American EMS has its roots in past wars from American combat medics, something Canadians wouldn't know anything about, so that explains your country's unrealistic approach.
A Degree in Paramedical science to do exactly what in the field?? Havoc your an idiot and obviously don't know what your talking about, a degree is not required for advanced prehospital care or to perform ACLS treatment modalities and in trauma definitive care is in the Operating room. Were not doctors asshole were Paramedics, You can get your degree and shove it up your ass.
Holy shit people. Do you expect a layman to know the difference between CFR, CFR-D, EMT-B, EMT-I/85, EMT-I/99, EMT-P and EMT-P/CC? If you do, consider yourself an EMS whacker. I don't think the faintees cared what she was as long as she did something.
she probably made no interventions at all, she knows she didn't help at all, o let me pull these medical supply's out of my ass and use them to save your life
LOL Paramedic Training in the states is a joke... Here in Canada Paramedics can undergo a 4 year Bachelor degree program in Science specializing in Paramedicine. They can under go an additional year or 2 to specialize in Critical Care/Advanced Life Support. Either way to be the highest level of a paramedic in canada you must undergo 4 years of Higher education. In other countries such as Australia or England paramedics also have Degrees in Paramedicine or Paramedical science.
she was a pre-hospital health care provider.... weather or not she was called a medic or an emt is irrevalent she acted when she didnt have to and assisted fellow citizens with care, to the best of her ability and scope of practice.... besides it was not the proper time or place to correct the president elect ..... i hold both emt and medic certs in three different states as well as nationally...get off ur pedistal and give credit where credit is due! we are all vital part in the ems system
@tdhooge how so? And you do know that a paramedic has to go to school for EMT-B first before they can become a Paramedic so saying that EMT's save paramedics butts is stupid their the same thing except a paramedic has more training than a EMT-B
Many things...First to make sure the person is still breathing and has a pulse(and resuscitate her if she doesnt). If so, keep the victim's airway open....also gather important details such as the medical history. Monitor the person and make sure she doesnt get worse (if she already is/did get worse, the EMT is gonna have to make decisions).Fainting can be caused by anything, its good the victim was treated by a specialist in the prehospital setting.
I like how he was completely calm about the situation and didn't seem to care. He didn't seem to try and do anything about it or go over to the girl and see if she was okay. He was just like, "are you a paramedic?" and then said "okay" and went on with his speech.
Sorry, I forgot, you Americans are a lot more tolerant of overweight people in uniforms because you see it all the time. Up here in Canada, there is more pride in wearing a uniform and representing an organization like EMS, and it starts with taking pride in yourself. Ma'am! Put down the cream puff and patatoe chips!
Yeah, well when these overweight people are saving your life, you usually don't give a damn what they look like. Even the most prejudice, racist bastard gets past physical looks when the person is saving his life, or making it better. Yeah, 'you Canadians' must really take pride in how you look. But hey, as long as they look good in the uniform, it shouldn't matter if they can save your life, huh? I don't care if the person is five hundred pounds. If they're saving me, I appreciate it.
I don't know how it is up north, but as an EMT-B working on a MICU, I have to eat fast food or eat on the go, because we NEVER know when a call may come in. The result: guts that appear out of nowhere and dinners which have gone through more processing than most computers.
Plus, tbh, if the person has completed the necessary training and is saving your life, why should you give a flying fuck about their weight, you sperficial douchebag?
Go tell that to my crew chief and watch him kick your ass. Weights got nothing to do with it. He could probably treat a patient allot better than you.
Wow bled12345. I dunno if you are just trying to get a reaction but that is 110% stupid. Do you know the treatment for heat exhaustion? Or dehydration? Move them out of the hot environment, lay them down, give them some cool drinks? Not everyone needs an IV. Grow up.
Oh damn, you're right bled12345! I mean it is so freakin' hard to read treatment for heat exhaustion in any Paramedic text book. We def need to be ALS to remove pt. from the hot environment and give replacement fluids... OH,oh right, I suppose you're one of those freakin' keeners who carries a little IV kit on your 'offduty' belt. You American EMT -wannabes are all the same - security guards of the EMS world. OH my GOD, GCS 15 and slightly diaphoretic! 2mg Midazolam PR for poss. seizure control!
hahhahaha, sorry i'm from canada, I forgot Basics are utilized alot more in America. In Canada, the only job you'll get is working as an EMR on an oil rig.
