Hello Jat, I just happened to open your vid. I am a Cubase 6 user and have been with Cubase for many years. When I opened your vid. I expected the same old poor speaking brother sounding like the last poor ass speaking brother. I am impressed with your vids. You are doing a wonderful job man. I listen and viewed 1 and 2. good work. Oh by the way, I am a black brother too.
I had been looking everywhere for an explanation of how to lay background vocals and once they are laid how to properly mix them.
I am a solo artist and I do my own studio work. I had tried laying my vocal multiple times to try to create harmonies, but I kept screwing up the timing.
my questions are:
1) Do you have any advice on how you got your singer to lay the multiple takes and stay in time with the original take?
@mnash3 record it exactally how it was on the main vocals but with a slightly diff voice if possible.. the timing is off cuz ur doin it diff then the first layer u gotta get it down to where u can do it without it being off.. timing is never off cuz the studio if u record it all in the same session.. make sure u have OVERDUB on.. it plays the first track as u record the next layer.. thats juss a basic run down if u need more help message my account on here and ill help u further....
@ONEdwreck1987 - Thanks for the feedback. I am in the process of writing lyrics and laying vocals for my upcoming album; so I will try to some of your recommendations. Thanks again. Mark
Hey Man... Noticed your tag says DM4800? I just got one, and have it working 90% with Logic, just cant seem to get Timecode going on the meter bridge...
I had it working, but it only registered when it was playing, not when it was off, or rewinding/fastfwd... when i tried to see if I coudl fix that... I lost the timecode display alltogether.. any ideas as to how i can get it back???
I noticed you have compression before EQ in the bus. What is the advantage of having it that way as opposed to EQ first and then compression? I'm a beginner to Logic and I notice that EQ by default is first. Also, if you had to use a de-esser, where would that go in the effects chain?
dunno what kinda people you work with, but in my experience: one shitty background singer = 10 times the work, so from now on I only go with proper professionals
im so glad to finally find a video to help me with vocals! if only i could find one for the equipment im using! lol good job though man excellent tutorials!!

Good tutorials!
But remember to put your voice louder when you are playing the music.
SImply, it's impossible to hear properly.
Thanks

what do u do diffrent when mixing the lead vocal compared to the background vocals...does these same concepts apply to a rap artist and protools
mostlyricalmc 2 years ago
@mostlyricalmc its completely different.
Background vocals generally have more done to them ie. panning, reverb, effects etc.
