indicated 20,000 on the tacho, probably more like 18,000 in reality. How bout 2.4 Litre V-8 F1 engines revving to a true 20,000 RPM, thats engineering!
The nice thing about two strokes is if the fuel can ignite fast enough you can rev them very high. There is now valvetrain to slow them down, no valve spring floating issues to deal with and it is all a simple system. I own a rc car that has a small nitro engine and it revs to 38000 rpm's.
@Chevymonster203 small engines rev higher because of less stroke, giving less stresses, but yeah 2 strokes can rev higher, and when they do rev high they have less to break.
@mageac for the most power to displacement 2-stroke is the best but then the reason why i dislike it is it usually consume lots of fuel and oil.. also its too polluting compared to 4-stroke engine.. and i think 2-stroke is stronger and more durable than 4-stroke because lots of extreme bikes and atv use it... and lawnmower.. lol.. just joking..
@theundeadx Well, the 2-stroke engines bad reputation of polluting now belongs to the past with direct fuel injection, and many companies have resolved the problem all over the world. Closed lubrication systems also exist. And in Taiwan a few years ago, it was a 2-stroke bike that won a very "ecology-minded" contest of green vehicules. All others had 4-stroke engines. To me this is great news and I expect a whole revival of the two-stroke technology !
@hoplageis57 however that doesnt sound too good for me, if u live in my country and u r not a "street bike racers" u will hate 2 strokes engined bike, they r annoying.. thats why i prefer 4 strokes over 2 strokes engine.. maybe its just me but i know i would never bought anything with 2 strokes engine, at least for now, u never know the future.. =)
i used to own a 250rr, revved it to the limiter every chance i got, it was still fine after 30,000km, tough as hell. Of course i did do ALL the proper maintainence, thats why it lasted. I loved the sound they made
I would imagine the rev limiter would kick in and probably after prolonged revving at that limit, the fuel supply would probably get choked. The engine would explode if kept at such high rpms without load!
yeh Im in qld, Got myself a lil one of these. yeh new LAMS laws came out last year for us. But ive nearly had mine for a year. gotta upgrade to R licence soon :D. What would be the best next bike to get , Cbr 600RR , R6 , or GSX-R 600 or 750??? im loving all of them but cant decide!!!??
If your not allowed to buy anything bigger than a 250cc e.g. In Australia you must have your bike liscence for more than 1 year before upgrading, then why wouldn't you compare/think about buying one.
I'm from NSW and we have LAMS no 250 two strokes for us only 125s. But if you wanted to compare a Two smoke to a four . Youd compare an RS250 to say a CBR600 or an R6 around a track. Where bouts you from mate?
Ah yeah I live in WA, no LAMS here.... WA slower than the rest as you know. Here power:weight means SFA to the gov, so long as its 250cc they don't care.
But i do get exactly what you mean, I guess it depends on what exactly your after....
Ah yer good ol' WA lol. I wouldent get a 250 two stroke for my first bike mate your taking a bit of risk. I'm on my Ps and have an RVF400 and i rode a NSR250 and was blown away by how quick it is. Get a CBR Reliable and quick but not so quick you gunna kill yourself. =]
Hehe don't worry mate I don't have the balls or death wish to learn on an RS250.... Was looking for what you recommend, a CBR250.... great looking, sounding and go-ing (for me)
@vspec2wrx My GSXR600 is in a completely different league to an Aprilia RS250 or Honda RS250. It has a Garett turbo and can make 152bhp all day long without blowing up and handle just aswell as any two-stroker. Owned.
@Lee7887 Yeah so what my snowmobile is a 1000cc triple two stroke and it makes 182hp stock with shitty porting and small carbs. So what and it does it with out a turbo, 4 stroke owned.
@Lee7887 do you have any idea how much lighter a 2 stroke anything is, no valves no cams no cam gears cam chain valve springs no oil pump no oil filter so much more simplicityand yet can ( not all do but can) make 2 times the power of a 4 stroke of equal displacment.. owned
Nice bike! But not the best idea to be dry revving that high... There is no inertial resistance if it's not in gear. I sure wish Honda would sell these in the US to compete with the baby Kawasaki.
When I said "in gear" I was referring to moving in gear, as in, under load... Calling me a moron, wow, real mature! Just because you don't understand what I'm talking about, which clearly you do not, definitely does not make ME a moron. If anything, it makes YOU a moron. The FACT is that it is not good for an engine to be brought up to high RPM while it is not under load(aka dry rev). I have researched this fact and know it to be true. You obviously haven't, and you don't know. I don't care.
mate i totally agree with you aye, but i tell ya now, if you (like me) take your bike to an official dealer, get a major service, tune or cam chain replaced, they rev the shit outa them just like that, and not in gear (i must say so not quite as long on valve bounce...if they hit it), moral of the story : i don't and wouldnt ever do it to my 919rr, but it has probably happend to your bike alot already.... and unfortunatly mine to... ive seen how these bike shops tune bikes btw.... heaps
dude, i race my CBR 250RR and at Queensland Raceway im changing gears around 18000 rpms, thats its peak. Ive reaved it out to a little over 20 0000 on the track before...
I have a cbr 600 F4I and mine bounces of the rev limiter at 14,500 but with a power commander you can bump those revs up to about 15,500 to 16. But you wont keep the connecting rods in the engine case there for very long though. You need a lot more then just light valves to hit those type of rpm's. but an extremely larger bore and a small stroke will help accomplish this though.
my mistake, ive never seen a 4 stroke hit that high without floating a valve, except a few ducatis. i guess ive seen my first honda now. . i stand corrected. my apologies
Dont forget about the size of the engine, smaller valves and pistons means less weight. If it was 1000cc it would probably need desmodromics or pneumatics to hit them revs or something would definately go wrong. I wonder how many revs a modern 250 desmo of same engine configuration could hit. posibly a few 1000rpm more.
Big engine displacement will break easier when attemping high revs as its trying to throw more mass about. Get a heavy weight and a small weight and move them about fast. The small one is easy to stop and move the other way where the heavy one isn't. The same aplys to the valves. The small valve's can reach higher revs as its easier to open, close than the bigger heavier ones. They all have there limits. Comapair a bird and a flying insect. The wings on the insect are very fast but the bird isn't
Why so many Rpms?

