You make it look easy, sure, but a REAL rope dart has a thinner rope, it doesn't split into 2 parts at the bottom, and It's a "Metal Dart" not a huge ball! A real rope dart is much harder to do because it wraps around your foot a whole lot easier!!!

I don't think that he was doing it show how good he was. I think he was just trying to help people like me learn how to do it properly.

I have seen people use a wide rope and ball on the end for practice. Kinda like how people who are learning nunchucks start off with rubber or foam.

I think he did a good job showing how to do this. It's pretty cool, and I hope that he keeps making more videos.

As with anything of this sort, the medium itself doesn't matter, weight, material, and length make little difference in comparison to the importance of the correcting your flow of momentum. If the chain is longer, choke up a bit.. if you learned it with a ribbon attached to a soccer ball it wouldn't matter, because you've learned how to catch and return it, the only thing standing in your way would be picking up a real one and doing it a few times for the feel

it really isn't very difficult to do it that fast or faster, just practice consistently

aiming is just getting the angle of the flick right, getting the right tension in the rope at the right moment is the bit that takes practise.
