wht like are the pilot tests for the AAC ? and do u have to be in the AAC before u can apply to be a NCO pilot, or can u apply from any regt?

you can transfer in from any other corps but you must be recommended for your full corporal. Not sure how difficult the entry tests are but i don't think they'd be easy. Good luck mate.

Have a chat with the guys in your local recruiing office, if you are dead set on being a pilot don't let them talk you into being ground crew!!

cheers for the response, I've tried talking to the people on the live chat thing on the army website but they don't seem to want to tell me about that but have been helpful for other things. Should probably tell my parents first but they are really not gonna like it, they didn't even want my brother to become a fixed wing pilot in the RAF so aren't going to like this

I joined REME then did pilot selection when i was a Corporal, and went through all of the selection at RAF Cranwell and Middle Wallop. Its changed a bit now but the selection tests seem the same. So this is an old post but if you still interested I can tell you what I had to do, selection is really hard and only a handful get through, I got through somehow and then went onto to fly Chipmunk fixed wing then on the Gazelle helicopter, I ended flight training after 8months,

It all depends on where you go. You Probably be refuelling and helping to move the aircraft around the hanger and out onto the pan. Or you could be working with vehicles or with radio equipment, there are loads of different task you could given.

same job i wanted to do, erm you need to join as a AAC soldier first, then progress to air crew after about 2 years, it took my m8 2.5 years to become a corpral, and he became a winchman (lol) so yea about 2/3 years, hope iv bin helpfull

not a problem, you want to be able to do a mile and a half in about 10 mins, sounds easy but it's a bitch. They don't expect you to be superman when you join but it'll help alot if are fitter than joe average.

To move from ground crew to pilot is very difficult but not impossible. Generally better to come in from outside the air corps and be a pilot. Ground crew tend to stay as ground crew.

Light infantry/paras, Light gun in the royal artillery or groundcrew. Overall though I want somewhere there's a good laugh aswell as something worthwhile.

don't know much about para's or artillery can only comment on ground crew, personally i think ground crew is good as long as you don't have any plans of becoming a pilot because it's really difficult to change. All jobs in the army can be worth while if you put in the effort. Good luck.

No, it isn't difficult to change. In fact for Apache pilots they only take people from the Army Air Corps. AAC are given priority. If you want to be a pilot join the AAC. What else would you join?

The AAC is the BEST part of the Army if you want to be a pilot. They only take AAC for Apache pilots as a matter of fact. If you want to be a pilot go AAC. It is the single easiest part of the army to become a pilot in. Why would anything else be easier? I just don't see where your coming from biggy731.

if i'm not mistaken to be able to apply to become a pilot you have to be at least lance jack recommended for promotion to full screw. i just think, to reach that rank, it would be worth while doing something other than ground crew as it's not noted for it's rapid promotion.
