To see most of these people/bands live is not much money either. Ive seen Frenzal Rhomb, possibly Australia's biggest ever punk export for 28 bucks. And that was only last year. The Aust music scene is pretty awesome, I think paying a bit of money for an album wouldn't kill some people to keep it alive.
you guys are living in serious denial. without record sales there are no consistent live shows, unless you build up a local following and play at pubs and bars, and it's difficult to make a living off that alone. if you want to sign to a label and become more than a garage band, you need to sell records otherwise you cannot tour. tour support generally comes directly from the labels, and nowadays, with the spread of illegal downloading and a subsequent drop in sales,...
labels are now taking a piece of the live sales and merchandise. this trend has been in motion in the U.S for at least 2 or so years now, and it's getting harder for bands to stay afloat and receive the appropriate amount of exposure without label input and record sales. bands need labels, and labels need bands. an artist can start up a label independently, but they generally only tend to be successful if they already have a reputation.
downloads are the single greatest thing to happen to the music industry in the last 15 years. Artists make bugger all out of record sales, it's the the labels that lose out. the same labels that are responsible for pushing commercial crap on the public day in day out. who cares if they go extinct! bands promote themselves these days, and it puts the pressure back on for giving good live shows. anyone can make a song sound good in a studio but bands need to be good live these days. Lindsay ROCKS!
I heard a interview with Lindsey McDougal on triplej this morning. he said when he did the interview for this film they didn't mention software piracy or downloading. so basically the told the artists that the film was on the 'myth' that they all live a lavish life. then they were put out of context on this ridiculous video
it makes sence when you watch the video because none of the 'artists' mention piracy or downloading at all.
Every Australian "artist" has copied and stolen from others. Silverchair from Nirvana, for example. Hypocrites. People will always buy great original music. "Artist" need to produce art. Not copies of American or English music. Package your stuff better. Say with a book that goes with the music. Downloading will not stop for disposable throw away music that no one will care about in a years time.
[sarcasm] After paying the cost of the studio so they can record, paying musicians to play on the record, paying manufactoring costs to actually make a physical CD, paying publicity costs, paying managers, paying booking agents etc. etc...why should they expect to be paid...of course they should just give away their work! [/sarcasm]
Effectively what people who download music illegally are doing is stealing. Since when is theft acceptable and why should this be condoned! What sort of message is this sending to the community!
The music industry is telling us not to download. That's not very rock n rock is it? "Artists" are part of the disposable society. If these "artists" on this video stop making music would is lessen us? I don't think so. Just goes to show how important they think their "art" is.
I hope they work out a better system for the artist as clearly its going to damage the music industry when people stop making music. Anyone who thinks its okay to download without paying is okay, needs to stop and think about it. Would you go to work just for the love of it and not put your hand out for your pay......didn't think so.
what a joke, poor jimmy barnes he is so hard done by. His life of non stop cocaine partys has been very tough. I feel really bad that some people downloaded some of his songs.
Its so wrong that people think its okay to download illegally. Once people stop paying for music altogether, then there will be no more music produced and the world will be a very sad place. No-one expects anyone to work for nothing.

Only 100,00 more downloads to go and we might put these miserable sods out of a job. They are all past their use by date. The public don't need music forced down their throats through record company budgets, if it sounds good people will pay for it, simple. Viva la revolution.
Well maybe if JB Hi Fi wasnt selling albums for $25+ that are 4+ years old, id consider it...

Viva people being paid for the work they do.
Ripping an artist off is a strange way to repay them for making music you like.
