  • right on Alex

    tell it like it is

    SUV's suck ass

    Pro Safety - CTS-V wagon

I like the sound of that

  • The ratings are not broken. Number one the iihs never tested that volvo the modus. Ur thinking of euroncap which is completely different. And guess what, it's in Europe., just like old volvos and renault moduses.

  • hmm, so the best car is sitting high but also with good handling, now the x6 makes sense

  • rating system is not broken. The rating system is updatet every year. So 1988 rating is not the same as 2009 rating. And another thing, do you know what a fallacy is? maybe you should look into that, because you'r arguments sound retarded.

  • Yes, alex, we get it, you went through the country speeding without accidents and that makes you the safest driver ever to walk this planet.

You know what's not on this planet?

    your ego

Well, that was a joke so bad you could have thought of it.

  • not this alex douche again. ya really speeding cross country is safe. idiot

  • If Alex Roy has taught us anything its that breaking the law has minor consequences and can actually land you a somewhat lucrative job as a presenter for an automotive webshow, basically a position he doesn't really deserved.

  • Love the fact you use your cross country trip as be safe. How where you safe about it? How did it make you a better driver? How did any of this make a Driver a better Safer driver? I will tell you it did nothing but let someone Rant with a Over sized EAGO. Untill you can answer these questions then, your full of Crap.

  • white steve urkle

  • what about something like Consumer Reports ratings? do they do their own tests?

  • I would drive an SUV but my brain is too big and my pecker isn't small enough. Hate all you want we all know why you drive SUV's. The compensation factor.

  • Comment removed

  • Alex getting fat. Just saying

  • I love SUVs! But Alex Roy is right. Still, I'll just keep in mind that my toes might get broken in a head on collision with a Smart when I drive my Lexus LS 400, but my internal organs are more likely to survive!

  • Thumbs up to passing Safely

  • 2:59 i bought my car for 1200 i bought my TV for 2300 lol

  • lol Derek D's pedo bear suit. and this was a good episode Alex more of this

  • Wow I actually didn't completely hate Alex in this episode............

  • No no no...cars are the 3rd most expensive thing. 2nd comes a house and 1st comes woman and/or kids...

  • If you want to drive safe like me...

Always where your pedo glasses and watch the cars get out of your way.

  • In Canada we pave our roads with maple syrup, a much stickier substance, so braking is a lot better.

  • Rupaul?

  • An excellent Road Testament today. More of this!

  • please please please start uploading the Road Testament in higher quality.

I've never understood why Thursday's video's are always of the lowest quality material FLD puts out

  • there are heaps of suvs here in Aus

  • the creep factor on this guy just went up 1000 fold.

  • i dont give a shit about road safety. i dont want to have this in fast lane daily

  • I don't know.... For some reason when he has the glasses he duzn't seem so smug lol :)

  • you hit the nail on the head. safety is not only about surviving an accident, but also about avoiding it. the safest accident is the one you never have.

  • Is our current form of commuting our best option? Man I love driving my car but it looses something in the daily commute watching a thousand other individuals going to the exact same place at .0005 mph. Why do we wet so stuck in a paradigm where personal transportation with 120 year old tech is our only and best option.

  • You bastards ruined Cloverfield for me! I was about to watch it lol.

  • Alex Roy FTW!! I think you should break the record again as close to 30hrs, just to spite the haters.

  • I can't believe it. I used to want to beat the shit out of Alex Roy just for being a pompous little bastard that said ridiculous stuff for the camera. But now he has begun to speak well on good topics in a non-punch-me-in-the-face-cause-I'm-a-prick kind of way. Keep it up you converted prick!

  • DAMN YOU CLOVERFIELD!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy is starting to look a lot like a overweight, middle aged jerk off. He needs a new look.

  • alex roy= show sucks ass!

  • Cloverfield FTW!!!

  • Who taught Canadians to drive? How long till we can invade them? Ill vote for the first Republican who states he wants war with Canada!