u moron what are u talking abt :)
adamus995 3 years ago
When I said "in gear" I was referring to moving in gear, as in, under load... Calling me a moron, wow, real mature! Just because you don't understand what I'm talking about, which clearly you do not, definitely does not make ME a moron. If anything, it makes YOU a moron. The FACT is that it is not good for an engine to be brought up to high RPM while it is not under load(aka dry rev). I have researched this fact and know it to be true. You obviously haven't, and you don't know. I don't care.

I understand perfectly what u ment but it is just one big bullshit... Pls dont believe in every crap piece of information you'll find on internet.
adamus995 3 years ago
mate i totally agree with you aye, but i tell ya now, if you (like me) take your bike to an official dealer, get a major service, tune or cam chain replaced, they rev the shit outa them just like that, and not in gear (i must say so not quite as long on valve bounce...if they hit it), moral of the story : i don't and wouldnt ever do it to my 919rr, but it has probably happend to your bike alot already.... and unfortunatly mine to... ive seen how these bike shops tune bikes btw.... heaps

Hmm yea I hear you on the bike shop thing. Most of them are definitely a bunch of incompetent failures.

It amazes me that Honda does not bring this badboy back with visual modifications...

SSshane6d9 3 years ago
r u dumb, bikes rev alot more than normal cars. these things rev to 18000

WOOTIWINYOU 3 years ago
my mistake, ive never seen a 4 stroke hit that high without floating a valve, except a few ducatis. i guess ive seen my first honda now. . i stand corrected. my apologies
yamahonkawazuki 3 years ago
go take a look at some NSR125/250s, and RS125/250s, RGV 500/250, that's what 2 strokes sound like, also.. awesome bikes!
WOOTIWINYOU 3 years ago
aye, those ive heard, wouldnt mind one either, but not easy to get in this country unfortunately
yamahonkawazuki 3 years ago
Do they have Pneumatic valves? Or is it just Burly springs, Light Valves, and Low displacement. Maybe desmo, but I doubt it.
mikeb1444 3 years ago
Dont forget about the size of the engine, smaller valves and pistons means less weight. If it was 1000cc it would probably need desmodromics or pneumatics to hit them revs or something would definately go wrong. I wonder how many revs a modern 250 desmo of same engine configuration could hit. posibly a few 1000rpm more.
benjyboba 3 years ago
yes indeed, my bad, lol its just ive NEVER seen a bike that small ( engine displacement) hit revs that high, without breaking somehting lol
yamahonkawazuki 3 years ago
Big engine displacement will break easier when attemping high revs as its trying to throw more mass about. Get a heavy weight and a small weight and move them about fast. The small one is easy to stop and move the other way where the heavy one isn't. The same aplys to the valves. The small valve's can reach higher revs as its easier to open, close than the bigger heavier ones. They all have there limits. Comapair a bird and a flying insect. The wings on the insect are very fast but the bird isn't

yeah. that i know. ( i am a moto tech by trade. i was never familiar with this particular model. until a few months ago.)
