BTW: If that's a GS then You spent WAY to much money on the swap....GS come's with the 420a The engine pictured in the begining was a 4G63...only coming in GST and GSX.

@Chrisbavnild the 1997 mitsubishi eclipse GS pumps out about 140 HP stock....ive heard of people geting around 350 HP out of a 420a NON turbo'ed...but with that comes with a $15,000+ price tag and a race team.....with rebuild's every 500 miles or so.

No matter what model you get. 98's are still sharp cars. Some people just wanna cruise. A "GS" as I own, does the job. Clean, comfy leather, all the amenities...AND gets pussy. Just my opinion. Furthermore the cars already look hot bone stock. Upgrading things that are not worth upgrading for performance, grows old after age 19. GSX for speed freaks, otherwise these ones are just sexxy cruisers. Save money from your fart can muffler , and launch pad WING, and these can be cool rides.

the 420A doesnt compare to the 4G63 Turbo, the turbo can have basic upgrades like intake and exhaust cams, full header/exhaust sytem, and a cold air intake, and have around 170 whp whereas you do that to the 420A and you'll only have 120 whp give or take. GSX will kill it...

the gs is awful. ive owned all 3 2nd gens (97 gs, 98gs-t, and 95 gsx) nothing compares to the gsx.. the 420a's sucks and the only bad thing with the gs-t is its wrong wheel drive

not a gs, timing belt on a gs or rs is on the other side, thats the 4g63t motor, not a 420a motor that the gs/rs comes with

No its not....The GST has the 4g63t the RS and GS have the 420a. And i know this for a fact im not just some nerd chiming in. Go to any decent DSM forum and ask this and what i say will be confirmed for you.

The differance between the RS and GS trim is the GS has more options like cruise control and all that. The RS is pretty much just a stripped down GS or in other words its the base model. from 1995 up both the RS and GS had the 420a. The first generation GS however had a naturaly asperated 4g63.

Being that all of these cars are so old and people mod them so much, your best bet would be to get your VIN# off of your title or off of your car (its on both) and just type it in on the carfax site. Its free and it will tell you what it is.

Also if you wanted to you could get a history report from carfax and find out what all has happend with your car over the years. I always do that when i get a new DSM, However i will tell you Autocheck is cheaper but sometimes has fewer records.

You'll hear mixed reviews on that one, I would get the GSX as you would have the AWD and overall a better car when built. I know a guy on the forums that tries to defend the 420a turbo for this and that reason but when down comes to down the 4g63t owns all. Not to mention its more expensive to make a 420a turbo (required and supporting mods) than it is to buy a AWD model and upgrade it. whatever power the 420a cars will make is held back by the FWD, the weight shifts back and you lose traction.

I'll continue, The GST and GSX are the only 2nd gen models to have the turbo 4g63 in them. The GST is FWD and the GSX is AWD. Then of course you have the other rebranded versions like the Talon sold under the eagle brand and the Laser sold under plymouth.