And no I'm not a keener, but I am a professional, and a 2 week 700 $ course does NOT slide you into a profession. So sorry if I'm irritated by seeing an overweight, soft spoken lady that took a 2 week course, who probably BARELY passed highschool, represent *MY* profession.
um, EMT basic class is 18 weeks, paramedic is a year and a half. Then after that you need 80 hours ER time, and several more weeks of on the job training. In, most states you need to be an EMT for over a year before you can get medic, so that you just dont "slide into it"
2 weeks? My EMT course was five months. A 2 week EMT course in the United States usually goes 8-10 hours a day for the two weeks and is referred to as "EMS Boot Camp". From what you're saying, it definitely sounds as if there is an inconsistency in the level of training for EMT-Bs in the US and EMT-Bs in Canada. I know a lot of EMT-Bs who are total idiots, but I also know a lot who are better at ALS than some medics.
I spent 60 hours a week in school for 10 months to get my paramedic, after a year of basic and intermediate training (full-time). I think more soft spoken people in this profession would be a really good thing. Her weight is neither here nor there.
Maybe those kinds of shortcuts are taken in Canada, but not here. To go from being uncertified to being a paramedic here takes 2 years. And I'll agree that she is overweight and that does seem to be an issue that needs to be corrected by many EMT's and paramedics, but her size is by no means an indication of her intelligence. Being superficial, however, is an indication of the level of intelligence of the one who is being superficial.
@bled12345 , in The US, EMT BASIC is 6 months, EMT I 3 months PARAMEDIC 18 months. SOOOO here in the US by the time you get your "Paramedic" thats 2yrs college, Canda can shut theor pompus mouths...
These people aren't fainting because of Obama-mania, but because with prolonged standing, such as one might do at a crowded political rally, blood is pooling in their legs, leading to an exaggerated nerve response called vasovagal syncope. I am a medical student in training to be a pediatric cardiologist. I was 10 feet from a woman who fainted at an Obama event in Youngstown this week, and I can tell you she was not reacting to overwhelming love for the candidate but to simple physiology.
Folks we now have 7 people fainting while Obama speaks at different rallies. And he is using the same scripted speech each time. "I think someone has fainted?" "Is their an EMT in the audience?", "Can you give the person some space". Coincidence? Hmmmm?
I'm just the messenger here, as is youtube. You've got the problem not seeing this happening 7 times now as a strange coincidence. The Clinton campaign will soon jump on this story, as will the MSM. So you can swear at them too.
Funny how he always spots these people in the crowd and responds in the same manner. Anyone that thinks these fainter's are for real probably thinks that those girls in those old Beatles videos were actually fainting...
Ya Think? It is more than likely hysteria, like the Pentecostal snake worshippers speaking in tongues and being "possesed". I've been to larger, higher density, hotter gatherings than this, with little or no water, smoke filled dancehalls, overpacked by 500+, and people have not "fainted". Maybe they're "fainting" because they didn't turn on the AC in their bio-diesel Prius in an effort to be "green", or could it be lack of nutrition from their vegan lifestyle.
Fake! The guy's an empty suit and completely full of himself. A complete turnoff. Thinks he's JFK of MLK, but in reality he's nothing but a politician with a razor thin resume.
Um. Have you SEEN the videos of people fainting at Clinton's speeches? Both Bill and Hillary?
People faint at hot, crowded events where people are excited. See: sporting events, concerts, etc. I've been to political rallies many times this year, for three candidates. At EACH one, someone passed out.
No. I have not seen the vids of the other fake "fainters", but just the fact that there was "fainters" at Bill and Hillary's speeches just goes to show that it is political trickery. How many times has this happened? And if Obackarama was any kind of leader he would've advised the organizers to thin and spread the crowd, and maybe with all the money he raises on a daily he could afford to pass out some bottled water.
It's not fake, you moron. I've BEEN at political rallies this year for FOUR candidates - the fricking EMT's show up, for God's sake. It happens at BIG, CROWDED EVENTS. If you want to talk about "fake" incidents, try Clinton planting questions in her audience, which is something that's actually been PROVEN, as opposed to INSINUATED, without any evidence. Is this SERIOUSLY the only thing you people can come up with?
Once again. Hysteria and hypochondria. Look at me! I fainted! You can be in perfectly fine health and claim to have a heart attack in front of an EMT and they'd have to check you out it, it is their job. I agree with you about Clinton's (not Slick Willy, Slippery Hillary) politrickery. You say you've been to see 4 candidates, then you know they're all up to something. I'll forget the insult. I'm no moron. Please try me.
To answer your question I do leave the house. I was just heading to the park to bbq w/ mis amigos on this lovely SoCal day. With the "JacqueOffs" we have currently running for office and the people who vote for them, this will probably be one of the last times I can enjoy a Sunday in peace. I think it is time Michael Savage aka Michael Wiener runs for prez. Just as soon as he's done defeating the Council On American Islamic Retribution/Retaliation aka CAIR.
