@arcturus33333: If "Taxes are the price of admission to a civilized society.", as you stated, then how do we account for America's prosperity BEFORE the establishment of an income tax? Are you a government employee? Government employees depend upon taxes for their survival, so they're always in favor of taxation.
Taxes, taxes, taxes.....nobody wants to pay 'em. Guess we'll just quit taking up taxes, and we'll all go live in the meadow and watch the birds.
Some folks need to study taxes a bit. This country has always had them, as most countries do. When we take care of our citizens, it cost "taxes". That's life.
The wealthy have it better now than they have for years. The rest of us are carrying their load. We like it. We want our wealthy to be weathier.
@HulksHeroes: If you're so pro-taxation, you're apparently a government employee. We never had an income tax in America until the 2nd World War (Victory Tax). Prior to that we had the most flourishing middle class in the world. Today, that middle class is evaporating rapidly.
"..Prior to that we had the most flourishing middle class in the world". What utter nonsense.
You really need to just get some facts.
I really hate to debate with such nonsense statements. You can find some reliable facts in Thom Hartmann's book: "Screwed: The Undeclared War on the Middle Class ". His facts can be checked, and they pretty much tell the story that you don't know a thing about.
Are you kidding? Right before the second world war we were in the midst of the worst financial crisis in American history! The 30s were famous for the Great Depression. The forties and fifties were a fantastic time for the middle class.
@Scardy: And just WHOM created the Great Depression? It was the Federal Reserve System, and it was done intentionally. 1) Create a crisis; 2) Propose drastic reforms for a remedy. 3) Lobby your paid-for-lackeys in Congress to pass it, or else! The only hiring performed over the past 30 years have been in government jobs. The PRIVATE SECTOR funds these government jobs, but they've all been off-shored. This is why state governments are broke, and the national gov is running on borrowed time.
We got the income tax in 1913, before WW2. Prior to the income tax our country was funded by excise taxes on things like alcohol and tobacco and by import tariffs. Go pick up a historty book.
@trajan74 : The income tax was installed in 1914 PRIOR to WW One. The 16th Amendment was "passed" in December 1913. Notice how the international bankers forced America's hand in becoming involved in WW1. WW2 was just a continuation of WW1. In fact, the Treaty of Versailles guaranteed a WW2. We don't need government. Government doesn't produce wealth, or prosperity for the citizens.
Did you ever eat bad meat, were you forced as a minor to work in a mine, ever get a water-borne illness, did your father ever lose a body part in an unsafe factory. The govt. come up with the idea for the transcontinental railroad, the interstate highway system, and the Panama Canal increasing the flow of goods across boundaries. I'd say they do a good job at facilitating commerce.
And i'll add, the private sector would never have built any of these systems. The couriers charged by the mile and if they're making good money already why invest millions in a system that could cut into profits by speeding up delivery.
@trajan74 : Do you think I don't know a bad cut of meat when I see it? Do you believe government is our savior? The Transcontinental RR was then, this is now. There are more corrupt people in government today. I can care for myself just fine at a fraction of the costs government employees demand. There are more people employed in government than the private sector. DO THE MATH. is there any wonder why we're flat broke, and in insurmountable debt?
@lhooq21: Yes, but corporations simply pass their taxes onto the consumers by increasing the costs of their products, or services. In the end, the consumers are stuck with an additional tax.
returning to his progressive roots.........when did he ever leave them...............i do not know if he is a mutt or a shepherd.....but i do believe he is a dog......he is no better than bushie boy.....bought and paid for by the corporations.........
Fox viewership is about 1.4 million a day...
Union membership...15.3 million in 2010.
So...how can Fox claim to represent America more than the unions?
By this criteria the number one representative of America is teenagers on the internet posting pictures of donkey dongs.
The mainstream media takes for granted how much it represents the populace. The internet trumps Fox, CNN, MSNBC...all of the corporate media outlets.

Of course they cut him off once he mentions George Bush cutting taxes for the top percentile.

How about no one getting a sweetheart deal? How about no one being forced to include health benefits into income? How about no taxes at all?
