  • how to you customize a brushh?? and how come you have so many? are they almost the same?

  • @LarrythePlaty you change the opacity and the size and the hardness...

like, on my compy it's on the right side.

there are so many only because i have duplicates.

  • eh...question: my brush is really different from yours...the two points of the line i draw by brush are really rounded..and your lines for shading got kinda pointed points....hope you understand what i mean (>.<) dunno how to change it...

  • How much does it take for you to do a recording for 9 minutes? Mine takes awfully long. :]

  • does the marker blend come with the basic sai?

  • @FireEthereal it's a modified marker tool. :'D

  • lol jk

  • i donno how to shade ahhhhhhhhhhh!

  • I have a question,how do you make a brush?

  • @Stickwolf14 right click on a bush, click duplicate, change the name, and customize it. viola.

  • Now i must shorten my comment -_- so my questions are 1. What tool do u blend with? And how would u reccomend blending? 2. How do u make the lineart so perfect and un pixelly? And 3. What resoluion/ canvas size do u end with, usually? My pics always end up rly blurry and crapfilled. Thnxxxx!

  • @Twiliwings

    1. a whole bunch of different tools. [blur, marker, water color and lots of customs. yes. marker. set it on low]

    2. answer in no.3

    3. really high resolution. usually around 3000x4000 on average. sometimes larger. this canvas was around 2000x2000. trust me, when i zoom in i looks like crap lol. when you upload it, [dA or tinypic] have it crop to no more than 1024x1024. your lines will look crisper then.

if you've got any other questions, let me know ouo

  • um..... well the part that Im frustated about is that when the layers are under the lineart layer I can't color it =.=... When the colors layer are above the lineart layer it appears (The color) Its frustating me --'' what should I do about it?

  • @SuzaLulu2 sounds liek the lineart layer is not transparent. if that's the case, then set that layer mode [lineart] to multiply. there are other ways to do it but i'd prefer to show it via livestream because they're much more complicated. PM me if you'd like more info ^^

if you draw the lineart yourself, sai automatically has it set to transparent, so if you draw it yourself, then you won't have this problem.

  • @XiranSama oh yeah thanks! I found the solution and I can draw happily ^O^

  • HELP me (yes I'm a beginner D:)

My paint tool SAI has got only few brushes... Why the hell is that o_O? Should I download them or whoooot?

  • @reharuko hihi~

okay. those brushes that you see over there are modified babies that were either downloaded from random places that i don't know about anymore or i made them on my own.

and this was nearly two years ago. you're on your own when it comes to those, love. i've changed comptuers, since my other one broke, so i can't even email the files anymore OTL

IF you manage to find them....let me know.

    -xi

  • Soooo Many BRUSHES !!

  • umm, how do you make it so that the brush makes the lines sharp??? HELP!!!

  • @Alphabeta231 CAPS LOCKS DOESN'T HELP!!!!! /slap'd

anyway. there are lots of methods. when i made this video i used the pen tool, but now i've switched to the airbrush...

for pen tool: 'hard' option. 3.0px size for 1000x1200 canvas. density = 100

for air brush [comes out nicer, trust me]: second to hardest option. 12.0px size for 1000x1200 canvas. density = 30-45 [depending on what you're drawing]

the rest is experimental. in fact, i shouldn't be telling you this. you should figure it out alone

  • Hi really nice coloring

but can you explain ><" how did u do the hair and the glow from minute 7 slower

  • @ZARAKI979 your question's a tad unclear.... if you re-phrase it, maybe i'll be able to help you out.

  • WHO CAN READ THAT FAST?! >_<

  • This song shud be in DDR =3. Well thanks for the tutorial anyway =]

  • (1:12-1:21)

    HOW are you doing that?

    >_<

  • @darklordprophecy [on lineart layer]: select {wand tool} then go to the skin layer {beneath the lines} and use the paint bucket tool to fill it in

    make sense?

  • @XiranSama kinda..

use the wand tool on the area inside the line art, flip to skin layer, than fill it in? is that correct?

  • @XiranSama oh thank you so much, this saves me a lot of time. this tutorial has been very helpful.

here is what I was working on while taking tips from this vid, its a WIP:

    raineth5.deviantart(dot)com/art/Absol-so-far-WIP-216529255

  • @XiranSama how do you deslect the darn magicwand? xP

  • @lolsa123 press alt and then click

  • @XiranSama thx :D

  • i love how u made her hair sort of electric looking. wow!

