Thanks for the video... are these NMS for lips standard taught in ASL class? I only mention it because I'm in PR where there is NO state school for the Deaf. The Deaf learn ASL but maybe not deep grammar, etc..
This is very true! I've always looked at lips when chatting no matter deaf or hearing because it enables me to know which words the speaker uses. Also, it helps enchance my vocabuylary skills. No one had ever told me to practice the method, but I just come with it nautral as if it is instinct. Mr. Bridges knows what he is talking about. I support the philosophy of relying on lips.
This is one of the most helpful videos for understanding the importance of facial expression in ASL and understanding the complexity and precision of the language as well. Literally EYE OPENING and MIND OPENING too. Thanks for making this video, it's so helpful.
As an ASL interpreter, I agree that we must choose appropriate synonyms rather than simply voicing the glosses for signs. The words we choose depend on the context and, of course, the non-manual markers. I think your point was that we should be aware that ASL has "synonyms" of varying intensities, and we should choose our English words accordingly-- not that we must always use _those_ English words with _those_ non-manual markers. Am I right?
This is great! I hope you share more like this in the future. I'm an interpreting student and find your vlogs very helpful and informative. Thanks so much for sharing!