  • alex you are the man. i too agree with you on SUVs. I remember someone rolling one because they were late to work. well she never made it to work that day. no instead i sat in traffic for 3hrs while they tried to tow her car off the road and everyone else who drove by did it at 5mph so they can watch. fucking stupid people...

  • Dude youre a douchebag

  • The best of the driver safety videos. Safety ratings are not accurate enough. Its great ncap added the pedestrian and child occupant safety rating but the scoring needed to be out of 10 or a percentage

  • Alex Roy is the maaannnn

  • CLOVERFIELD!?!

  • its not reckless if you know what your doing

  • DOUUUUUUCCCHHHHEEEE BAAAAAAAG!!!

  • Another great and informative episode, Professor Nerdington! CTS-V Wagon, my new favorite car, especially after seeing it in action on Speed Test Drive with Tommy Kendal.

  • And remember "Don't Die!"

  • One test that some scientists at the National Crash Analysis Center (NCAC) have been trying to add to the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) is a rollover test which is not yet done but should make a big difference. Help in the court of public opinion may very well be the answer here.. Care to sweep some voices to help?

  • Loved Alex roy's "reckless" days but just found new respect for his "nerdy" ones too!

  • driving education > vehicle safety, no matter how safe your car is in any rating, you got a shit driver, you're out of luck

  • Id rather drive a CTS-V wagon ,driving fast and dying young , than a big slow SUV and feeling safe and dying never!

  • If we end, or balance out, the hundreds of millions of dollars spent by auto manufacturers lobbying congress to prevent sensible changes to US Federal law - then you might see some positive results in overall safety. Every million they spend preventing safety legislation saves them several millions in increased manufacturing costs. So, just like the pinto, it's cheaper to pay lawyers than it is to change the cars.

  • @KOakaKO

The Ford Pinto turned out to be just as safe (or unsafe) as similar sized cars of the era.

The customer should decide how safe he wants his car to be, not the government. The only thing the government should worry about is the safety of other road users and pedestrians.

  • @Molo9000 - The safety of the Pinto is not at issue. It's a documented fact that Ford decided that it cost less to settle any lawsuits than to make any changes to the car. My comment was in response to the video, not a vote for more government regulation. If we HAVE the regulation, then it really ought to make sense rather than create yet another profit-generator for lawyers.

  • I would change my cross country plane ticket for a cross country CTS-V ride with Alex any day! much safer:)

  • Alex Roy you look like a pedophile

  • "YOU WANNA LIVE!!" Awesome :D

  • What is "safely"? I think I'm a safe driver but according to your episode a few weeks ago, that could just be my ego talking. What constitutes safe driving? Evidently speed limits don't play much of a role since you credit some of your success to safety. Not hating, just asking.

  • Alex, I really respect your opinions on safety. After looking up some footage of your gum balling days it's clear you would be dead if you had no clue what you are doing. It's also great that you admit so freely how dangerous it really was.

  • I think they need to get a seperate rating for diffrent carclasses, a higher rating roof, since alot of cars hit 5 stars, then the manufacturers don't have to make the cars safer, since we can't measure them, and they're at max rating. Also, don't higher the fuel costs, that affects everyone, higher the taxes for bigger cars.

  • Many drivers are idiots all over the world. The end

  • And Rapist Glasses :P

  • I hate MOST SUV drivers because they're either

-Paranoid idiots who think they're safer and still drive so slow as fuck

-Fucking douchbags who think bigger is better thus humiliating us sub-compact drivers while hiding their small dicks inside their huge ass SUVS even though they're BIG gas guzzlers can't protect them when I fucking rage and beat the fuck out of them.

FUUUUUUUUUUUCKK!!!! IDIOT DRIVERS ARE THE REASON WHY SPEED LIMITS IN OUR PLACE HAVE DECREASED AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!

  • Im not hating but Alex breaking that record with million speed rader detectors co driver and help of others dont make you an expert on road safety so stop braging about that. I dont know the stats on SUV crashes to coment on them but i guess it all depends on the impact and what the SUV has had an impact with. To blame the US poor driving on SUV and fuel prices is poor. NCAP isnt the best way to judge a car safety I agree but how can you judge an unpredictabilty of road crashes in any lab?!