  • um how do you make the line without um the fuzyness

  • I cant figure out how to make clean line-art like that, where do I start? and after that how did you color without affecting the lineart, other areas of the face, or the background? your shading is superb, I have just figured out what "luminosity" is.

  • @darklordprophecy after sketching, make a new layer, label it "lineart". there you draw a lineart, which is, basically a sketch with MUCH less lines. and use thin lines while you're at it. so after that's done, make new layers UNDERNEATH the lineart layer and color there. that's why the lines aren't affected. hope that made sense lol.

  • this tutorial is helpful, I am just not following it though Xd. when you started coloring the hair, I was like waoh!!!!! how are you coloring the hair without it touching the person's face? would it have anything to do with that "Preserve Opacity"? I have a hard time figuring that out. how would the program know which Opacity to preserve? Xd this soooooooo confusing, maybe I will get this in five years.

  • @darklordprophecy Google a tutorial about Layers, that should help you to figure things out if you haven't already.

  • Thanks i can now color at ease, i didn;t know you could actually "panel" Thats what i call it, another layer =3= so i sucked at coloring, lol

  • Hi there, this tutorial was really useful. :) May I know what tool and size do you use for your lineart?

  • @PrettyFloraEnchantix ehh. i changed my lineart style just recently... i think this was somewhere between 0.7 and 1.2 on a big canvas.

  • wow..this is awesome stuff!!!

  • i love the way you colour the hair....sugoi!

  • Program?

-- first word in title, dumbass

The first word in the title is Xiran. ;D

  • @behappiful lol that's cuz i edited the title and forgot to edit the description >u>

+1 free internet for you, sir.

  • @XiranSama

    You, sir, deserve a cookie.

  • awesome tutorial realy helpful :)

  • How can you have so many tools

  • How did you put down that background color?

  • @redfoxskater you mean the green stuff?

it's the bottom-most layer, filled in with the bucket tool.

  • @XiranSama oh gosh. haha Now I feel dumb. lol

  • i don't get how you make them blue to color in. D:

  • @IAboutToEatCha wand tool [forgot default shortcut] or select brush.

  • lol gods here gods there gods everywhere!

    i envy everybody T^T

  • can you please tell me how to get/make brushes like marker blend and water color blend?

  • @tnguy245 woops never mind. sorry about asking

  • where did u get the extra tool?

  • really learn a lot thanks for uploading such vid..

  • how did you make your video fit full screen?

  • @beibei51596 you mean make SAI full screen?

    hit "Tab"

  • @XiranSama no when you created/ recorded your video

what program did you use to edit your video and make it big and clear to watch?

  • @beibei51596 Camstudio. Google it; it's the first link :D

  • @beibei51596 You can make it HD, and he probaly speeded it up with another kind of progam. :'3

  • @cocoisgek i'm a girl.... OTL

/recorded in HD [720 setting in WMM] and i recorded it already sped up with camstudio.

  • Woaah i really love the way you color the hair. :D

  • Thank you so much! This helped me a lot!! *w*

  • you type really fast.. lol

  • When you did the line art, what tool did you use? Is it the pen tool or the brush? How much do you set the stabilizer when you're doing the line art ?

  • @ReverieRein i used the airbrush, and i vary the settings on the stabilizer when i make lines...depending on what im lining. if you want more deets, lemem know ;)

  • @XiranSama Okay, then. Iwant to know settings of the airbrush you use in lineart and the details about how much you set up your stabilizer... ^^ btw, thanks for answering my question :D

  • @XiranSama Okay, then. I also want to know the settings of the airbrush you use for the lineart and the details on how you set up the stabilizer depending on what part of the drawing you're lining... ^^ btw, thanks for answering my previous questions :D

  • @ReverieRein size: 0.7-1.4 [0.5 for hair, 0.7 for clothes/skin, 1-1.4 for clothes]

    density: 95-100; 70 for hair

stabilizer: 4 for short strokes [such as hair and clothes folds] s-5 for long, continuous strokes.

    anything else?

  • @XiranSama Ah, I see. Nah, it's already fine. Thanks for everything! :) Also, your tutorial helped a lot, especially about that part wherein we should have a closed lineart so that when we use the magic wand, the color(s) won't bleed. ^^

  • Before anyone else asks, WHERE THE BRUSHES COME FROM, I'd like to say that i googled sai brushes and downloaded them. I no longer have the download link, so PLEASE, stop asking and try to google it yourself. thanks~

  • o3o where did u get all of the brushes from?

