LOL! I learned a lot from you when you made that post. I can't believe so much time has passed. :-) I need to figure out how to change the title of this video to "pileated".
I have one that hangs around my house? I live in wisconsin and he is a pretty sight for me to see?I rarely ever have seen one up close he has been around our trees in the front yard, I get all excited when i see him he is huge and pretty. will they eat from birdfeeders??? if so what do they eat and like?
TenStarsplus !!!!!! That is either a Pilieated woodpecker, or an extremely rare Ivory Billed Woodpecker, which is believed to be extinct!! You should notify your DNR of your sighting, to find out which one it is especially if you live in Arkansas!!! Thanks for posting this beautiful video!!! We have Pileateds up here in Michigan, but I've never seen one closer than 150 yards and only when I was duck hunting in a flooded woods!!! TenStarsplus!!!
I had one of these in my backyard yesterday and it was hugr. My wife took a photo don't no how well it will turn out (35MM). We live in Ohio 35 miles south of Cleveland I didn't think they were in Ohio but I have the holes in the rotted tree to prove it LOL. How rare are they?
Wow...came across the video and thought i would comment to let you know its a pileate and I see I did three years ago! guess I like birds too much

@Ozarkians Yes just go to "my videos" in your account then click on edit. I changed the title of the one little video I have a while back.

@barbj7121
I have not seen them eat from birdfeeders. It seems like they enjoy the bugs in older trees, or in the bark.

That would actually be a pileated. Red heads are smaller and solid red head. Nice vid though!

Technically its a pileated woodpecker. One of the largest. The now presumedly extinct ivory billed was a tad bigger. Nice shot though!
