Not sure I see what you're doing here - difficult from this angle of course.. Seems like you don't do much other than filter and volume on the 3X? Is it possible to trigger clips like the APC, or are you just twiddling filter and volumes now and again?
very good creation, I bought one but not able to throw to walk eh, I have the ableton but have not yet eh, you could guide me or tell me where I can find a detailed explanation * thanks
nice...too bad my bitstream 3x is not working everytime i try midi mapping on ableton for some reason it freezes idk if its because I just recently moved from pc to mac...
hey, cool vid! atm i use traktor with a controller. i wonna switch over to ableton live and bitstream 3x. last week i bought the bitstream 3x. as i see you can perfectly mix with live :) a question before i connect this thing mysellf. in the vid why you tab on your keyboard so much ? also, how can you give one track like a little push if its not completely in the groove? like you would do on a normal dj program. do you have tips before first connecting this awesome machine to my pc? cheers
About a year old this vid and things have moved on a bit in the sense that I have set up 6 keys to start and stop my three audio channels and also I have now learnt how to mix from CD to Ableton and back again. Ableton is a sequencing package, not a DJ package. It can be used to DJ. All the tracks are timed in advance. The launch time is dependent on how you mix. No need to nudge. Need to sort out the system layout on the screen before setting up the bitstream such as phazing, eq, beat repeat...
thanks, allready cracked it up. I find those functions just useless since everything is waay easyer in live. now i have an aye on akai apc but will keep bs3x hangin on my rack in case i'll need more sliders...:D cheers!
Had to translate your response. Thanks you for your comments. I don't have a tutorial for the Bitstream but the process by which sliders and knobs is assigned is defined in the Ableton manual and also other videos for other controllers on You Tube. How the controller is laid out is your choice.
Sweet. Thinking of picking up the Bitstream 3x. Can you assign the X-Y joystick to move/scroll around clips in Ableton? If so ... how would you assign it?
The X-Y stick I use for controlling the way some of the plugins work where X and Y co ordinates shape the filter on the fly. I can't see it working for tracks selection as its too sensitive. I guess I'm also a bit lazy...mouse drag and drop works for me.
I guess, I have a Novation ReMote SL25, I was guessing that I could assign the x-y pad as a mouse pad, but that didn't work.
Could you try and figure out how to link the x-y joystick to 'track selection'? It'd be a huge help. If the bitstream can't do that, might as well go for a UC33e until it breaks or something.
Thanks...new video on the way which will be a mixture of LIVE, screen shots and whatever else I can find. Just waiting for the LIVE video from my friend. Will be a new mix as well
First congrats on your mix. I am thiking of buying this device, I was actually wondering how it would work with my kaoss pad 3...Nice bunch of samples you got there? cut and made them yourself???
this works great with ableton. i use the kp3 pad midi control as my crossfader and fader with ableton on my podcasts. works very well. i would recommend purchasing a good midi controller though, as you won't be able to adjust two faders at once on the touchpad
hi im angie and im in serious need of help, i bought the bitstream 3x and i have no clue where to start seting it up to use with my music software (cubase) could you please help me? you have an awesome mix by the way.
Using Ableton 7 plus an overlay for effects that I have modified from a friend of mine. Then I just assigned the channels etc to the Bitstream in the normal way.
Nice mix. I have a tip for you if you dont know it allready. If you Right click your clips you can push Edit Info Text for all your tunes. Listen thru them and type example:
9 - Hat Cue
28 - Conga Cue
33 - Bass Cue
And so on.
Then you can mouse over your clips afterwords and just find the right cue on the fly.
This gives you more time to play with the controlls and less with your mouse. :)
Thanks for the info. I have set up some keyboard launch buttons which I do use when playing LIVE but I have sometimes found that there is a delay between hitting the keyboard and the launch being accurate which is less of an issue with a mouse.
Just been on the phone to a new producer in London. watch this space as we move to a new dimension in performing....deep house all the way....can't wait!!
I think it might be possible to trigger samples as there is a row of buttons to the right of the main fader bank. I have set up midi control for trigger on the keyboard of my macbook pro but in the studio, i'm just lazy and use the mouse...lol
Very very nice! What about doing a video recording the screen while you are dj'ing with the bitstream (download camtasia to grab the screen recording)? It would be nice to see your dj'ing stile with Live! Thanks
Ive been looking for a decent midi controller to use with ableton to DJ live but cant seem to find any that fit what im looking for. I just found the bitstream online today and it looks better than the uc33 but still, how user friendly is it? it doesnt look simply plug and play... and also what is your "setup" as you mentioned in your last post..
There is no such thing as a plug and play midi in the sence that ableton has to be setup to enable the midi interface to interact with ableton. However, on a mac, plug the device in on a USB lead, hit preferences to enable it, hit the midi button top left and start assigning. I was give a DJ layout for Ableton that I have modified and added to for my use. It is the best midi controller out of the three that I have owned by a long way other than going mad and buying an A&H 3D or a Maven.
Yes it would. The UC-33 was not flexible enough for me and my setup. Some reviews talk about the joystick being useless, I found it useful in changing the way flangers and echos work. Glad you like the tuneage.
great track dude :)

Man is it possible to use live & traktor at the same time?
bto1986 2 years ago
I have no idea. Never used Traktor.
Househedz 2 years ago
yes, usually u have to open traktor first or ableton freezes and shits itself. U could use the rewire function aswell
jonnybegoodnow 2 years ago
do you use automation part, I mean to control LFO for egzample in Life's Operator or it is only useful for harware?
I struggle to control my jomox mbase with bs3x, guess i need to sleep with users manual under my pillow;D

No I don't. Use the controller for everything except track selection.

I don't like cross faders and so I don't use them. Being a house DJ, don't need it.

is the Bitstream compatible with pro tools?
Gbliz90 3 years ago
its just a midi controller so should work with pro tools. I have Logic and Ableton and works fine
PQKids 3 years ago
aight cool...but i mean as far as daw goes would it work? u know with the hui emulation and everything...
Gbliz90 3 years ago
So the Bitstream does work well with Logic? I bought a Korg NanoKontrol and was really disappointed with its performance with Logic :-(
How have you found it?
