Reining is getting ugly. Didn't used to like the gaping mouthed head high style of many years past, but this head in the ground hyperflexed neck is just as ugly. It's even more ugly when seeing some of the training methods used to get the horses to tuck their heads that way to run on that slack rein.
@LisaDeckerGriffith Schmersal is a monster. the man "trains" by fear, yanking on the horses' mouth, and spuring. its horrible. many people have sent in complaints about him to AQHA including myself.
@highPointGoal Well miss High Point Goal(which a goal is all it ever will be), you dont know anything about the horse industry. And you definatly dont know much about training a horse. A horse is corrected for not doing what it is suppose to. It knows what to do, and just like young children, they are corrected for doing wrong. If you dont correct the problem immediatly it will soon accumulate to something bad. And if you dont think all the big time trainers correct there horses, your an idiot.
@highPointGoal Your an idiot if you think all the big timers dont train like this, or are "horrible" like clueless people like your self think. It isnt harse or abusive. Its correcting a mistake so it doesnt get bad. The horses know what to do but will never stop trying to get away with it
@43beeler i know big time trainers dont train like that. i been/rode in clinics from international riders and they never come close to that abusive behavior. i'm super glad my horse is not in your hands...
@highPointGoal Oh you think you know haha, until you watch them school when no ones around. Unless you're a natural horsemanship-I'll-fling-a-carrot-stick-around person. You just said you rode in clinics with te big timers, we'll of course they're not going to pull out their tricks in front of people who don't know the purpose of such tricks.
@RidinRopinCowgirl by 3rd level dressage and prix st. george (my friend) i can sure as heck garantee i have not seen any "big time" trainer ride like that. riding shouldn't change regardless if someone is watching or not. so if craig posts these horrible videos online, he sure as hell rides that way all the time. continue being brainwashed, but its this kind of riding that gives western riders a horrible reputation.

@highPointGoal It shouldn't but it does which is my point. So until you've worked with the top behind the scenes, not much can be said. BTW Craig does not post videos, others do. He posts sale horse videos on his own channel, but none of showing. All reiners and cowhorse people know how we school, we know the mechanics of what is being done. I hope he does sue epona for libel. Craig is not the only trainer who gets bashed on to the associations MANY do both small and big.

I would let Craig schmersal train my horse any day of the week over some BS "English" training.
