  • Isn't it weird that classical music goes so superbly well with movies(games) in the SciFi genre????

I could be an arrogant shit here, but a note for future directors-- If you cannot incorporate a classical piece into your movie, there is a good chance your movie is stillborn shit.

  • Each platform destroyed was 10000 souls lost, the bastards!

  • I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe,

Kharak burning, attack ships fighting in the Gardens of Kadesh, I’ve watched Bentusi die like twinkling fireflies at Tannhauser Gate… all those moments, lost in time, like tears in the rain.

    Time, for Homeworld 3

  • @MrLotharofhillpeople OH MY GOD!!!! That was perfect!!!

  • How many years have gone by? And this is still one of the best games that the human race has ever produced.

  • that was a great game

  • I lost Captain Elson in the final battle for Hiigara, he will be forever remembered...

  • Who wants to have Homeworld 3?

  • The Gallactic Council recognized our claim to this world

The sacrifice of thousands has left a trial of destracion behind us,like a path across galaxy

    To higara our homeworld

So much destruction, so many lives lost for this place

A place of wonder to those who knew the sands of Kharack

Our collonist were released from their long slip

Old simbols of the old empire wos destroyed

But the conflict will never be forgotten

A cellebration marked the begining of a new time...Karran S'jet win

  • after so many years this is still one of the best games i have ever played

  • T_T so sad now i am going to play some homeworld

  • Elias... ;_;

  • I remember the first time I came to this mission. It truly nearly made me cry. The music is so beautiful, the scene of the homeworld being destroyed. It was very deep.

  • Space melody of Platoon. Or Platoon in Space. Starring Charlie Sheen. lol.

  • Agnus Dei. Sounds like Oxford Boys Choir

  • 2 people have no taste

  • THQ own the IP to Homeworld, have done from 2007

  • I love Homeworld! Too bad for all the legal issues with the rights or maybe we would get a Homeworld 3 someday. Loved the opening theme here, reminds me of Gorecki Symphony No. 3 sometimes.

  • This song just made me go dig up my HW disc and install it again.

  • i have vista... would this game work on vista beforre i buy it?

  • @B1GMACNFR1ES Very probably yes. Might be a bit finicky though, and it will likely take some effort to make work. It runs on mine though, and I have vista, so I'd say it will.

  • Please tell me how I can get a copy of this soundtrack to the real time game?? PLEASE?? I will even pay for it!

  • No one's left. Everything's gone. Kharak is burning.

  • @Ancarius Kharak system will be rebuild in Homeworld 3 and everything will return tu normal

  • @Ancarius That brings back memories.

  • oh man this song brought back a whole bag of Nostalgia,

  • I see future in this story.

  • The Captain of the Taiidan assault frigate disliked this video before he was killed in interrogation

  • @Stedman75 Awesome.

  • Anyone else notice that the ships in the upper right are just mirrored images of the ships below? The support frigates are flying upside down. Noticed it on the cover of the homeworld strategy guide I have, always bugged me

  • @christiansok Good spot. Bought this game on release and never noticed that in any of the promotional pictures.

  • the intro to hm2 made me goosebump :O

  • This is actually a famous composition by Samuel Barber known as Adagio for Strings (as you can hear, many variations not actually featuring strings have been recorded as well).

  • @internisus True, but this is far and away the best version of it I have ever heard.

  • This song remember me the Karak burning, but some unlucky cryo trays are behing shot by pesky assault frigates, you capture one and remember how your "Homeworld" is destroyed.

  • The sticker got it right. YES

  • Who would dislike this? Just so amazing.

  • Humanity has made it so far. Our genius peaked ever so high when we conquered the stars. Yet many millennia have past, and we are lost once again. Our age old tendencies of violence towards one another have once again ravaged our race. Have we forgotten how we have risen so high? Have we forgotten why the necessity of expansion was so grave to us? Alas, these reasons are all lost in oblivion in the continuum of time. What higher being will come down and save us from ourselves now?

  • @czuket You're damn right!!!

  • Barber - Adagio for Strings

  • i almost cryed with that scene =(

  • BTW did you notice that this music is almost a copy of Platoon soundtrack? check it out - /watch?v=KfxqZagHXbM

  • @czuket Agadio for Strings......

  • @DenienN thx

  • @DenienN DUDE!! That's exactly what i was thinking XD

  • @czuket Both are copies of an actual composition. This song is called "Adagio for strings" and it was composed by Samuel Barber over 50 years ago. The Platoon version is a copy, this version is an adaptation. Adagio for strings has been voted as the saddest work ever multiple times.

