I always got the 3 years used PC's my dads school used. Those were already lower end 3 years before they bought them. And I tried to play every 2 year old game on it. It taught me ALOT mainly English but I have a great computer experience because of it. Now I'm using my 5 year old PC and keep tweaking it. Runs most new games great. Only game I'm having real issues with is Blackops And spiderman web of shadows (it's crap though).

I thank my 6-y-o lower end PC's for that.

I think one of the most awesome things about pc's is the ability to overclock and push your system to the limits.. Thats what I used to do, and its a lot of fun, I was running a Core i5 750 @ 4GHZ! prime stable.. was also running Snow Leopard on it.. But switched to imac primarily because awesome design and IPS screen.. also of course clutter free... keep in mind im also a serious web designer, overclocking is more of a hobby so thats why i got an imac.. but yeah I mean PC's are great aswell