  • oops sorry.. it's in 1:05

I wonder how you you do your background green without even using opacity and does not cover the line art.

when i tried to do the background and i colored my lineart pink background it covered the whole thing and the line art too.

How do you to yours? tell me how you layered it correctly?

  • @K3shalicious uhm, okay. at 1:05, i'm talking, sooo... here's just how i order things

    -shinies/lights [brush]

-lineart [modified tool of my own]

-colors [use paint brush & paint tool]

-base [green color bg] [use paint bucket]

...if you have further questions, PM me.

  • @K3shalicious Thank you! Thank you! Thank you so much!

  • I have a problem...I'm using a mouse as my tool of coloring. I do not have tablet anyway but when I tried to color a lineart, it happened when I started coloring the background (i used layers), it happened that the brush/pen just color everything in its way. I've been figuring how people such as you colored it but still maintains the transparency of the lineart like in 0:56

    CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE?

  • @K3shalicious So your problem is that it fills the entire image at once? try changing the maximum size to something smaller. if that's not it, then please be more descriptive... your question is a bit confusing.

  • Lol, 8,888 views

This tutorial was really helpful thanks a lot ;D

  • @XiranSama i know this videos old. but do you have a download for the brushes that you have because i dont have marker blend D:

  • @randomnnn123 sorry; i dont...but i do know that google...did help XD

  • @XiranSama LOL ok, thanks anyways :)

  • Comment removed

  • Subbed, Watched and added on TM o3o Thanks for the tutorial!!

  • OMFG!!! you are pure wisdom xD

  • Erm...How are you supposed to do this tutorial if you don't have the brushes?

  • did u do that all in one layer or did u use mult?

  • @sgteengirl wait, what?

didn't you see all the layers i made?

    what do you mean? /confused

  • umm can someone help me please? i want to color in a picture from google, but idk how to... i mean, if i just color over top, it eventually covers up the lines beneath, even if i make it really transparent. also, i dont wanna have to erase every single white space of the drawing.... will someone please tell me how to colour in a picture you didnt draw?

  • @luverofpokemon mkay. name the image from google "lineart". set it to multiply. you can color underneath the lineart layer, so just have smth like this:

    -lineart

    -color[a]

    -color[b]

    -color[c]

feel free to PM me if you still dont get, kay? :3

  • @XiranSama omg! thank you sooo much!! i would have never figured that out! thank you thank you thank you!! >W<

  • @luverofpokemon

    /smile

just make sure you give credit to the original artist!~

  • what program is that

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!.......

  • First offf... Why's there a bar code on her chin?

Second off.. Do you really type fast or did you just type fast enough to be fast and slow enough to read and then sped it up?

  • @pupeesrtbst lmaoo

-it's just part of her design :3 i have a thing for putting bar codes EVERYWHERE. XD

-uhm. tough question. i type somewhat fast, i guess. but the whole vid is sped up too, so i had to pause so that you could read it anyway. XD heres an idea of how fast i can type: on fb, there's an app that times how fast u can type the entire alphabet w/o mistakes. my record time was 2.23 seconds. =]

  • hahah u made me IoI xD n thx it's reaIy heIpfuI ^_^

  • I Realy Like your Way Of Coloring.... :P(nice video btw too)

  • ...eh? I don't mean to bother you, but how do i get the layers so that i can color over one another/under one another? I just got sai today and i'm very confused. e.e

  • @augustflower1 technically, it's the layer order. if you have layer A at the bottom, B on top of A, C on top of B, ect ect. [from bottom = A, B, C] and you have pink on A, blue on B, & nothing on C, you'll get a weird shade of purple. make sure that the layers are selected. if you need halp, PM me and ill show u via LS.

  • @XiranSama So, You have to have your lineart on the bottom then?

  • @augustflower1 noooo.

lines are on the top so i can see them.

want me to show u via LS? [pm me]

  • This was a lifesaver! Thank you so much for teaching me! I learned so much. :) Now my drawings won't look as strange... lol. Thanks again!

  • how do u make the select so perfect? e.e i always mame it out of its shape

  • @OMGcoke11 like i said in the vid. make sure that your lineart is completely closed before selecting. and in the same set. the set has to be closed & "selected/ highlighted" make sure that the selecting option is the first one. and then u can select it.

let me know via PM if u want a demo.

  • It dosent help at all when u speed like that

  • VOCALOIDDD XD

  • To the people that want to know about my tools:

    GOOGLE! SEARCH IT!