  • More than just a game. Young gamers will never understand. I pity them...

  • @czuket Sooo true man

  • is this the same song that is in the beginning of platoon? I am hearing this song more and more often in modern films, i love it though brings back the days of my youth and memories of WON :)

also great soundtrack i think it won soundtrack of the year for a gaming title.

  • @Mx023 Yes. The song is called "Adagio for strings", composed by Samuel Barber. It has been voted multiple times to be the saddest piece of music ever written.

  • is this the same song that is in the beginning of platoon? I am hearing this song more and more often in modern films, i love it though brings back the days of my youth and memories of WON :)

  • @IncrdblRb Almost, original music is "Agnus Dei" by Samuel Barber, wich actually realy is "Adagio for Strings" but with choir.

  • The original name of this Song is "Adagio for strings"

  • what does mean Real-Time in the context Real-Time strategy?

  • @zetrino Not turn-based.

  • @jeroendegeus ??? does it have anything to do with The real Real time? cuz if it dosen't i don't care

  • never got the chance to play this game, (mainly because my PC was crap) but just the sound of the music brings me back to the golden days of games...

  • so many memories... it was a ver good game i miss it

nice sound nice animation an more some very good missions and storys

  • Isn't this from 28 Days Later?

  • @lankyGigantic This game was made in 1999.

  • Yes, indeed, this is a very good game. I still have the CD right beside me in my drawer ;) Might consider a reinstallation since it has been a while since I last played this game.

  • One of the best and most original storylines ever. Very good and unique game as well. Wish a remake was made, with improved graphics and controls.

  • Now I know where Halo got its soundtrack inspiration from.

  • Homeworld 2 killed the series.

  • @DarkTemplar40k Yea. It completly takes away that epic feeling when playing the game

  • This song is called Adagio For Strings, it was composed by Smauel Barber in 1936.

  • Most underrated game of all time - The Homeworld series.

  • @Kulska i agree i belive that relic or who ever owns the hw sierrs is working on hw3 but want to surprise those who belive that the homeworld leagsy is dead

  • @TheMikevella Na, thats just a rumour. I barely think it will happend.

  • @Kulska they last quit large story that needs to be told like the eye of arran or that the bentusi are liveing in an other galaxy or the progeniters aren't dead some thing along those lines

  • @Kulska not underrated :D it has like a 93/100 score on metacritic

  • @TheKlungo Yeah, but thats the reviewers. There was still not many people who knew about it even though it became the best game of the year. But i'm thinking on all the games. I barely think some has even heard of Homeworld Cataclysm. Its really underrated by the players if you think of other games.

  • "No signals from anywhere in the system..."

    (inhales quietly...)

    "...not even beacons."

  • they do have homeworld 3 out i do believe

  • can any 1 tell me where to doawnload this part of the sound track

  • So, so very epic song not to mention epic game gosh cant get this game out of my head first played it when i was 9.

  • Great story, great game and the greatest SONG !!!

  • Samuel Barber's music fits well in this epic.

  • i love the Taiidan Empires units in this game they look waaaay more awsome then they do in Homeworld 2 i think, but the taiidan mothership in homeworld 1 is so UGLY atleast i think so....ooh and what happend to Sierra studios, they made so many awsome games like Homeworld and Ground Control, but that was so long ago, and i was hoping they would keep making games like that.

  • @swemanD47 Sierra was a publisher.

Relic is the makers of Homeworld and THQ there new Bosses and there is evidence that THQ have bought the rights to HOMEWORLD so we might see a new game from them.

Relic right now are working on Company of Heroes: Online, Dawn of War and a Space Marine Game

Massive Entertainment (they made GC) are now owned by UBI soft and if you liked GC you should check out World in Conflict it is not the same, but close.

  • Isn't this Adagio For Strings?

  • @HitodamaKyrie something like that, yes =)

  • @HitodamaKyrie Aye. A piece copied, stolen, taken inspiration from and sampled since it was created. ^^

  • @HitodamaKyrie Regardless of what its real name is, it will always be none more and none less than the Homeworld Theme in my heart.

  • @HitodamaKyrie I always thought it was

  • I love how music in games can bring so much to it. This is one od my favourite gaming scenes and really makes u want to kill those bastards!

