  • I luv this version so much

  • sorry @2:30 lol

  • I love that little shouting step she does at 3:30, you go Mama Ree LOL

  • Was this broadcast on Canadian television?

  • heavenly wooooooww tears to my eyes soul touching how cant you like this the queen of soul......the queen period.

  • Aretha is the real McCoy....many wanna bes have come over the years and people are always trying to compare these younger singers to her....but Aretha is a rare talent and til this very day she stands in a class all by herself. An amazing gift from GOD is what she is.

  • The opening is amazing omg, goosebumps..to say priceless seems an understatement..who can dislike this..who are ya.....

  • the best voice in the world!!

  • happy birthday in retrospect-great to see and hear you in such good shape-is it maybe because we singers have learned to say a little prayer from you-even when the water is troubled-take it to the bridge-what can I say-godmother to great godchildren and godmother of soul for all.A rose is still a rose.send you all my love

  • Aretha, can make you cry. Take you to so many worlds. She has that working woman's voice that can not be challenged. Painful, soulful, amazing, incredible, untouchable. I hope she gets her health back and amazes us once again like she used to be able to. All Respect. Full Respect. Just plain, RESPECT!

  • @ericcarroll23 I agree.... Her and Patti have that power till this day. True Soul Singers...

  • The best version!! farrr

Get well SOON dear!.... we never forget YOU!! from Holland!

  • The best version!! farrr

  • This is what was missing from last nites 2011 awards, the notion of prayer and faith not just pretty makeup and full figures. Talent was in question too. Are you going to block me again, you know from the freedom of expression campaign.

  • The genius of Ms. Aretha! I really hope Jennifer Hudson gets to portray her in the upcoming movie about her life....word is that Aretha wants Halle B. for the part, but I think J Hud would fit much better!

  • tutto è nato da questi fantastici anni! grazie Aretha!

    è stata rifatta da MethodMan e Mary J.Blige ....

    thank Aretha

  • There is no music better than this. One wonders whether there will ever be. God bless Aretha Franklin.

  • This is call a real concert: band, backup singers on point!

I heard many versions on this songs, but not like this. She can sang!!

  • I can't resist a SLAMMIN' background! They are KILLIN'!!!!

  • Love this, just heard it on the radio. Never knew this song, only the Mary J Blidge version.

  • Love this.

  • Legendary...

  • The soprano sounds as if she should be singing in someone's church choir. I LOVE IT!!!

  • Nuttin like da Queen long live the Queen

  • Long live the QUEEN

  • Damn! Sing it Aretha!

  • I can't watch this over and over. The introduction is amazing. There isn't real music like this anymore. Bless Aretha's vocal ability!!

  • the 1970's when there was still some REAL music and voices to sing with incomparable talent. Only few singers can claim to have something comparable to those sould singers of then... And those who have vaguely attempted to sing those songs have shown great disrespect for the era and the likes of MS Franklin

  • the 1970's when there was still some REAL music and voices to sing with incomparable talent. Only few singers can claim to have something comparable to those sould singers of then...

  • awesome !!!!!!!!!! groovy inspired cracking xx

  • holy shit. does it get better than this?

  • A prime Queen of Soul live performance. From the percussion pronounced arrangement, to the money green pulpit inspired divine robe...the Queen is bringing many of her gifts to bestow on her subjects in this thrilling performance. All Hail

  • wow...this never gets old...their voices are anoited !!!!

  • I just don't get it...the first part is just talking (and too quiet), not sustaining any notes, and then there's yelling.

    I don't get it.

I wonder what she remembers about being that young, and that small.

  • Why is she dressed like a monk from 16th c France?

  • @rellenoz cause she's the QUEEN and she can do 'dat.

  • Awesome.

  • Watching this worries me. I don't think we have anyone right now that is as great as the singer that at least came from the 70s. No one is going to take over when these fab people pass on....sad...sad....sad...