I don't save websites like this for the hell of it, alright? My computer is already cluttered enough with drawings... =_=

  • @XiranSama Hello dear sorry taking so long to reply, i got job so i work all day till very late, barely can sleep (3 or 4 hours a day) just free on weekends but lately pc was all noisy i had to format it a few times, its fine now, thanks a lot im doing like u do now bout the paintings but i now am having a trouble with painting, i can do the face tricks u did yes all i can do r drawing but i cant do a drawing that iskinda brushed, different, only showing u, so whats r deviantart acc, id love it!

  • @XiranSama This is really bad, did it happen to u? i formated my pc yesterday, im with same win 7 64 bits as usual but my sai wont do that pressure function (the harder u press the thicker the line) and I NEED THAT omg real bad, my photoshop didnt do that now it does (it was CS4 now it is CS5) but i tested on laptop same sai i have does it (i had it on laptop first for ages, even on my desk it used to work properly). Any clues? im unable to draw for now and i prefer sai over photoshop real bad!

  • @XiranSama well i think ur busy but i sorted it out, updating my wacom drivers and closing photoshop. ^^

  • Could you please tell me how yot all the tools like that o_o Thx!!!

  • @Justin99999999999990

    uhm. google. really.

    i made ...4 i think myself. :\

  • @XiranSama Umm okkkkk.... google that narrows it down a lot?

  • @Justin99999999999990

    /sigh

sorry, but i dont have the website in my bookmarks oAo

  • @XiranSama :p thats ok

  • AMAZING thank u very much but i know ill replay it but i might not know still... how do i colour so it wont spread off its lines omg...its so difficult for me i can draw something in 10mins but paint.. would take T_T 24hours .. horrible how do u paint and the basic lines wont get all mixed fucked up ;-;

  • @jojosjuaninha you select the area that you want to color in using the select tool, wand tool, and/or lasso tool... and you color in there w/o deselecting. XD

  • @XiranSama Thanks a lot :3 i checked r answer few hours after but i wanted to test it in the drawing, been so busy lately T_T once im done ill post the link for u to see and tell me what u think, its gonna be my first official collored drawingXD

    Thank you ;) !

  • @XiranSama Xiran do u have deviantart channel? i have one, lets share ill post my new art im doing because of u! XD ur very good at drawing and btw mind giving the name of this very pretty music track ure using please? :3

  • @jojosjuaninha yes. see description.

    songs:

-asue no brilliant road [idk the artist; forgot lol]

    -sunlight [natalie imbruglia]

  • thankyou for the quick reply

  • it was amazing first of all,i know you have mentioned that you are lazy and all but please can you tell me about the sets and the clipping,i mean how they work and what are their effect??

  • @subarustarz -eyetwitch-

sets are just folders which u can keep your layers in. makes it easier to find them....meaning that u dont have to scroll shitloads.

clipping groups ...are kinda... eh. leik if u have a layer and u make a dot on it, then, make a clipping group layer on top & color there, then... if u color on the clipping group, you will not color outside that circle. i hope it makes sense XD

  • @itsme101294 did u read the description?

  • @XiranSama Lol. I love your harsh humour! :D

Great Tutorial; I too shall follow your lead. ~subscribes~

  • @YAIZMATASAN yes. you should. you.... you....

    strawberry poptart!

    /wtf

lol wat did u reply to? [cuz u said @Xiransama]

  • @XiranSama

    >itsme 101294: did u use the mouse?

    > you: did u read the description?

That is what I was commenting on. (and just in case...I am commenting on you asking what I commented on Lol) any ways. again; Great tutorial.

  • @YAIZMATASAN o lol that XD

    thanks =]

  • @XiranSama np. (before u ditch your computer) one question; how does the graphic tablet actually make the difference from using a mouse? especially when it comes to line art.

  • @YAIZMATASAN lol.

i don't ditch my computer. like, at all. when im home XDD

uh. big. with capital letters. uhmmm. well, this lineart, in my opinion sucks. cuz. i kinda got better at drawing it. [if u want ill broadcast right now, cuz im drawing. right now. pm me if u do] uh. yeah. it really makes a big difference....but that depends on the tablet & program. SAI is really good for making lines, so... yep. =]

  • @YAIZMATASAN i have a wacom intuos 4 large, its really a big diff but first thing that IS REALLY helpful that i noticed right away was that the harder u push the pencil against the surface of the tablet, the thicker the line goes or the darker the collor, that is indeed very helpful but u must controll well r hand but not that hard anyway, if u love drawing, get one, its amazing, i love it im always drawing too but im not as pro as Xiran ofc but i do it for fun and i love it :)

  • @jojosjuaninha thnx! I'll look into it :D Its a pressure sensible Tablet. I hear the best vary to 1020 pressure levels...or something. any ways, thnx.