  • Homeworld would make an awesome movie IF Hollywood did it right...

  • @RamrodAI that's a really big IF.

  • @tf08js2 Lol I know a VERY BIG IF. But this soundtrack along with Prey are the two best soundtracks I have ever heard from a video game.

  • Homeworld 3 Recommended System Requirements - CPU: 3.5ghz Quad Core or above, with multithreading support. RAM - 8GB RAM dual channel. GPU: ATI 5900 series, Nvidia GTX480 or faster (for DirectX 11.0). OS: Windows Vista/ 7 64-bit. Oh my god, time for an upgrade.

  • Homeworld has one of the best storylines of all games, especially the original version. This game will be remembered and missed.

  • THUMBS UP if you think they should make a homeworld with the same storyline, ships and map but with better graphics!

  • @shadowraptorf22 Homeworld needs no remake.

  • The only game which ever managed to touch my soul. It always will be my favorite no matter what else will come out.

  • I just love how this song kicks in on the last mission when you get outnumbered.

  • Yeah... Strange game... Amazing game...

Touches something in soul, something very deep inside.

There was no amazing graphics, no amazing gameplay... But game still amazing. Everything was just ... right.

  • This was one of the best strategy games ever made.

  • chill with the voices

  • Really? Words? I can't even begin to use them to describe this... Beautiful just doesn't cut it.

(Stop hating on consoles BTW. They're not that bad)

  • This song is actually called Adagio for Strings. It was composed by Samuel Barber

  • @medmapguy

"Adagio for Strings" is the instrumental version, composed 1936, first audience in 1938. Barber did the song version in 1967. A bit late, but hey. ;)

  • i still have the original old school box the fat carboard one and a chunky booklet/manual, i will swear to never sell it! best game ever.

    oh yeah and 360 and PS3 f u!

  • PC gaming will always be superior to the consoles. Developers just need to realize that to stop piracy, they have to create EXCLUSIVE PC titles without DRM; then people will be willing to spend money.

  • @aaron5364

    They won't.

Profit is on consoles, thanks to the brainless people that buy 13553 DLCs for each game.

  • @aaron5364 I think PC gaming was at a decline is pretty much due to the cost for the consumers. A console does not need upgrade very often. you can play 360 for 4-5 years with very small upstart cost compare with a good gaming PC. So with game titles costing pretty much the same, most new-gen (especially casual gamers) would choose console. True hardcore gamers who also know how to upgrade PC to get the best out of them are a rare and dying breed.

  • @dtxu1 Your words ring all too true, friend. And what better song is there than this, a requiem for a dying breed? :'(

  • wonderful

  • This music really brings a tear to someone's eye. This brings so many memories back to life! I wonder why there is no film or anime about Homeworld. Just look at the cutscenes of Homeworld... they're made in anime-style.

Homeworld surely is one of the beste games ever made. And this music really fits to the game. Damn, I love it when the soundtrack sounds so fucking epic and dramatic!

  • I'm part of the latest gaming generation, based on consoles, yet I played this game, and loved it. The opening to this song is enough, yet there was more music, and entire game, and a sequal. Brings a tear to one's eye.

  • one of the best games ever!!!

  • PC gaming needs to come back. Consoles just don't cut it. This is a prime example. This game was and is still a masterpiece!

  • I heard this song in my dream once, the sound was so clear it wouldn't be possible to describe to you in words. It was just so beautiful.

  • This should have a bigger franchise and fanclub and support than it has. It is an intelligent, dramatic, entertaining and beautifull game (as in gameplay, theme etc)!

  • this always moves me. Homeworld is a masterpiece. Games are the ultimate art, nothing renders emotion more powerfully than in a game with an incredible story and music.

Also when they capture the Taidan dude and the quote 'the subject did not survive interrogation.'

  • I got an unused copy of this, the box still in the plastic, at Goodwill for $5

  • @Necromagnus97 Never sell that game.

  • *sighs* Damn those were good times. This is the Adagio For Strings.

  • @Ruin368: Thank u for the original.. I was seearching... decades..

  • The song is actually Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber (chorus version). I have it as an mp3 without the game sounds.

  • Tiesto's Adagio for Strings isn't half bad either.

  • Tiesto disfigure it, a scandal for my ears! Who is Tiesto?

  • "There is nothing left, they are all gone, Karak is burnning"

  • @RibonFox Brings back some sad memories... But they got what they deserved!