  • hmm.. rapist glasses.

  • @raileanulucian thats all you got from this video. This is why you going to be one of those that i pass with a flipped over suv.

  • good episode

  • But one thing Alex, you make a correlation between SUV's and safety. You say that lower fuel costs make people more willing to buy SUV's in turn making the roads more unsafe. Although I do agree SUV's are not as safe, you have to acknowledge that higher fuel costs influence drivers to drive less and slower. So in the countries you mentioned, where accident rates have dropped significantly, those numbers are probably due to less driving on a whole, not just SUV sales.

  • Hey guys I like Alex Roy, he's funny, smart and informative. Stop the hating...

  • Alex Roy is an idiot. GTFO. Go ride around in your fucking Renault and I'll keep my Volvo.

"Don't talk to me about driver safety until you drive cross country in 31hrs blah blah minutes" STFU already. You're not any cooler for having done that. I've average 90mph through Indiana to Wisconsin. Does that make me a fucking car safety genius? No and neither are you Alex Roy.

  • @12gaugebleachdrinker You Sir are an Idiot.

  • @12gaugebleachdrinker he brings up alot of other good points in this video aswell.

  • @Jontenn He cut on Volvo so any points he makes are immediately invalid. And in 1990-95, the Volvo 9 series was one of the safest cars available. Sure, its rating may not hold up today, but wouldn't a 2021 model year car be safer than one of today? He's an idiot.

  • This guy just keeps coming off as a giant tool.

I was hit on the drivers side by a speeding motorist(40mph) in my Volvo 944turbo. I walked away, albeit from the passenger door. The french can keep their cars and surrender to any invaders. I'm Volvo for life. Fuck this bald penis sucking fagget.

  • i love watching these safety episodes.. they are informative to the point and open up a whole new world to cars and the people who drive them and how we look at them

  • I feel way safer on my motorcycle than I do in a car these days.

  • i am tired of all the safety shit

  • @steveo7220phx

Feel free to get tierd behind the weel and smash into a tree at any moment. Since you will be sleeping, you wont feel much. Thus removing your self from the gene pool and earn your self a Darwin Award.

  • lol you wish you owned a cts v wagon lmao me too :(

  • Look Alex, I only discredited you because there was one thing that you didn't mention -- although you are time limited on a video. You haven't mentioned anything about your own actions affecting others. Take the Gumball for example, people aren't prepared to see a car pass them at twice their speed (or whatever speed). You might have been safe after you passed them but who knows what could have happened afterwards to the people you passed. You could have very well been a distraction to others.

  • @StaatlichesBauhaus If you want to be that pick you can say that road signs and other things along side the road can be a distraction too. getting passed by a car that is speeding is just something you have to get used too, like everything else on the road.

  • Handling wont replace a shitty driver period, never has never will.

  • I agree with you 100% about suv not being as safe as people think because of poor handling and braking and in some situations even there poor acceleration makes them more prone to accidents. Ive always preferred a small to midsized sports sedan for those reasons. 2004 SRT4 FTW!

  • lol I love the nerdy glasses

  • CTS-V Wagon is king! Audi RS6 wagon is GOD!

  • i feel like this is the kind of episodes alex should do. i enjoy these alot better than him rambling on supercars. it makes me consider more about the safety aspects of a car as i am considering buying a new one soon. the one upgrade ill do is a brake kit.

  • thank you @JackZero... that's exactly what i wanted to say! If route 80 were an autobahn or I could do 90-100 without constantly thinking of police traps... i get it.... but I am living in the northeast, most of the drivers here suck, and the other half should not have thier licenses... the 17 years olds switch lanes without looking, the 77 year olds go 45 in the left lane... I still dont see anyone putting up a valid argument for NOT getting an SUV from a SAFETY standpoint (not enviro)

  • well, SUV's kill. but kill people that drives a small car in a crash. under current US high way turtle law, you can't drive fast. so why do you need handling? i dont care if you drive a SUV or golf. if you follow the 3 second rule, you will have enough braking space. SUV is safer for the passenger within. if you are planing to speed, then car is a better choice. IIHS's system is not broken because it is never meant to be made for the law breakers.