  • :D love it

  • This is awesome! But, If I may ask, could you tell me how you grouped your layers right at the start? I see you have 2 sets, but in which set is the lineart, and which layers are in the other set? I´m sorry if this is a stupid question, but I´m such a newb with SAI... thanks~

  • @chocbreeze12 @chocbreeze12 [Extreme] -hair lights -hair highlights -eye lights -hair strands [Lineart] -lineart [one layer b/c i deleted it earlier [Colors] -skin -eyes --hair highlights1 --hair lights --hair shades 2 --hair shades -[hair] [bracketed = set, hair is a set in the set.] i hope that this is what u asked for lol... >^<
  • @XiranSama ohgod, thanks sooo much! This was exactly what I needed...

    Really, thanks!!~ oUo

  • DX how do you get all those brushes? lol

  • @DarkIke100 i got some of them from google & some of them i created lol.

    /doesn't have the link ><

  • how do you color it if its a .bmp? it just takes it as one whole image idk how to make the white transparent

  • this could help if i new how to use the layers...

  • Thanks so much!

I love the drawing and the music very much. :3

You're skills on coloring hair are just outstanding! I wish I could do that *.* the hair I draw doesn't look real at all. xD

    Maybe b/c I'm too lazy ._.

I just don't get how you make those shines (like the blue shine in the hair?) it's really cool. *w*

  • @Arxaiht about the shines; what doesn't make sense? XD

leik, what part? [time frames plz] and yeah.. imma try to explain taht if i can XD

    thanks for the compliments <3

  • @XiranSama Ehm like 8:12 - 8:27 . The blue shine on the white shine on the hair. *omg I suck at explaining -shot-

Is that because of the luminosity or something? Or so you use a certain brush or whatever..

    You're welcome. <3 you're really talented!

  • OMG!!!!!!! FINALLY! thank you so much for doing this tutorial *O*

    it was really helpful 0_0

TT_TT now I will put this in practice :DD

  • heyy.. i was just wondering how you got all of those brushes? i have sai too... so i was just wondering if it was like an expansion or something.. lol

  • @OMGEDproductions

i got them from deviantart. you can make your own/download them.

i dont have the link on me cuz i did this a while ago.

[so... no its not an expansion.]

  • wow thanks so much! Finally a tutorial that actually tells you HOW.

    Great job, and thanks :D

  • Thanks a ton, this helped me out a lot ^^

  • Great Coloring. I am really liking the highlights ;D Hehe...

  • this is on sai,Where did u download the extra tools????and how?

  • It's good, but I think you should round the face more, the chin and cheeks appear to bony/triangular.

  • Everything is in the description and title just as XiranSama said, THIS IS SO GREAT AND AWESOME wish i had SAI but I got GIMP, are you an artist?

  • @InuKakasha234 description* /grammar nazi

lol. i just got sai last year... /shotshot until then i worked with gimp. and it IS a good program. have patience w/ it and trust me. you will get good @ it <3

    -xi

  • @XiranSama Okay thnxs XDXDXD I put all my trust in yu ;3

  • Everything is in the description and title just as XiranSama said, THIS IS SO GREAT AND AWESOME wish i had SAI but I got GIMP, are you an artist?

  • im ThisisAssshhhh on DA i love your drawings there awesome!

  • holy FUCK you draw good!!!

  • great tut, thanks

texts disappear too fast though :P

usefull advice on those hair spec thing

  • I wish i was as good at drawing as you and coloring!

  • how did you get so many tools?

  • Can i ask about a gimp thing?

After coloring the skin parts, how do you keep the shade from going outside the skin area? (This is on gimp, not SAI)

  • @MDVancil

well, it depends if u wanna do it on a separate layer [i do that]

after selecting & filling in the area that you want to color in, make a new layer, choose the multiply option, and color. if you wish to do it on one layer, just click "lock" on the layers... settings... thing. yeah

sorry 4 the late reply.. =w=

  • are you doing this on a tablet?

  • @MrNana5051 are you reading teh descriptionz?

[did u read the description? its there for a reason....]

  • @XiranSama Oops...thanks acually Im too lazy for that T_T lol