  • This sentence is carved in my soul... first time I cried before a game...

  • @RibonFox First time I played this game back then, hearing her say that brought me almost to tears, you truly felt for them... was so moving and sad. Incredible story for a game, one of the best I've ever played.

  • @RibonFox "All of us left. Everything's gone...Kharak is burning.

Kharak is consumed by a firestorm. Scaffold has been destroyed, all orbital facilities destroyed.Significant debris ring on low Kharak orbit. Recieving no communication anywhere of the system...not even beacons.

  • @RibonFox "Theres nothing left to us here.... let's go..."

  • @RibonFox *sniff* One if the most emotive parts

  • This brings back so many memories

  • @Daishi216 I feel like i've been missing out on something.

  • @powerofdestiny Truth to be told, there are many old games that i will probably remember until the day i die. Starting from Cannon Fodder, Universe, Prince of Persia, Franko or Flashback on my Amiga 550, to the old games like Homeworld, Half-Life or Fallout 2.... too bad they dont make games so immersive and compelling theese days.

  • @Daishi216 I'm forced to agree, So many games these days just really don't interest me. I want games that are really deep in the story department, Not drowned out with senseless war and violence.

  • @Daishi216 Yeah. the second one sucked.

  • @awesomemann1234

Well, i did replay all of the homeworld games lately, and to be honest i wont say HW2 sucked, i would rather say that HW1 was awesome and breathtaking , HW2 was "just" good.

  • @Daishi216 True. Still, the music is epic :D

  • Goose bumps the whole way, baby.

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • i love this game this song sounds so sad i keep picturing the horrible things in the world this is truely a masterpiece if a piece of music can give you emotion by its self one word about this song

    BEAUTIFUL

  • forbjok: google for "agnus dei" : ]

  • Was this song created specifically for Homeworld? I remember when playing HW for the first time, I had a feeling I'd heard this song before somewhere, though I couldn't remember where or when.

  • @forbjok

Cant say where you might have heard this since it is a widely known score, but hearing this made me think of the theme from Platoon.

  • It's Adagio for Strings by Barber. It's featured prominently in Platoon.

  • I've never seen Platoon, so that isn't it, but then I was correct - it is in fact a (well?) known composition, and not made specifically for Homeworld.

Most likely I've heard some techno/trance remix of it somewhere a long time ago.

  • If you ever find out what that remix was, let me know. I'm curious.

  • It's "Adagio for Strings", it's a very old song, and many orchestras play it

  • When it comes to in-game atmosphere, this game was and still is one of the best, second part misses that...

  • I remember I was 11 when I first played this game... and cried when I first played through the sequence. Emotional to say the least

  • You're not the only one... so I did...

  • Comment removed

  • this game has revolutionated the 3d strategi game genre. this game is epic and the music is to die for. so peacefull. it will allways bring tears to my eyes

  • homeworld..... its not only the game its something more ...

  • Most emotional moment ever experienced in a computer game.

  • beautifull song and epic game...

    sadly homeworld 2 wasn't as good : ' (

but i will always remember this song when i think of homeworld... i can still remember the first time i heard it... it was mission 4/5 or something like that (my memory starts to fool me)...

anyway thanks so much for uploading this music.

  • well it was a better game but the story kinda sucked big time... so yeah the first homeworld was better overall :)

  • Homeworld 2 wasn't as good as the first one ? I just downloaded the game and want an opinion about the second game.

  • @TheNameTooSexyToShow

In gameplay, skirmish, multiplayer, the second is better I think, but in story, Homeworld 1 is the best of any game I have ever played and... Is better than all but a handful of the best movies ever produced... something few games can come close to.

  • every time i hear this it puts a tear in my heart.......you heard this music when you returned to kharak from a warp jump when you relize that kharak was burned to sinders by a race called the tiidan awsome game!!!!!!

  • Sounds cool the game. Beautiful song for my ears

  • soft but epic...........

  • While this is the main theme on the Homeworld OST, I believe that it is actually "Agnus Dei" which is the eight-voice choral version of "Adagio for Strings" composed by Samuel Barber in 1936. I just felt that was worth noting. This track appears in lots of other media as well.

Fits the mood perfectly of the launch of the Mothership and Return to Kharak perfectly though.

  • It's really neat listening to all those voices when you're floating alone in the infinite vastness of space with nothing but yourself for company.

  • heh yeah u pretty much nailed it there.

  • true that

a lot better than talking to yourself...
