On December 10, 2005, nine days after his birthday, Pryor suffered a heart attack in Encino, California. He was taken to a local hospital after his wife's attempts to resuscitate him failed. He was pronounced dead at 7:58 am PST. He was 65 years old. His widow Jennifer was quoted as saying, "At the end, there was a smile on his face."[26] He was cremated and his ashes were given to family.
@Madams1977 Aye he tried to get clean even stated it on stage one night and was getting heckled for it. (lokk under Richard Pryor vs Auidence around 2 min into it. He was a good man. We all have our problems some are more detrimental than others. I flet for him the night he tired to tell the crowd he didntt want o drink-n-drug anymore. To take the time to do Seeame street tells how much he loved kids. He had a great personality.
he died from complications from MS - his immune system ws probably compromised by his years of drug use and alcohol abuse and i believe he had a heart attack in the end.

Yes he died on December 10, 2005. On the internet it says that he died from drug overdose and/or by heart attack. So it's hard to know which one he died from.
This is an example of Pryor's complexity. Even when he was at his raunchiest, he was ALWAYS really popular with kids. This is one of the things that separates Pryor from his nearest peers. While my parents were listening to albums like WANTED and BICENTENNIAL N*****, I was seeing him on Sesame Street and the Muppet Movie. In the 80s, he even had his own Saturday Morning show...and did a bunch of kid-friendly movies
And after that, show us what you look like when you are calm. Befor 'sober' he was demonstrating what he looks like when he faints. So: happy, sad, scared, mad, faint, sober, calm!
This is just beautiful. Richard had a softness 2 him under that hard personal he portrayed. Richard was so BRILLIANT and TALENTED. He also did a segment on the show saying the ABC'S. He was so SEXY just by sayin the ABC's. If that's not SEXY,I don't know what is. RIP Richard Pryor
I can't believe the same man that said the "F word" more than 2 million times was actually allowed on Sesame Street. That would never happen nowadays because not everyone had access to Richard Pryor's stand up material and the public was'nt so whiny back then.
Yeah but its not like he swore and junk. As a child I envied Pryor and I never heard any of his stand up. I was familiar with his mainstream work. Plus the man had kids of his own so ofcourse he'll have mercy on Sesame Street.
Other celebrities have been on Sesame Street who normally use the "F" word. Robin Williams and Robert De Niro come to mind right off the bat. I can't remember but I think Eddie Murphy was also on Sesame Street.
Those are the men that I remember being a big part of my formative Sesame experience. If that doesn't go a long way to explain what happened to my television generation, I don't know what would.
i love these little free-for-alls, where it just snowballs into a random assortment of crazies throwin spitballs at each other. were it not for this video would we ever converse? who can tell who will join us next? it is a mystery!

The '70s was a truly awful time. Like a chained bear dancing to the sound of an organ grinder, the black man was made to perform these humiliating shows for the amusement of the white man. His humanity stripped of him, he was allowed only to display four basic emotions during his performance: "happy", "sad", "scared", and "mad"; simple emotions that were supposed to be caricatures of the rich and complex emotions that the white man is supposedly capable of displaying.
Richard was a good comedian??? Richard Pryor=the funniest comedian EVER! That's like saying Jimi Hendrix was a good guitarist, or Da Vinci was a good painter, or Albert Einstein was kind of smart.
Ohh weird. Maybe it's just the video and stuff and maybe he had like one rehearsal but he looks pretty wasted. Like he does in some standups from maybe the same time when he's all dancy and jittery like Sly Stone.
That was a photo of Ernie. Do you remember the eight boxes (puzzle) that made up the photo? They flew on to the screen mixed up, then they would slide around until the puzzle was made.
