  • did your manifold ever crack or leak after you welded the t3 flange to it? its really funny but i got the same adapter,same problem then i saw your video! just thought id ask.

  • Check that out. Both the exhaust and air intakes are on the same side of the old datsun motors.

  • if you have a welder, you should just weld the whole adapter on. Then if you ever part it out just sell it on ebay as a gt35 manifold.

  • I loved the video, every second of it. I just learned that the intake/exhaust were on the same side of those engines, never seen that before on a piston engine. I'm surprised that you used that manifold with the 35R, its hideous! haha... I would think you'd go with an equal length tubular one with an upgraded turbo. What are the spool characteristics? Once again, sick car and great video.

  • how did you modify the exhaust downpipe

  • the exhaust was made for the Holset turbo, so when I put the garrett on the down pipe didn't line up. I had to cut it off and reweld it so it would line up. Its a 4 inch exhaust

  • that spinning it does when you cut off the car my ford f350 dually does that, it will do that for like 5 min after you cut it off lol its a 7.3L though lol

  • Where did you get that GT35-R.... it seems it'll be a while before I can afford anything but a T3/T04 (Garrett, not ebay knockoff). Must be nice to have ball bearings

  • I've heard that you can weld cast iron, but you have to super heat the metal before you do it. Get it absolutely red hot then weld it. That's how they use to repair cast iron bells long time ago.

  • if you want to put a turbo on your stock

    280zx, first you have to decide if you want a stock turbo setup are a aftermarket setup if you want a stock turbo setup, first you have to get a 81 to 83 280zx turbo exhaust manifold, afm,ecu, ecu wiring harness and a stock t3 turbo, if you want to go after market then you can go with a custom ext manifold, longwolf custom intake manifold, a gt35 or turbonetics turbo, and a haltech stand alone ecu, and maybe a 90 to 94 q45 throttle body and much more.

  • Hey Big Phil, I had a few questions if you don't mind... How do you like the performance of your gt35r? I'm really looking into getting one for my car ('02 Sentra Se-R). How much boost are you running on this turbo? This might be a dumb question but is there anything you DON'T like about this turbo? Anyways thanks Thanks for your help and hopefully I get a few answers from you. Appreciate it.

  • I'm running 17 lbs. About the only thing I don't like is it does not whistle as loud as the Holset did. It WAY out performes it in every other way.

  • I did that a couple times, but it keeps changing ha ha. I'll try again in my next video. I still have a ported head, Isky cam to put on!

  • i cant wait to go pick up my 280z, I am going to wait to dive into turboing it, but your car is an inspiration, my firsts are going to be an KAAZ 2 way R200 and suspension, but it'll take me some time, i love the way this car sounds

  • why didnt you just get four longer bolt to hold the turbo and adapter to the mani? that way you could eliminate the studs all together.

  • the waste gate hole does not allow bolts to go all the way through.

  • Nice Job Phil,

    That manifold welding will be fine as long as you got good penitration. The manifold is actually cast steel I believe and welds very good...you might have an issue with the adapter though but hopefully it is compatible. My welded manifold lasted without any issues.

  • Thanks man. It feels so bad ass. It is so much crazy better than the HY35. This is the best upgrade yet. My Isky cam should be here next week. Then the ported head/cam go on.

  • I think you should have just put in longer studs in that side, that way you would just have to use 4 nuts instead of 8, I just hope it works out for you and i hope to see you at the MSA show in Irvine , CA!
