thing i never knew about movie..jc said the portion of the story regarding the false signal fire to sink the ship and recover the treasure was indeed true. they were not lepers though, and i am not sure about the boat and why the people on land did what they did.
anything is more effective and inspired than that bland and generic peice of trash. micheal bay movies are more inspired, and i never say that about anything
I didn't hear the Carpenter part until about 0:18; then I was like, "Ooooh! There we go!" I've downloaded many of his soundtracks/themes from YouTube via dirpy.com. The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Escapex2, Halloween, Christine, They Live - love this guy's (or whoever he hires) music!
@atariiiiable I hear ya, fella. The original was at least spooky. The next one, well... with it's addition to the story and plot, it lost the story altogether you might say. And with it, the spookiness that came with the original.
The film genuinely scared me the first time I watched it (age 14), and the theme is just fantastic. It's hypnotic, melodious and haunting. Love it. Thanks for uploading.
the fog, halloween, big trouble in little china are my favourites. he also done a homage to hitchcock, forgot the name, but was a good film. love this beat!
@Sznaxarna hallowenn is a homage to hitchcock?? sorry ur definitely wrong there its "someone's watching me" thats the film that was carpenter's homage to hitchcock. halloween was a teen slasher and not the original either, black xmas came before it. plus there was no hitchcock elements in halloween.
@999duhast I do very well know that Black Christmas was the first of the teen-slasher films. And the connections between Hitchcock and Halloween: Dr. Loomis has the same name as Marion's boyfriend in Psycho (Janet Leigh is mother of Jamie Lee Curtis). The theme of voyeruism, that's evident in many Hitchcock films (Rear Window, Psycho) is a very prominent part of Halloween, as Michael Myers is watching.
Baclk Christmas was first, but Halloween was the first copying Psycho.
@Sznaxarna the only relation to psycho and halloween is the mother and the daughter in the films... that alone does not make it hitchcockian, where is the wrongly accused man/woman?? dominant mothers, mistaken identities the list goes on... michael myers did not have a dominant mother we have no idea y he wanted to kill he was "born evil" bate's story is alot more complex and freudian. he doesn't wear a silly mask either n kill babysitters, there is nothing similar. but thts my opinion.
@999duhast Do read Vera Dika's essay "The Stalker Film 1978-81". If you study horrorfilm, like I do, you will see that there is one thing that always comes up, the connection between Psycho and Halloween.
@Sznaxarna thats my opinion, i just cant see the connection between the films. if you go to wikipedia and search for "hitchcockian films" a massive list comes up and halloween is not there. films like frantic, basic instinct and disturbia are there which you can see the hitchcock elements 2.
well these movies play on the surprise, but always the same key: a monster, or a thing, killing poor people who cant escape... but Carpenter is still a horror genius!
The soundtrack to this movie is some of the finest movie music ever made, and what a wonderfully stark theme............wondrous. But then again most of the music from Carpenters soundtracks are worth listening to.
I could send this music file to your e-mail adress if you want, I think I downloaded it on limewire, but I don't know if it's available there anymore :/
I think it's hard to give a ranking list with john carpenter's best movies, because all of them are good in their own ways and I don't think you can compare any of them with each other, but thats me :p
Carpenter, god of minimalism! Gosh, i LOVE his early tunes and movies. BTW...Compare this to the opening of "The Running Man" Main Theme and see where Harold Faltermeyer stole his also great tune, hehe...just like Golsmith stole the main theme from "Total Recall" from Basil Poledouris "Conan- Anvil of Crom". SO slightly changed...its so obvious in both cases. Hm, then again...great music is great music...and as long as it's good I don't care much, hehe...
I agree with anyone who thought the Halloween remake was fucking horrible.. in fact, I don't really enjoy any Rob Zombie movie! and The Fog remake could`ve been better.. alot better
the new fog was terrible...just like rob zombie fucked up halloween one of my favorite carpenter movie...john carpenter is a master in horror filmmaking...and his masterpieces are better left original
I totally agree with you, The Mist is an extremely good movie. Didn't do so well at the box office though and I think that was because of the twist at the end. I however thought the end was excellent. Loved it!!!
Awsome movie and excellent music. I did like the remake, but not as good as this one. The Fog remake was a good stand alone movie. One of the very view remakes that's descent. UNLIKE Zombie's "reimagining" of Michael Myers. That was just....white trash and october trash and Jack-o-Lantern trash and all trash! What do you expect from Zombie though? An Oscar-worthy drama? LOL!
Interestingly, in the DVD commentary, almost everything remotely scary in the Fog was added after the filmwas first shot. Makes you wonder what the heck happened in the original script! In anycase, it's a great ghost story, and this music certainly helped.
I didnt see teh remake simply because I liked the old one enough...whats the point of seeing remakes, especially if you know they are going to be bad?
i never saw Carpenter's The Fog but it looks pretty scary :S, the only movie i saw of his masterpiece was The Thing and i was pooping (and pissing) in my bed for like 2 months xD
We don`t have The Fog in Brazilian Movie Rooms, this movie don`t come into my TV guide and I don`t have cable TV. I will search this Fog in Internet or video stores.

I justed learned how to play this on keyboard; it is amazing!
Though dont you think all Carpenter themes are just the same little tune played in different keys.(e.g Halloween, The Thing)
(I dont mean they are ALL the same little tune, i just mean he made one up for each film and played it at different pitches)
But it's still a very, very epic theme.