  • @MsFrankie98 I know what you mean. The closest we have is Mary J. Blige, maybe Mariah. Whitney, too, but her voice is pretty much gone.

  • @MsFrankie98 There are some great gospel singers but they either don't want to cross over or they're not marketable to a mass audience. Also it seems that people want sex appeal and gimmicks instead of a voice.

  • I was feelin that.....A LOT.

  • Ms. Franklin, always seems to take us to church, I'm love'n it. Keep'em coming.

    Thanks!

  • Anyone know the instrument that sounds like ducks quacking at 3:43 onward? Please and thank you.

  • @AnnaMaeBullock

It sounds like a slappy bass too me

  • @AnnaMaeBullock

it's a keyboard called "Hohner clavinet"

  • SANGGGGGGG lmao!

  • luv this performance !!

  • oooh u all I NEED 2 get by @@!!!

  • This is such a good song! Written and first sung by Ashford & Simpson and then Marvin Gaye & Tami Terrell back 1968, then Dionne Warwich in 1969, Diana Ross in 1970, then this version by Aretha in 1971, then Johnny Mathis & Denice Williams, then Gloria Gaynor in the late 70s, then Method Man & Mary J. Blige in 1995, Bootsy Collins in 2000, then Michael Macdonald in 2004...Anyone else cover this song? Quite a song, no?

  • @mrob75 A&S seem to have written many classics...I'm sure they're sitting on some very strong piles of money these days without even having to lift a finger.

  • just fantastic..

  • this lady is awesome

  • I discovered this song nearly 20 years ago in jr high. I found my dad's 45 of it. What turned me on to it was an episode of The Wonder Years when they played I Got You by Sonny & Cher. This song reminded me of it ... in some way!

  • Wow this rendition is awesome :-D

  • The greatest voice in human history...bar none!

  • @BOUTHALAZIZ1 when you are right. you are right. detroit.

  • @BOUTHALAZIZ1 while I agree she is amazing, Gladys Knight (for me) gives her a run for her money lol

  • Aretha sound's beautiful.

  • Top Diva!!!!

  • Seems a little silly to compare. It's kind of like comparing gold medals for winning 2 similar but different events.

You've 2 got winners, not one winner and one loser.

  • GODDESSSS...

  • Woulda been nice if the background vocals were by the Sweet Inspirations. These girls aren't keeping up with Ree!

  • The Sweethearts of Soul are just as amazing as The Sweet Inspirations. These girls are amazing and can for show hang with Aretha.

  • I didn't know their name. Thanks for that. But either the tape is bad or the Sweethearts of Soul are a bit out of tune.

  • I'm referring to the beginning of the song. The woman singing the top note is off in the first phrase and at 0:17. After that, they are in good shape. I think the mix is not very good tho, but that's the sound tech's fault.

  • I don't think they are out of tune. You see the Sweethearts Of Soul had been Aretha's backup singer since 1971 after the Sweet Inspirations. They are just as amazing. They are my favorite of the two backing group. They knew how to hang with Aretha.

  • I don't think they're out of tune either.

The harmonies at the start definitely sound different though.

  • ...also forget about clothes...and stuff..jus listen to the voice....this is classic 'reatha...sang it.

  • Deeply grateful for this....queen of soul may she reign forever

  • soooo great

  • yea, this is when that voice was something no one had ever heard before. Just unreal, really...

  • Aretha was never known for her sense of fashion. Thank you for posting this, its my favorite song of her.

  • AMEN!!! LOL

  • Personally I like what she's wearin'.

  • I'll have to agree with you on that, her inaugural song is proof of that.

  • Very good she really can sing , but whats going on with the green monk outfits .... LOL

  • perfect!!!

  • OMG flawless nothing more to say!

  • Sing it, Ree!!!!

  • yeah you fuckin' arsehole - thanks for giving away a dvd of mine that i purchase - how much you gonna send me you crettin!