  • @JackZeroZ SUV are only safer to crash in, fact fact fact, sounds greeeeeat.

In my small car, I can avoid more accidents, unless some asshole hits me in their SUV.

SUV do not avoid crashes well, they make crashes exponentially worse.

The purposeful increase in SUV weight/size to hit CAFE limits for tax right off should be criminal; and the facts are available for anyone to find.

  • I WAN' LEEV!

  • To bad Alex Roy personally cant afford a CTS-V Wagon and practice what he preach. LOL

  • @Tigersmundo you know he owns euro by car, a rental car company. Where do you think all his gumball rally money come from ......

  • I like this format, sorta leo style, don't like the glasses...

  • It doesn't matter what car or SUV you drive, it's all about how you drive it. People crash SUV's because they don't know how to drive them. Same in cars.

  • @eightbit3055 That's only half way true. SUVs cannot handle like smaller cars. It doesn't matter how well you can drive your SUV, if you have to brake from 60 within 100ft, it's not going to happen, as well as changing lanes fast going highway speeds.

  • @yungrey55 It doesn't matter what car or SUV you're driving or how it handles. You drive that vehicle in the safe manner knowing it's characteristics. So think about it. If you can't brake from 60 within 100ft then why the heck are you stupid enough to go 60. Drive slower! Also why would you be so close to the guy in front of you if you know you can't stop fast enough. It's simple; you heavy and can't stop then drive slow. It's all up to the driver and has nothing to do with what you drive.

  • Canada still went down 50% and we are essentially the same as the USA. Therefore you just contradicted yourself. Unless you are saying that American Drivers are crappy?

  • @philippe4141 Longer driving distances perhaps?

  • @philippe4141 Never trust a statistic that you didn't make up yourself.

  • @philippe4141 Uh, on the whole, we really are.

  • @philippe4141 Cannadians dont drive that muck SUV-s...

  • @philippe4141 american drivers suck. nobody every signals. we all ride in the passing lane. its horrible here!

  • @philippe4141 the problem with the US is all the illegals that drive with 50 fucking people stuffed into a Geo Metro. You couple that with their inability to understand out rules of the road and what do you get? A lot of dead Mexicans and a higher %'age

  • @philippe4141 Don't compare us to the US

  • @philippe4141 if he won't say american drivers are crappy... I will...lol

  • @philippe4141

Hey now, you know the rules. Don't make direct comparisons with the US to us. There are more of them and if they realize how awesome Canada is they will come overpollute our beautiful country with their stench of SUV exhaust and Fast food deep fry oil. Or they will turn Steven Harper into a fascist dicator, invade Canada in the name of Freedom or whatever crap they decide, and then take our oil and natural resources... Oh wait we already let them take that for pretty much free...

  • Wise words from a wise man!

  • Great video! I hope it makes a few people think.

  • heards of byson, cloverfield! lol

  • have you guys, FLD and the road testament ever think to bringing this to the DMV? making people learn how to be safe, know what is going on, and to get rid of those horrible horrible DMV vids from 1964

  • right on the money Alex

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the Amish looking Beard and Einstein glasses - but hey..........

you know what you're talking about

Screw the SUV fan club morons

    CTS-V wagon - very cool

  • I used to hate your attitude before, but you've grown on me big time. I respect what you've done.

    no homo

  • I'm from Canada. Are you suggesting that the reason crash fatalities in the US dropped less than in Canada because of fewer SUVs? I can't speak for all of Canada, but in Vancouver we have only one insurance company which has monopoly, and plays a huge role is making driving laws, and jacking up our insurance premiums. We also have a lot of unmarked traffic police cars everywhere. I'm sure that all this contributes to less reckless driving and what not, but it takes away so many freedoms of drivi

  • and you still didn`t respond to the message I sent you... please read it and not only say that it isnt safe explain it! truck SUVs are the most selfish vehicle in the market for all the reasons.

