i honestly don't think Clapton is smirking at Jimmie ever, he's just smiling or laughing like the rest of us from enjoying how funky and trippy and deep and surprising Jimmie's playing is. Clapton did use Jimmie's band as the house band for the 2006 Crossroads Festival as I recall too. I agree Jimmie is underrated, though, and really dig him in this 'message' song setting. hope he does more of this.
