There are many comments and suggested remedies on the internet about this exact problem. Before you launch into anything try re-setting the ECM by disconnecting the negative battery connection for 30 minutes, then re-connect and re-start the engine. A bad battery may also be the culprit.
I suggest anyone dealing with these thype of "ghost problems" first try the 30 minute battery disconnect method before launching on to other remedies.
Hey could you tell me what fixed this for you? My 2006 larado is doing the same thing! Spent 800 bucks and still stalls? Should we replace the cam shaft position sensor like other people are saying in the coments???
hi, i have a question, im planning to buy Jeep but im stuck with my decision. First of all that would be my first car and i really have no idea about cars. I have question about Grand cherokee 2005 and Grand cherokee 2004 which one is better,
My 2007 Escalade used to stall when coming to a stop in drive. Dealer couldn't figure it out. They replaced the cam sensor, did a fuel injection cleaning service (throttle body too, I think), and then finally replaced the battery. It did not do it again.
I had the same issue in my 07 Grand Cherokee (135.000Km around 85.000Miles). That's happens because the PCM overheats and is a common case in 05-07 Grand Cherokees (I don't know if the 2008-2010 model has this issue too). I covered my PCM with a heat insulating material and that fixed it temporarily for a few months... I guess it's time to buy a new PCM.
Mine did the same thing. Get a new computer modual at any parts store cost about 200.00, takes 10 minutes to put it on its located on the firewall behind the radiator resevrour other possibility is the throttle position sensor. but it looks more like the computer module. easy fix but most agravating (I know). Jeep is notorious for electronic problems and computer issues, (
Dealing with this problem myself. It just keeps getting worse. Did you figure it out? Today, I actually couldn't get it restarted right away - no electrical at all. My mechanic is looking for any shorts. He says battery and alternator are fine. We had already changed the regulator and plugs and wires, to no avial.
I had this problem too for 6 months.s and had three dealers try different things. Mine only stalled when I came to a stop and was fine in between. It turned out to be the transmission believe it or not and traced back to serviceing where they did not put in enough tranny fluid and when you stopped there was not enough fluid in the clutches and it stalled. I did not have leaks so never thought to check it out. Good luck with your problem
The same thing happened tome and the problem was that they needed to reset the computer and change the battery, now after that it never happened to me again, i have a V8 4.7, the battery show that it was good but the main problem was the battery.
Gentlemen, this might sound bizzare but try changing the spark plugs!!! I had exactly the same problem of random stalling. I thought that Platinum would be the best but it caused me nothing but headaches with trip after trip to the dealership. I finally decided to change back to the O.E.M copper plugs and have not had the problem in 15 months!!!
Gas, Plugs, filters are not the issue. The fluctuation in idle speed is controlled by the computer. What's hooked up to the computer?? Anyone..Anyone, Bueller? That's right..SENSORS!! Bad sensor or a short in one of the connecting wires and/or computer.
My Dakota with the same 4.7 stalled once in the 8 months I've had it. Didn't do it when stopping on the road but when I was backing up to turn around in the drive way, and its so friggin smooth running that I didn't even notice untill I put it in D and pressed the accelerator lol.
change idle motor, egr valve, and eng temp sensor. same condition. should have checked the trans level. really. I mean duh...why didn't I think of that.... good luck to all of you with this problem.
i have an 05 grand cherokee 4.7L V8 and it would stall out in idle and i would have trouble starting it. check the engine temp sensor, i had the engine temp sensor replaced and i havent had a problem since.
Hey bro it may be the gas you are using. I have the same Jeep (V8 5.7L Hemi) and I was having the same problem. Try switching up the gas you are using.
sounds like a 4.7L . Our 2002 durango did the EXACT same thing. that was a couple years back now , but it did it for a while . new air flow sensor did the trick
Most likely there a bad chip in the engine since its 2007 everything is operated with a computer of some sort so thats my guess but i'm not a car expert so i could be wrong
my jeep kept stalling at cutting out while sitting in traffic it turned out that the carbretior was faulty but jeep fixed immediatly and didnt charge me as i had only had the car for 2 months
I have One word For you LEMON..Check your States Lemon Laws Esspecially if you bought the Vehicle New... But my Guess IAC Valve.. Assuming is Fuel Injected Obviously..It Really can't Really be figured out this way but something is making your vehicle have a Inconsistent Idle...There has to be something wrong cause your ECU gathers the Information from your vehicle as you drive and helps maintain consistent Idle..But Yeah Make sure you check your States Lemon Laws
What ended up being the problem?

Jeeps are known for many annoying problems. As soon as one thing is fixed, another thing comes up.

flux was not cleaned off crank sensor now u have this
Fossillarson 5 months ago
You need a new Crankshaft Position Sensor. That will fix it.

Sounds to me that you need to put some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank.

My 2003 Grand Cherokee does the same thing. I have been researching this issue and found out it is most likely the Crankshaft Position Sensor.