  • cool glasses bro

  • Cloverfield!?!?! wtf?!hahahaha

  • finally you figured it out for us not to hate you doing the shows. congrats!!! haha

  • exactly! Good Show. Gets better every episode

  • the second most expencive thing i would buy is a custom PC

i can get a resonably safe car for 3G i can easly go out and drop 3g on a PC...

but this is point less cause im talking out of my ass but who gives a fuck this is the internet.

  • those selfish fucks in the SUV's dont realize they block everyone else views.... and there safer for themselves but more dangerous for everyone else.... i wonder if its just a coincidence that the idiots that buy suv's are also the idiots that are horrible drivers

  • Fuck I love this man.

  • You Sir are a DOUCHE!!!!

  • Alex should be replaced

  • Spot on!

  • Very well done! One of the best episodes from The Road Testament!

  • Does this guy look like Pitbull?

  • FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE. The ratings have changed over the years; Renault being top now is DIFFERENT from Volvo being top years ago.

  • Finally Something with Alex i can watch....Kudos for getting rid of the pedo-glasses.

Excellent episode but wrong comparison, older cars will always be less safe since their older. As cars get safer and faster the rating system needs to get harder, 5 stars isn't cutting it no more, the stars should increase to 10 and testing should also become harder, something that will force automakers to make more innovations in materials and designs.

  • Lesson in driver safety, attach police sirens and stickers to car:

    watch?v=Pb28cHZkx0Q&feature=channel_video_title

  • @davidmac2007 Actually compared to the Porsche he was fighting he was driving pretty safe

  • @robm425 I agree, my comment made me sound like a bit of a dick but I do think he drove safe, like he said, he must know about driver safety to be able to drive from NY to LA in less than 32 hours etc you must know about driver safety. I just thought the video was pretty funny.

  • Lookin less rapist-tastic with the new specs.

  • Do something about it.

  • I completely agree with your augments, HOWEVER I do believe you are preaching to the choir

  • very good show.

your also alot more likely to roll and suv than a car.

you missed something as to why they're broken, in that the manufacturer designs the vehicles to do well in the tests so you'll be fine if you hit a concrete block off centre at 40 but be worse of in other occaisons.

  • I will agree with everyone and say that these series of episodes have been amazing.... but an off topic question, will FLD announce when the new series of Top Gear starts?? Thank you.

  • I had previously said not to take account of handling since it depends on the driver to react for it to affect the safety, but that statistic on fatalities kind of proved me wrong.

Here's something else, if you drive an SUV you're more likely to kill the person in the smaller car, pretty selfish. See the Fiat 500 v Audi Q7 crash test.

  • Interesting show. @Tacti21 Get a Subaru.

  • Love the rant Alex ... I think you're really starting to hit home with the safety. Any intention of taking this to your local Governing body in order to see some changes made to driver education?

  • I have to admit im not a fan of the road testament but i also have to admit that this is the first time i can say that todays info was excelent !!!! Kudos for that and from now on ill be checking TRT more often

  • Such a damn freakin nerd! Love it! HAHAHA Good episode!

  • now buy the CTS-V!!!

  • Alex, being a Gumball fan is not the same without seeing Gumball 144 in any of the photos, or videos :( You epitomized the spirit of the Gumball for me!!!!

  • hot grundle hahaha

  • The video quality is horrible, why.

  • I am in my 20's and very likley will MIGHT need to purchase a new (or pre-owned) car in the next 3-7 years.... what do you recommend? I like to drive fast, but not excessively, I am not the stupid driver I was when I was 16, I like stick, and I have to get through mud durnig the season I am not getting through snow... so what do I get?

  • @Tacti21 Go get a car with abs,esp and airbags.

  • @Tacti21 go audi a4 with quattro, get it a few years old and it shouldn't be too costly assuming u work full time

  • @Tacti21 get a Subaru of some sort. Then get driving lessons, and then on some back country road while its snowing test very slow drifting techniques to teach yourself car control in hazardous situations. its what i plan on doing if i get something with rwd or 4wd with a stick by next winter.

