The Geneva and the King James are by far the BEST translations from the Masoretic and the Textus Receptus. The Textus Receptus does not refer to the Holy Spirit as it. The Greek word for spirit is πνευμα(pneuma). The word itself is neuter in form but the authors would always use "He"(αυτο) when speaking of the Holy Spirit. They did not refer to Him as "it" ever.
The verses in question are not in the NIV because they do not exist in the earliest MSS(manuscript copies), copies that predate the KJV by a millennia. The KJV is based solely off of the Textus Receptus and not the earliest manuscripts available. The KJV was originally publushed in 1611, and most of us would be unable to read that version. It was revised and updated in 1830?ish. Enough with the KJV-only business. It's devoid of logic.

@berg6964 Just read the preface to the King James. The translators admit clearly that they could have made mistakes. They acknowledged themselves that the KJV wasn't "inspired". It's ok. It's still God's word. It's just not inspired as the original autographa were. I could point out several points where the KJV is not the best translation. In order to publish a "NEW" bible or any other work, it must be at least 10% NEW material or changed material. @chefjimmie1 just wanted to offer something you might like to look into - the geneva bible - this translation was around before the kjv. when the kjv came out in 1611 many called it heresy not unlike some of the stuff today. you'll need to do some research on this online and you'll see what i'm talking about. i've been studying and comparing from the geneva bible (d o t) org and looking closely at books of the bible WITH footnotes (you'll see the 2 parts). very in depth.

The Geneva and the King James are by far the BEST translations from the Masoretic and the Textus Receptus. I am very careful in this day and age to make sure that the Truth is defended and many of these new bibles are working for the enemy. @inbetween I am much too familiar the NO PAUL cult. I have debated them for years and I only find their reasoning more and more erroneous. In order to make it even seem to fit you have to throw out 1&2 Peter, Acts and Revelation. Paul was selected by Jesus Christ Himself on the Road to Damascus and He taught the things of God to the Gentiles. One must have a very shallow view of soteriology, and systematic theology to throw out Paul's writings which are so rich with Christ and His atoning work.

The Textus Receptus does not refer to the Holy Spirit as it. The Greek word for spirit is πνευμα(pneuma). The word itself is neuter in form but the authors would always use "He"(αυτο) when speaking of the Holy Spirit. They did not refer to Him as "it" ever.

The verses in question are not in the NIV because they do not exist in the earliest MSS(manuscript copies), copies that predate the KJV by a millennia. The KJV is based solely off of the Textus Receptus and not the earliest manuscripts available. The KJV was originally publushed in 1611, and most of us would be unable to read that version. It was revised and updated in 1830?ish. Enough with the KJV-only business. It's devoid of logic.

@berg6964 Just read the preface to the King James. The translators admit clearly that they could have made mistakes. They acknowledged themselves that the KJV wasn't "inspired". It's ok. It's still God's word. It's just not inspired as the original autographa were. I could point out several points where the KJV is not the best translation. @toobfunnybunny I notice that, too. KJV is incomprehensible to me, until I have someone "explain" it. My Bible is a parallel KJV/NIV version and it ministers to me. It's funny how Warren Smith wants you to buy his book 'exposing' Rick Warren, what a crock. I see one author attacking another that is more successful, using the Old Testament. Smith is doing nothing different than what he's accusing Warren of doing, lifting himself up in a book. Lift Jesus up, pray for those you don't agree with.

According to Matthew 27:2, what was Pilate's first name? Who are the three Persons of the Trinity in First John 5:7? Are you sure there's not a difference tween the 2? The KJB is on a 5th grade reading level. Fewer words/sentence. Fewer syllables/word. You've fallen for the niv marketing

@filoIII I never said there's no difference between the two, there IS. Do you know what a KJV/NIV parallel Bible is? It has BOTH versions side by side. The KJV is 5th grade level for someone 500 years ago. Ancient English differs greatly from modern English, which the NIV is written in. The passages listed are not in the NIV, but does it really change the overall message? No! Do we really have to know Pilate's first name? No! Does God only speak through KJV? NO! Why would He be limited to that?

@Tb0ne8761 You, as I stated earlier, have fallen for the marketing ploys of the modern perversions. First off, the KJB is not "ancient" english as you suppose. Modern english is considered from 1450 a.d. to the present. No one in the 1600's spoke like the KJB reads. It's keeping true to the hebrew/greek languages. Grade level indicating programs place the KJB at a 5th grade level-the EASIEST of them all for the reasons I stated.

@filoIII Not as much as if v38 had been removed. I still do you know how a parallel version of the Bible reads? 2 columns each page, on the right the perfect unblemished spirit filled King James Version, on the left the abomination known as New International Version. I read/see the differences daily. It is beyond me how anyone could actually believe God speaks through only ONE version of the Bible. Such legalism does concern me. Many words were removed from this comment, the message remains.

Other languages have their bibles based on the same manuscripts the KJB is based upon. Modern perversions are based on heretical catholic documents--Sinaiticus & Vaticanus. Do w/ this info as you see fit. Do you have enough confidence in the NIV to tell God, OUT LOUD, that these verses do not belong in the Bible?

@filoIII Okay, brother. At this point we need to agree to disagree. Your knowledge of scripture is impressive. If I have fallen for the NIV marketing. You've fallen for "only KJV" marketing. My pastor preaches from KJV. I have trouble understanding the language, I read KJV first, then look to NIV for clarification. I've bought in to the NIV marketing, then so be it. God speaks to me. If you believe it's not God speaking to me, then pray for me. Pointing out missing words and verses does nothing.

@toobfunnybunny yeah, the KJV only crowd are stupid I agree. In fact, the KJV calls the Holy Spirit an IT! "Itself" is how the Holy Spirit is referred. the Best Translation in my opinion is the NASB, where the Holy Spirit is referred to as a HIM aka; HIMSELF>

@tinfoilrepair Be careful who you call "stupid." The KJB is a direct translation from the TR greek (which used "it".) Webster’s College Dictionary of 1999 defines the use of the words “it” and “itself”. The second definition given for “itself” is: “used to represent a PERSON or animal understood, previously mentioned, about to be mentioned, or present in the immediate context - Who is it? It is John...Did you see the baby? Yes, isn’t it cute. . . the cat likes to sun itself in the window.”

Ricks life has meant that many men and women have come to a personal relationship with Christ. I know him personally and have known his ministry begining around 1973. I have personally witnessed radical conversions taking place with people he has prayed with over the years. It is a good thing that God will be the ultimate judge of us all. Saddelback was started with just Rick and one other person around 1978. The growth of the church was beyond anything that Rick anticipated.

people need to read the bible and believe in jesus. purpose driven life is a good book but it should not be read as a gospel. the book is not even on the same level as the Bible. People need to quit putting their hopes in preachers or their denominations and start putting their hope in Jesus Christ.

(Lk. 16:15) Whenever the world puts a man up on a pedestal, THAT man is never a "man of God". that scripture is very telling, it in context means Jesus is knocking on the church doors, because He's OUTSIDE the church. When you say only,'God loves', you know what I love me too! Wait a minute God loves me more than I love me? That's amazing, He's got a plan for my life? Well I got one too! Its even better! I'll take 2 of those God's.