  • @DieterStrife i did that very same thing with my 05 legacy. find a parking lot, find icy parts AND snowy parts. see how the darn thing REACTS. know the car you drive. you'll be in it a lot. because of this little experiment, im much more confident driving on snow because i know the limits a bit better. i can correct properly. im no schumacher, but the point here is safety. again, always good to know the car you drive.

  • wait... im lost... I am 13 times more likely to survive an accident while in an SUV, but you're telling me I shouldn't get one because I can prevent the accident better with a sedan-wagon? I am not being snarky, I am being serious.

  • @Tacti21 Survive an accident against a smaller car, but what if you hit a patch of oil on the freeway, or get a flat tire at high speeds, or anything that involves losing control of your vehicle? The bigger it is, the harder it falls.

  • @YawnGod @SacreDro -- Given: one sedan with abs, esp, and airbag... against a small SUZ (I am not talking about 16 inches of the ground, lets call it a Volve V60 / Lincoln MKT / Jeed Grand Cherokee... speaking STRICTLY from a safety standpoint -- you think the Jeep Grand Cherokee would be less likely to survive a crash (be it a tree, or another car) -- I'd have a better chance surviving in a ford focus or VW CC (Derek D's car) than in the 2 small SUVs mentioned above?

  • @Tacti21 Do you know what a "rollover accident" is, and the mortality incidence of rollover accidents as opposed to head-on/side/rear collisions?

  • of course I know what a rolover accident is! But what are the chances of getting into an accident and rolling over? I have never seen or heard any friend that has ever rolled over in an SUV... but I do have a personal friend who had 2 Jeeps totalled and walked away both times (first time was indeed into a tree, no alcohol involved in either case) I am just having a tough time being convinced by JF, Derek D, and Alex Roy, and you that buying an SUV is a BAD idea if I get into an accident

  • @Tacti21 The point is that you'll get into more of them. Sure they'll do better if you're in one. But a car with better handling will be more likely to avoid one in the first place.

  • whats with the picture of you in the clothing section of k1racecar website? lol

  • Yay no JF

  • greattttttt video, so true, but i cant help but to think that the american stats also have to do with americans being horrible drivers, making cars that cant handle, and (as u said) SUV, but because when they are in an accident they cause more damage to the car they hit, if a smart car t-bones another smart car, it could be bad but (physics again) a heavier car has more inertia, an SUV is heavier and if it t-boned a smart car it would be horrific.

  • did you get a CTS-V?

  • CTS-V For the win

  • You wanna live?!?

  • fuck the suv i rather have a lighter more comfortable car why you may ask i 6'4'' 280 pounds and i drive a little tiny ae86 hach (or at least i did un till it broke down because of wear) i get better visibility and better gas milage and i can take as much stuff as those suvs actually i had more room than than my sisters monster of a excursion so kiss my ass you suv drivers

we need more episodes like this to inform the idiots

because whether it's a one way or two way street it's EVERYBODY'S RESPONSIBILITY to drive safely when they are behind the wheel or else they should GET THE FUCK OFF THE ROAD

and to answer your question Alex YES I WANNA LIVE!!!

  • Their are many other factors besides SUV's that could correlate to the U.S.having a higher fatality rate: ie. more drunk driving, lower driving skill tests, safer roads, etc..

  • @XenomorphLV426 ALL very true, and FLD has discussed that before... BUT IIHS has no influence over those things, and Alex (for once) was forced to stay on topic.

  • Comment removed

  • i love the you guys are fighting for better driver education and experience... we give out drivers licenses like we do parking tickets... meaning even if you dont want one you will most likely get one at some point. that doesnt help our cause. also "car control" needs to become more a part of the license gaining process as well as the license maintenance testing over time. now how do we get there?

  • Amen

  • You guys should change change the name of the segment to "The Safety Testament" Please move on already.

  • @Crushercurtis702 You move on. This is the best the Road Testament has been in a long time.
